Bon Fat Tuesday! Mardi Gras Inspo On A Regular Tuesday

Fat Tuesday has always held a special place in my heart, from French class, to nights out, to beads, to crepes or jambalaya I’ve always celebrated this sinful holiday!  Here’s a little inspiration for the day

Word On What To Wear:  Purple, yellow and green!  The Mardi Gras official colors!  Since I’m working like the rest of us on a typical Tuesday I’ll be pairing my green Express Portofino blouse with some black pants and fun accessories, like my satin printed Nolita pumps (Prabal Gurng for Target, last seen here), yellow skinny belt (Express, old) and of course some purple beads with matching ring and bracelet (mark.)!  Finishing it off with a purple and gold makeup look and my headband fit for Mardi Gras!

Word On What To Do:  Make a New Orleans themed meal fit for a king!  May be a little hard to get down to Bourbon Street, but might as well eat like I’m there!  On the menu:  Jambalaya, Corn Bread, Green Salad and King Cake.  And maybe start the night with a hurricane?

For a good Jambalaya recipe I like this one, but it’s one of those dishes you can work with what you have!  Chicken and sausage, shrimp and sausage, pork and sausage, whatever you like!  Because this is “going up, on a Tuesday” go with a simple salad with dark greens for a bit more of southern taste and as for the king cake, pick this one up at a bakery/grocery store for a Tuesday night treat!

Bon Fat Tuesday!

mark. Rocking Pastels Necklace goes a little edgy

One item I can’t get enough of this summer is the mark. Rocking Pastels Necklace.  You might remember Jackie from Living After Midnight and I styled this item soft for our Wear and Share Wednesday so this time I took it a little edgy.

I paired the Rocking Pastels Necklace ($40) with a LBD, some killer neon yellow ankle straps and jewelry with some serious angles to them!  Dress is Kenneth Cole, ankle strap sandals are Prabal Gurung for Target and the Great Angles Earrings and Rock Out Rock Ring are mark.  (in and out of my sale section on my eBoutique).

Serious Angles On These Pastel Pieces!

Serious Angles On These Pastel Pieces!

The killer angular shapes on these pieces really make the sweet pastel shades way more edgy!  Just what you need to keep them from looking too sweet!  Finish your look with super straight hair, bright lips and fun liner.  That bright California sun doesn’t really allow you to see the details to well but take my word for it… line your lids with a thick line in mint using the Color Me In Eye Crayon in Mint Candy then layer your black liquid liner over that using a thinner line so the mint shows above, use Get In Line Hookeup Eyeliner in Painted Black.  Follow with lots of mascara using Lash Act in blackest black.  For your face, contour with Bronze Pro and dab on Just Blushing in Afterglow on the apples of your cheeks.  Finish it all of with a bright lip color.  I layered 2 Make It Rich lip crayons, both Peony and Punch!  All the products used are available at my eBoutique.

A super easy look for hot summer nights!  Who would of thought pastels could go edgy?

Put Some Spring In Your Step – with pastels, gold and PG + T Nolita pumps!

Who else has spring fever!?!  I’m ready for all things spring… everything fresh, blooming flowers and most of all warmer weather.  I usually miss out on spring fashion because I jump from winter to summer and forget that window inbetween because I’m usually just cold or hot… or at least I dress like its hot then put on a winter sweater because its not.  This year however I’m NOT doing that!  Thanks to all the inspiration on Pinterest, wearing spring fashion is as easy as adding a few key pieces into your wardrobe.

Pastel Perfection

Pastel Perfection

First step… adding color!  All things pastels are hitting high notes this season so starting with this aqua color top pretty much sets the stage for a good spring fever outfit!  Since it is still a little chilly the long chiffon sleeves help keep off the chill but as temps warm up this would look equally as chic with shorts.  This one is from Buckle but you can find a pastel top with sheer detailing pretty much at any store these days.

Second step… finding a good pair of ankle pants.  They’re just enough of a break at the hem to say hello spring! but still keep you warm like pants do.  Since its “technically” still winter anchoring your pastels with black keeps the look of the season.  These Great Details Pants from mark. have been in and out of sale so check back at my eBoutique or direct message me.

