Makeup Looks To Master: Going Out

Makeup Looks To Master: Going Out

Makeup Looks To Master: Going Out

Things are going up on a Tuesday!  Well, that’s if you count the grocery store as going out… But my going-out makeup is!  Party makeup is the most fun and where you can take more risks.  I like to switch it up for the event, season, weather and just the overall vibes but having one go-to makeup look helps when you don’t have a lot of time to get ready, don’t know what you’re going to wear or exactly how the event will play out.  For the past year this has been my go-to going out makeup look.

Glittery Eyes and a Fun Lip!

Glittery Eyes and a Fun Lip!

Glittery eyes and a fun lip.  After stalking it for some time I finally used my birthday week treats to pick up the Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Kitten Karma.  This is a pretty intense gold glitter that pretty much makes your going out makeup a party all itself.  However it is $24 a pop so when Avon released their Glimmershadows in Fools Gold I noticed it was a pretty good dupe at only $8.  In the photo below I’m wearing the Stila version with a pink lip, in these other photos I’m wearing the Avon Glimmershadow.  You can see they’re very similar and a very fun going out look!

Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Kitten Karma

A glittery liquid shadow like these are so impactful you don’t need much.  I like to start with putting some concealer on my eyelid, no need for a primer with the Avon since its so long lasting.  Then I’ll apply the glimmershadow.  I let it dry and set for maybe 30 seconds then I’ll go in with a neutral taupe shade above the crease in the transition area.  If I’m adding an outer v color then I will, like here I used a little black shadow.  I then use my favorite liquid liner Avon True Color Liquid Precise Pen and follow up with curling my lashes and mascara, Avon Love at 1st Lash in black.

When doing my go-to going out look I stick to lip shades I know I love.  A good liquid lipstick will have more staying power for a long night out of eating and drinking!  I’m wearing mark. Pout Velvet Lip Paint in Fancy.  This has been discontinued which means savings for you, its only $5.99 right now!  I did pick up a backup as this is one of my favorites, its very comfortable to wear!  On my face I started with the same primer, Magix tint and blush I used in my everyday makeup look — see here.  Only addition is I added some making setting spray at the end and I did my brows (as seen here).  Going out makeup is the perfect time to contour and highlight however I didn’t do that here… oops.

Believe me you want a glitter shadow in your arsenal!  Even if you don’t go all out a little swipe of this on a clean lid and some mascara will have you instantly party-ready!  But note, these Avon Glimmershadows are selling like hotcakes!  There are a few shades already on back order and not a whole lot of stock coming down the pipes until closer to fall, so I recommend you jump on this Fool’s Gold shade while its still available AND they’re buy one get one half off at my eBoutique!

Makeup Look To Master: The Quickie

Makeup Look To Master: The Quickie

Makeup Look To Master: The Quickie

Even if you are not a perpetually late person like me, you need to master the quickie!  From my 5 makeup looks to master the quickie is the easiest and most necessary!  Need something you can quickly do to feel good and look good. Your quickie makeup look has to be quick and easy and with no-fail products!

Easy Breezy Word of Alicia

Easy Breezy Word of Alicia

I have a few of these quickie techniques that I rotate, based on scenario and what products I have at hand… aka what’s already in my purse, what’s on top of my makeup bag if I’m home, what activity I’m doing, going to work/going to the store/etc…  For this look I went with my lashes and lips technique.

Quick and Easy Makeup

Quick and Easy Makeup

On my face I just used concealer, concentrating on under eyes, around my nose and chin.  (I’m using a discontinued one so currently on the hunt for a new one, spam me with your favorites!)  I usually keep a mini blush in my purse right now its a mini Nars Laguna Bronzer and Orgasm Blush which I swirled together and lightly applied.  For eyes it’s just lots of mascara with the Avon Love at First Lash Mascara.  I kinda apply it messy so the transfer kinda darkens the lash line like a liner would.  And then seal the deal with a bright lipstick, Avon True Color Nourishing Lipstick in Dragonfruit.  Quick and Easy.

