Word On Avon True Color Lip Glow Lip Gloss

Today’s Lip of the Week is lots of lips!  Avon has a new product release, its newest lip gloss, Lip Glow!  It comes in 21 shades, some similar to Avon’s most popular Glazewear shades, some shades completley brand new.  I picked out 5 shades to try and I’ve been wearing them non-stop.

Word of Alicia:  Overall I highly enjoy the formula.  It is moisturizing and not sticky, as promised.  It feels luxe and full not slimy or slippery.  You can really tell its a lip oil full of benefits.  As far as color options, I think there’s somethign for everyone for every occasion.  In the below pictures you can tell it was a windy day while taking these pics, my hair DID NOT STICK to my lip glow, that alone should be a reason to give it a go haha.

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Lit

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Lit

LIT:  The only creme (opaque) color in my collection.  Color payoff is really strong and leaves behind a nice lip stain as it wears off.  If you are a liquid lipstick fan this would be a good option for you.

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Estrella

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Estrella

ESTRELLA:  This is probably my favorite from the bunch.  Its just such a flattering shade on me that can be worn year round for any occasion.  For being a shimmer shade (sheer) it has a good color payoff and is extremely similar to my favorite Avon True Color Lip Balm in Plum Passion.

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Lighthouse

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Lighthouse

LIGHTHOUSE:  This shade is a replacement for Glazewear Mocha Latte.  I picked this because a fellow rep, Lisa Scola, is always spreading her love for Mocha Latte Glazewear, which also is one of our biggest sellers.  I definitely was not disappointed by this neutral.  Just an easy to wear brown towned sheer.

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Aura

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Aura

AURA:  This is another shimmer (sheer) shade with a pink tone, which, as an everyday shade, I think is perfect.  I’ve been wearing this a lot lately just because it goes with every makeup look.  Simple, easy and comfortable.  This is a safe shade if you want to try the Lip Glows but not sure what color to pick.

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Luna

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Luna

LUNA:  Luna is a sleep shade, a surprising stunner that’s super unique.  It’s also unexpectedly selling out.  I picked this one because I wanted to test it out see if it would be a good replacement for a shade my sister is constantly hunting for.   This one wears kind of like a lilac milkshake nude.  It’s also one that works really well layerd over other shades, lipstick or even over a little concealer for a more bolder nude lip.  It almost looks grey toned in these pics, but its a light purple and a shimmer (sheer) formula.

I really like these Lip Glows, super easy to wear.  For years I’ve been pretty exclusive to lipstick and balm so getting back in the lip gloss game is a fun change.  Even better, these are only $5.99 at intro price at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger  That price is a steal considering lip oils from other brands are easily in the $15 to $25 range.  Plus today only, there’s a promo code for FREE SHIPPING on $25 a perfect time to pick up some makeup items like these Lip Glows.  Use promo code HELLOSUMMER at my eBoutique.

WORD OF ALICIA:

I definitely would recommend this as your new bronzer!  First off it’s a super stunning package and design.  I love the shell design and its a decent amount of product for only $16.  That super pretty sparkle however is just on the surface, which is kind of a bummer (and biggest con) but honestly I like matte bronzers better anyhow.  This isn’t a true true matte it has the tiniest amount of shimmer.  There is a lot of shimmer here on my face because it was that first swipe of that top layer.  If you never quite liked Glowdacious because it’s too shimmery then you’ll like this one.  I like that this one isn’t orange at all (even though my pic kinda leans orange but that’s my camera settings) and it isn’t too muddy.  I’ve used it to effectively contour, worn just on the tops of my cheeks, and on any areas I want to look sun kissed.  It met all my expectations.  Wear time is nice as well.  If you want to instantly look like you’ve taken an Maui vacation this is the bronzer to do it!

Pumpkin Spiced Mani

Pumpkin Spiced Mani

Pumpkin Spiced Mani

Because I’m a basic white girl and all things pumpkin and fall-tastic occupy my world lately, a pumpkin spiced mani seemed to be perfectly fitting!  I couldn’t decide what fall mani I wanted to do as I searched through my polish collection.  This Julep  polish in Brielle jumped out at me!  Since burnt orange isn’t really a color in Alicia’s favorites  (or even general likes) I’ve never used this shade.  But this time it called out to me, like “hey, I’m more pumpkin than ugly 70’s burnt orange, and I’m perfect for fall!”

Sweater Weather (mark. Chain Of Command Cardigan)

To spice up the creamy pumpkin orange color in Julep Brielle I added a rose gold stripe on the sides in Essie Penny Talk.  The perfect pumpkin spice mani for a sweater weather kind of day.  I’m super excited to sport this October perfect mani for a trip to the pumpkin patch, or just sipping some pumpkin spiced chai (recipe to come!), either way it’s a winner.

