Week O'Nautical: Stars and Stripes

Week O’Nautical: Stars and Stripes

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July… on a Wednesday… For the lucky ones off today, yay! For the unlucky ones working today, boo! But even for a Wednesday I had a festive BBQ, fireworks, and wore my stars and stripes!

For my 4th fit I updated my ‘merica shorts with this year’s version from Target.  Have to have stripes with those stars, so add in this one shoulder bodysuit from mark.

Week O’Nautical – Fleet Week Chic

Fleet Week Chic

Fleet Week Chic

It’s Fleet Week in NYC.  Fleet Week is the military tradition when the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard’s active ships from overseas come into port.  The crews are welcome to tour the city and sites.  Even the public gets a tour of the ships, military demonstrations and or air shows.  Starting in 1935, this military tradition happens all over the country in our port cities all through out the year.  You might recognize this famous pic from Fleet Week.

Even though I’m completely on the other side of the country, and I’ve never been to Fleet Week that doesn’t mean I can’t take some of those nautical elements from those Navy men and work it into today’s Week O’Nautical Look.

It all starts with the mark. The White Approach Belt ($18).  Nautical in nature, this wide belt was the perfect detail over my white pencil skirt (Charlotte Russe) and red flutter sleeve top (The Limited).  A little retro/pinup-esq with the cinched waist, fitted pencil skirt, t-strap pumps and red and white look!

After yesterday’s look I couldn’t not wear this mark. Sail Away Duo necklace again.  It’s so fitting for a Fleet Week chic look with its cute little sail boat!  Pile on some chain links in my watch and bracelet and some gold hoops (all by mark.) and I’m set!

I may be lacking some blue in my look but the red and white are definitely fitting for a patriotic approach for my Week O’Nautical.  Will you be rocking the red white and blue this weekend?  If so take it nautical with your accessories!

T.G.I.F. and the start of the long weekend!  I may not be celebrating Memorial Day weekend with Fleet Week, but I definitely want to thank all our armed service men and women for a job I could never do!  We’re the home of the free because of the brave so thank a vet or service man/woman this weekend!  Hat’s off to you… a nautical sailor’s hat perhaps!