Third Step… it’s all in the details!  Your accessories will take you further than you think.  Try switching to gold, rose gold, brass to warm things up.  I’ve been OBSESSED with these new JUST LAUNCHED jewelry pieces from mark.  The Styles and Stones Bracelet ($24) is such a lady like piece with fresh blush colored faux pearls and clear stones making it my spring must have pick!  Pair it with the In A Flash Ring ($16) and you got yourself some serious charm going on.  Also from mark. the Moonlighting Necklace ($18 – worn extended) is a more dainty piece to pair with the larger pieces.  Shop all the new arrivals at my eBoutique:  http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com

Prabal Gurung for Target Nolita Pump

Prabal Gurung for Target Nolita Pump

Final step… a super fun patterned shoe!  When I saw these Parbal Gurung for Target Nolita pumps at the store I KNEW they were my spring patterned shoe of choice!  They have tons of colors in them, a pattern that will go with a lot and super comfy to boot!  There are a ton of killer options for a fun spring patterned shoe at Shoedazzle too and at great prices!

Since my spring fever has officially hit be prepared for a crap load of more spring inspired posts heading your way!  What have you done to put a little spring in your step?

Get The Look – Prabal Gurung for Target

I’m not going to lie, I’m a sucker for Target’s designer collaborations.  What I really think suckers me in is the hunt!  These capsule collections are limited edition with limited pieces, so once they sell they’re gone, and they sell quick!  Half the fun is seeing what pieces I can actually get my hands on to become part of my collection!  I love that I can get these designers for my champaign taste on a beer budget lifestyle.  The Prabal Gurung for Target Love collection did not disappoint.

Love seems to be a fitting name for this capsule collection because it was full of flowing dresses, ladylike styles and happy prints.  I tried on everything at my local Target that was my size and settled on this short sleeve dress in his “first date” print.  What I loved about this dress was the flattering fit, nipped at the waist and color blocked sides, the “acid” floral mirrored print, and the chiffon like material.  Since we are talking Target here, the cotton pieces seemed stiff and less luxe, this material seems more expensive (even though its not) and allows for richer colors, plus I think it will hold up better too!

Blowing in the wind with accessories

Because the print on this is so characteristic I didn’t need much in the line of accessories.  Just a bright bracelet and a floral ring from mark.  You can also see how light and airy the fabric is as it just blows so delicately in the wind.  This is one of those dresses its fun to twirl in 🙂  You can get the Great Shapes Bracelet ($24) and Things Look Rosy Ring ($18) at my eBoutique:  http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com

PG+T Look with a Lexi

Lexi LOVES my PG+T shoes!

In addition to the clothing offering, the collection also featured shoes, bags and jewelry.  I had to have some restraint, so I limited myself to these acid yellow sandals which compliment the dress so perfectly!  I was shocked to find a 5.5 so I knew I had to scoop them up and so glad I did!  These bright sandals are actually extremely versatile and will look good with everything casual to dress, shorts to skirts, neutrals to colors and so on and so on.  Lexi is totally digging my PG+T look, but she wishes they did some killer dog sweaters or at least a cool leash or something!  Next time Lexi, next time.

Julep Ginger and Laura with mark. Things Look Rosy Ring

Julep Ginger and Laura with mark. Things Look Rosy Ring

Just to put the icing on the cake I decided to do my mani to match!  I was inspired to use my Julep February Bombshell Maven Box to do the double accent nails in Laura and nude halo in Ginger on the other 3 fingers.  On Julep’s blog they did a Prabal Gurung for Target inspired nail art and it got me wanting to use my Julep Maven Box.  Since my outfit is a strong look I liked pairing a more neutral, but still fun, nail.  Check out the post by Julep and while you’re there sign up for your own maven box for only a penny using promo code JULEPVIP at http://www.julep.com/rewardsref/index/refer/id/29643/

Did you pick up any items from this designer collab go around?  Have you been a sucker in the past like me?  I wasn’t a huge fan of the Nieman Marcus collab over Christmas but this Prabal Gurung one made up for it!  My all time favorite was the Missoni collab, and seriously if I could still get my hands on one of those sweater skirts I would in a second!
