Award Season Blues

It’s officially award season, which always kinda just sneaks in on me because… uh its also NFL Playoffs!  Which will always rank higher in my book, and, let’s be honest, getting the recaps the day after is just as good as watching the actual award shows filled with a million commercial breaks.  However, the Golden Globes from last night had me feeling blue for missing it, mainly because of all the amazing blue fashion!

Blue is my favorite color, which is probably why they were my fav looks from the evening.  GaGa looked so old Hollywood in her periwinkle.  Camilla Belle was a personal favorite and just loving the more teal hues on Amy Adams and Gemma Chan.  Let’s not leave out the beauty!  Camilla’s green eye, Gemma’s red lip, Lady GaGa’s hair and Lupita’s cobalt blue mascara!  I mean even those Fiji girls looked stunning in blue!

The Globes also had me dreaming of things all a little more glam.  I’ve been pretty comfy cozy casual lately with being a homebody over Christmas vacation and during these winter storms.  Avon has this glam jewelry collection launching Tuesday Jan 8th which I just kinda glanced over.  Now I’m kinda mega digging that blue set and maybe some glam earrings to work into my winter sweaters outfit.  How fun would these be if you do an Oscar’s viewing party!?  Plus they all launch at buy one get one 50% off… NEED.  I saw those Cluster Earrings on Heather, totally convinced me I need them.

Mani Monday Inspo: Golden Globes Edition

I actually caught the Golden Globes last night and not just the red carpet recap the next day. It was super entertaining with Jimmy Falon hosting and of course even more entertaining with all the fun fashion! Such a glam evening is transferring to my not-so-glam Monday by inspiring my mani.  It’s time to take off my NYE jam’s (see here) but what to replace it with?

Mani Monday: Essie Shall We Chalet

Mani Monday: Essie Shall We Chalet

My first mani of 2016… fully 2016 since this guy I technically did 12/31/2015.  Because I’m not good at moving on from Christmas I was still feeling red but I wanted something simple and shiny and clean for the new year.  Enter in Essie Shall We Chalet.  The prettiest slightly deep red, with a perfect creme finish with shine.  Shall We Chalet is from the Essie Winter Collection Apres Chic and because I’m on this Apres Ski trend (see here) I think it fits perfectly for my mood lately and my favorite outfit on heavy rotation as of late (see here).

After last night’s glam at the Golden Globes and my glam red nails I decided I needed to glam it up today for a regular girl Monday with a red lip and sparkle!  (mark. Lip Click in Siren and old mark. necklace).  In addition here are my fav glam moments from the Golden Globes:

Award season is in full swing!  I can’t say I watch all the nominated movies but I do catch a good handful of them.  One of those movies that seems to be nominated for everything this year is American Hustle, since I saw this last week I decided to do a review, Alicia style!  Plus Amy Adams is definitely one of my best dressed picks from the Golden Globes, staying slightly in character with her deep v and sleek gown.

American Hustle Plot Overview:

Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Adams star in director David O. Russell’s fictional period crime drama about a reckless FBI agent who recruits a con man and his alluring partner into a scheme to ensnare corrupt politicians and gangsters. Smooth-talking Irving Rosenfeld (Bale) is a hustler of the highest order. No mark is off limits for Rosenfeld, especially when his crafty partner Sydney Prosser (Adams) is by his side. When renegade FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Cooper) thrusts the deceptive duo into the treacherous world of New Jersey power players and underworld heavies, the thrill of the hunt grows too strong to resist. Meanwhile, New Jersey politician Carmine Polito (Jeremy Renner) gets caught in the middle, and Rosenfeld’s capricious wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) holds more power than anyone could imagine. Word On American Hustle:

This movie was different.  That’s the best way to explain it.   It’s not your typical drama, comedy, romcom, thriller, etc… but not different in a bad way, but a good way!  I definitely give it 2 thumbs up.  It had me paying attention to the story line.  Which typically would be difficult since it’s not that fast paced really.  I was expecting some twists or a big action scene but no, it was all about the story line and relationships between the characters, that was all it needed with those acting skills.  It wasn’t as funny as the commercials or nominations in the comedy category would suggest, but it has its chuckles.  I did notice the 2hr and 9min runtime though… it felt that long fo sho.  I think what had me hooked was the character development, you really felt for each character and wanted them to succeed.  Plus Christian Bale was almost unrecognizable to me at first!  I had to ask if that was him, haha!

Through the whole movie I think I was just as enamored with the costume design as I was with the movie.  Here I thought I didn’t like 70’s fashion but I literally was wishing I had Amy Adam’s (Sydney’s) wardrobe.  And some of it I kind of do… the pants, the wrap dresses, the sleek gowns, the coats!  I basically have the black coat with mega fur worn by Jennifer Lawrence’s character Rosalyn.

Not only was the fashion spot on, the hair!  If only I could get such bouncy soft flowing curls.  Ok, ok not all the hair.  I could do without the perms.  “Hey gang, now what would make this great day even better? Perms for everyone!”  (Burgundy reference for those of you not as cool as you think you are)

Word Of Alicia:  Go see this movie, don’t expect a lot of action or twists and be prepared to sit for over 2 hrs.  Then gawk at how pretty everyone is, then follow it up with wearing a wrap dress, big earrings, a trench coat and bouncy full curls.  Maybe I’ll just do that too!