S.O.S. Save My Nails 4 Weeks to Restore My Nails – Results!

If you recall, I had some serious nail issues this summer, so I decided to give them the attention they need.  So I put together a little plan (see the plan here) with what I thought would help.  After week one I definitely saw my pitfalls, being consistent!   After the 4 weeks and now 6 weeks later I have to say the results are pretty much what I wanted.

Starting:  Had to shorten all my nails due to breakage and peeling and tried to give them an almond shape to help combat the breaking corners.

mark. Get The Point Ring and mani to match!

mark. Get The Point Ring and mani to match!

Week 1:  The almond shape does look a bit better with slightly longer nails but the peeling still persisted.  Switching to a moisturizing soap definitely helped my skin!

Week 2:  Finally seeing some strength return!

Week 3:  Cuticles and nails are improving, can’t ask for more!  BONUS!  They’re wearing fall’s hottest shade… check back to see the full details!

Wearing the IT SHADE for fall

Week 4:  Feeling like the length is getting back to a point I’m familiar with, except for that darn middle and ring!  Cuticles are noticeably better!  (But disregard the messy polish around them haha)

BIRTHDAY NAILS!!!  As hoped, in time for my Birthday my nails were better looking, hands more moisturized and looked great with that mark. Case Of The Glam Clutch!

Party Nails For The Birthday Mani!!!

Party Nails For The Birthday Mani!!!

Successes:  I definitely have improved the strength and length of my nails.  My cuticles are much better and switching to a moisturizing soap was key!  I def didn’t experience the tight dryness I had before.

Failures:  I could not for the life of me stay consistent with taking my vitamins, applying lotion and cuticle oil.  I just did it sporadically when I thought of it.  I still have some peeling issues on my ring fingers and I was hoping for better skin appearance in my hands.

My Normal Nails in mark. Nailed It Duo

My Normal Nails in mark. Nailed It Duo

Now 6 weeks later, I’ve ditched the almond shape and went back to square or kinda squoval.  The almond shape just didn’t work on my middle and kind of my ring either.  My natural nail shape is not the best so I have to work with what I’m given.  My pointer and thumb loved it!  They naturally curl under so almond was great for them!  Catch the full details of my mani in last week’s Wear and Share Wednesday post!!!

Going Forward:  I think I’m def better at keeping the hands moisturized with intense cream and cuticle oil at night before bed.  Might not be every night but a couple of times a week isn’t bad.  Moisturizing hand soap is now a staple at my sink and vitamins too, even though I’m sure I’ll overlook them every time I’m washing my hands.  All in all, in 4 weeks I rescued my nails to a point I was pleased with!

2 Looks From The Same mark. Nailed It Duo

Bringing you another Wear and Share Wednesday Jackie from Living After Midnight and I both styled our different looks around one item… these mark. Nailed It Trend Mini Nail Lacqures Duo in Blue Bella and Roesetta ($7).  The set contains two mini bottles of polish in super on trend metallic shades, a dark blue (Blue Bella) and a berry (Rosetta).   Let me just tell you, I’ve seen these shades all over the 2013 releases for fall from Essie to OPI to Zoya and so on and so on.  When mark. released this duo for ONLY $7 (cheaper than one bottle of regular polish!!) as part of the 10 year anniversary collection from mark., Jackie and I knew these were making it into a wear and share Wednesday!

mark, Nailed It Duo for a Nautical Look

mark, Nailed It Duo for a Nautical Look

Not only is it Wear and Share Wednesday but I’m also kicking off Week O’Nautical for Labor Day coming up this weekend!  Nothing is more nautical than a deep metallic blue shade like in Blue Bella, so I used that as my base.  It’s definitely a shade that needs 2 coats but the color payoff is phenom!  I then used Rosetta to make the nautical stripes.

mark. Nailed It Duo in Blue Belle and Rosetta

The stripes were inspired by nautical military jackets, kind of like the one I’m wearing also from mark. which is also part of the 10 year anniversary collection.  This High Ranking Style Jacket ($40 at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger) is a navy knit jacket with military details.  Military trends are always in style so this light weight jacket is perfect year round, but I’m especially loving it for transitioning into fall.  It’s definitely still really hot out but at night its starting to get cooler and its always cold under the blowing ac, so enter in this jacket!

Stroke of Brilliance With Essie

Essie can do no wrong in my eyes.  Thier luxeffects still continue to dazzle me.  My latest luxe obsession is Stroke of Brilliance a sparkling icy blue glitter!  Especially over Don’t Sweater It from the fall release.

Essie Don't Sweater It and Stroke of Brilliance

Essie Don’t Sweater It and Stroke of Brilliance

Since before Halloween I’ve been sporting a lot of black & near black shades so the switch to neutrals was a welcomed change.
Don’t Sweater It was a bit darker on than expected making it a perfect fall basic.  The entire fall collection are must have basics in my opinion.

You know what’s even more perfect than the fall release from Essie?  The winter release!  As if that wasn’t enough, Essie collaborated with Bauble Bar to create coordinated arm parties with each shade from the Winter Leading Lady Collection!  Check out Bauble Bar to create your personalized arm party!  For $50 you pick a shade with matching bracelet then pick any 2 other bracelets to make a coordinated set!  PLUS if you are new to Bauble Bar you get 100 points just for signing up which you can put toward your first purchase giving you $10 off making the set $40 with FREE SHIPPING!  This collab is to die for so sign up, pick your set and arm party like its 1999!

I’m a sucker for these mini cubes because you get just enough polish to last you until you’re on to the next trend.  And who doesn’t like anything and everything miniature!   These two collections and the collaboration with Bauble Bar are nothing short of a stroke of brilliance, good job Essie!

Nail Trend: Mixed Media Nails

Alicia 10 years ago, heck!  even 5 years ago would NEVER wear different nail colors on different nails!  Jigga what!!!  Def would of considered it tacky and gaudy…esp on my long nails.  Let alone multiple colors, patterns, textures, etc…  Let’s just say times, they are a changing because this girl now feels boring with a regular old mani.  I’ve been rocking the accent nail pretty heavily for the past year now and since my nail-spiration pinterest I’ve been inspired to create mani-pieces (mani + masterpieces).  And I have to say, these are way more fun!

For the mixed media nail trend you coordinate mixing color, texture and prints.  Basically, the options are endless!  Play around with which fingers get which color/texture/print but the one rule is more than one nail has to be different.  (if its only one nail, then its an accent nail!)

Mixed Media Nails... Coral, Graphite Glitter and Houndstooth

Mixed Media Nails… Coral, Graphite Glitter and Houndstooth

This was my first attempt, and let me say, at first I didn’t like it.  I thought I looked weird, like I forgot to take off some old polish or was testing out new polish on only a few fingers…  However after a few days I loved it!  So fun, and everytime I looked down at my hands I smiled.  And really, that’s the real reason I paint my nails, because it makes me happy!

For this mixed media mani I used Essie Camera from their Spring 2012 collection on my thumb, pointer and pinky.  For the graphite opaque glitter I used a favorite from China Glaze’s holiday 2011 collection Tinsel Town.  (warning:  as beautiful as it is, this shade chips off like a mo fo).  Finally for my favorite nail, the houndstooth nail!  I used a black base of Maybelline Onyx Rush stamped with konad plate M63 and white Konad polish, all finished off with Essie’s Good To Go Topcoat.  Of course that ring is mark.  I love turquoise and coral together and this was no exception!  You can get the Pretty Stellar ring for yourself at me e.boutique at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com

My most recent attempt got compliments galore!  I used my newest additions to my nail collection including my July Julep maven box.  I decided to break down and get a 2nd box because July’s box included a FREE bottle of America and red white and blue glitter with silver stars.  Ummm YES!  Had to have that!  So I got my bombshell selection including the free America glitter plus a pearly white and purple glitter.  To learn more about getting your own Julep maven box click here!

Mixed Media Mani: White, Purple, Glitter & Metallics!

Mixed Media Mani: White, Purple, Glitter & Metallics!

The other newest addition to my collection is the newly released Essie Summer Metallics in Nothing Else Metals a metallic lilac used on my pointer and middle!  Which I love love love!  I also picked up Penny Talk, a rose gold but that’s a later post :).  For this mani I used Julep’s Kate on my thumb, ring and pinky with Julep’s Chelsea as a gradient on my ring.  I really loved how this mani stood out but wasn’t loud.  And look how chic it looks with black and white and my new favorite ring pairings!  The chevron rings are a set of 3 currently at Target for $7.99 and that KILLER mega black cocktail ring is once again of course mark!  The Black Facet Ring has been my go to lately with the old hollywood flare in the big black stone but keeping it modern with the shinny silver, plus its large and in charge but super wearable.  Get it now for $16 at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com

Are you daring enough to go out of the lines and rock a mixed media mani????

Lake Nails – Peach and Blue

When I knew I was going on the houseboat at Bullards Bar I knew I had to do a mani/pedi in relaxing on the lake, barefoot all day err day type of way.  I knew I didn’t want neons or brights because being surrounded by such natural beauty I needed something more muted and relaxed but still fun, because IT IS summer vacation!

Enter in my color blocked fingers and shimmering blue toes!

Peach and Blue Color Blocking

Peach and Blue Color Blocking

Shimmery Blue Pedi

Shimmery Blue Pedi

These are from lounging on the houseboat deck in the shade scouting out the amazing morning glass-like lake enjoying my chai.  Yes it was as amazing as it sounds.  I totally was going to colorblock my whole hand but preparing and packing got the best of me so I settled for an accent nail.  This was the quick and easy way to get a mani with some interest.  In retrospect I should of tapped off my nail lower creating a half and half color blocking.

Essie A Crewed Interest and Smooth Sailing

Essie A Crewed Interest and Smooth Sailing

For my relaxed muted nails in peach and blue I used Essie’s A Crewed Interest and Smooth Sailing.  Its not surprise I’ve been wearing the crap out of the peach cream A Crewed Interest since it was released this spring.  Smooth Sailing, while beautiful in the bottle with its periwinkle blue with silver/purple micro shimmer I’ve never worn it (summer 11 release).  I thought this occasion was perfect for me to bust it out!  Plus with a name like Smooth Sailing its a match made for a houseboat vacation.  I usually think blues and greens look gaudy on my long nails which is why I kept the blue on my toes and just accented it.

I loved this pairing for the lake, I thought it had that vacation fun aspect while channeling all things lake-like with muted hues.  Plus it started out my week o’ nautical on the right pedicured foot!  (ps. sorry if my toes/feet aren’t so cute, just focus on the color!)

Resort Sea Water Nails with Essie

So my all time, hands down, absolute favorite Essie collection is the resort 2010 collection.  Small and only 4 shades, but I constantly reach for them when spring and summer come around.  I just took off Playa Del Platinum from the collection, the greige shade that wears clean.  I’ve already highlighted Turquoise & Caicos here and here!  So I was inspired by the pretty sea water shades of this collection.  It was rainy and gray here on Monday, and it was a Monday… so I wanted something that transported me to a resort state of mind.  Enter in Essie:

Sea Water Nails

Sea Water Nails

My hand looks really red, but regardless I used Essie Turquoise & Caicos with my accent nail in Lapis of Luxury.  I used Essie’s Shine Of The Times Luxeffects topcoat on my ring and as a french tips.  As always I used Essie’s Good To Go Topcoat and All In One Base.  Using Shine Of The Times over these hues really makes them glimmer and shimmer like sea water reflecting the morning sun.

The Lineup: All In One Base, Turquoise & Caicos, Lapis of Luxury, Good To Go

The Lineup: All In One Base, Turquoise & Caicos, Lapis of Luxury, Good To Go

I’m typically shy away from greens and blues because I think they look kinda gaudy on my long nails but for some reason this collection’s sea worthy hues don’t look so bad!  I think its because they’re soft, jelly like and just plain old pretty.  I look down and smile at my finger tips and isn’t that what it’s all about anyway, whatever makes you happy.

Before topcoat and luxeffect

Before topcoat and luxeffect

These colors are great alone and dry with a shine even before topcoat.  If you don’t own these shades I HIGHLY recommend them.  Plus with names like Turquoise and Caicos and Lapis of Luxury how can you not be instantly transported to those beautiful islands at a luxury resort sipping a beverage with a little umbrella in it, staring at beautiful blue and green waters… yes this is where my mind wants to be, even if it is only reality on my nails.

Happy Memorial Day with Nautical Nails

You got a sneak peek of my mani here and my pedi here so its no surprise what I’ve been sporting all week, but here’s a little more.

Nautical Nails

Nautical Nails

I wanted to do something different but I wasn’t very inspired.  After some google images searches I still wasn’t too inspired.  I knew I wanted to wear gold on my fingers and I knew alllacquredup.com did a great nautical flag manicure with last year’s China Glaze Anchor’s Away collection, so I took that idea and ran with it for my toes.

I have on the bright orange from my Julep intro box,  Natasha.  I then tapped off my big toe and did a diagonal block or Essie’s Midnight Cami, a sparkling deep navy.  I then used one of those Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen’s to do the line, which I can’t recall the shade right now but I have to say… eh.  They just don’t work as great as I want them to.  The flow isn’t even so I can never get the line to be how I want it, clean and precise.  However, it works for now.

For my mani, I used that same deep navy, Essie Midnight Cami,  as my accent nails.  I usually only do my ring, but I wanted a little extra impact this time.  The gold glitter on top is also from my Julep maven box, Oscar.  I did it in a gradient approach and I just loved how this color combo glittered in the sun with the dark navy base and bright gold glitter.  My regular gold polish used on the rest of my fingers is China Glaze High Tech.  I love this shade, its not to warm or cool and super metallic!  Check out how it looked with my arm party chillin’ at a weekend BBQ.

Nautical Arm Party

Nautical Arm Party

I’m of course wearing my Borrowed from The Boys Watch once again and my Cross Your Fingers Ring in gold both from mark.  The white bracelets I randomly found in my jewelry box and I think they’re from H&M years and years ago, but was pretty pleased I found them to wear with this weekend’s nautical looks!