Messy Mascara = Prentend Liner

Messy Mascara = Prentend Liner

It’s the bright bold lip that makes this looked so finished and polished.  If I have an ounce more of time and a good mirror I’ll do my eyeliner with my Avon SuperExtend Liquid Liner Pen (see review here).  Gets me closer to my Everyday Slay look.  Nice thing about being an Avon lady is I always have those little lipstick bullets in a pocket, drawer, bag, somewhere so I can get this quick look very easily.

Lip of the Day: Avon True Color Nourishing Lipstick in Dragonfruit

Lip of the Day: Avon True Color Nourishing Lipstick in Dragonfruit

This is also the technique I used for my beach makeup, only I use a waterproof mascara and wear a tinted lip balm instead of lipstick and more bronzer than blush.  But real quick my earrings are from the Julia X Avon collection which is coming back to the outlet next week so be sure to check out http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger for them and for my Avon makeup products I used in this look!  Be sure to keep following along my 5 makeup looks to master series here on the blog because all these selfies have me like…

The Truth of Taking Selfies

Makeup Look To Master: Everyday Slay

Makeup Look To Master: Your Everyday Slay

Makeup Look To Master: Your Everyday Slay

The everyday makeup look is the hardest to perfect in my opinion, which is probably why mine is ever changing.  Not only do you need to find the best flattering shades, you also need to find the best formulas for your skin type and that work with your lifestyle… not to mention techniques and trends!  No one wants to look like they’re doing the same look they did when they first started wearing and experimenting with makeup.

First, determine what your everyday looks like.  What features you want to highlight, what products you like to use. Like for me, I like the look of a heavier eye and I don’t really like to wear foundation, so my look is going to be a more complicated eye look and a simpler face look.  For my lifestyle I need a look that works for my 9-5 that’s business casual, along with some after work and weekend casual actives.  Additionally, most of the year its super hot so I need something that doesn’t melt/sweat off and can handle my large pores.

My Go-To Everyday Makeup

My Go-To Everyday Makeup

Now that I’ve determined what my needs are, its time to slay!  I kid, I kid… I don’t slay I just like that it kinda rhymes… Anywho, I start with skincare straight out of the shower, a serum, eye cream and moisturizer.  Right now I’m using the Avon Anew Dual Elixir, the Anew Hydra Fusion Eye Serum and the Anew Ultimate Day Cream with SPF 25.

To battle my large pores and help battle the hot temps my face makeup starts with a primer, Ulta Poreless Face Primer.  Even though I said I don’t like foundation I’ve been wearing the Avon Magix Tinted Moisturizer in Light Medium.  It doesn’t feel like a foundation, or look like one, just blurs my imperfections and evens my skin tone all while looking natural.  Next, I follow up  with concealer under my eyes, on lids and on nose.  I use a fluffy brush and apply bronzer on the top of cheeks and forehead followed by blush on the apples of my cheeks.  Right now I’m using up my mark. Hooked Up Bronzer and been loving the Avon Blush Palette  from the spring.

Pinky Neutral Eyes and Liquid Liner

Pinky Neutral Eyes and Liquid Liner

For eyes, I stick to neutral pinks and taupes that are cool toned for my everyday.  Lately my go-to is a taupe shade in the transition area (from this holiday palette) and the Avon Glimmershadows in Rose Gold all over my lid and underneath.  From that same holiday palette I use a shimmery white to highlight my inner corners and brow bone.  I top it off with a winged eye using the Avon True Color SuperExtend Precise Liquid Liner in Black and Love and First Lash Mascara.  On my lips my everyday is some sort of balm or nourishing lipstick or oil, here I’m wearing some Burts Bee’s Lip Balm.

Just some side eye and RBF

Just some side eye and RBF

This is typically my everyday, all I do is tweak this look.  I tweak the eyeshadow colors and the lips most often.  Same eyeliner, same mascara, same blush/bronzer duo.  If I’m feeling really extra I’ll add a contour or highlight or maybe do my brows but for the most part this is it and easily re-createable even if you aren’t a liquid winged eyeliner fan, just swap in your fav black eyeliner (Glimmersticks are really easy to use!)

You can shop most of my go-to products that I used for this look at my eBoutique and today, June 6th, you can get FREE SHIPPING with a $25 order!  Perfect time to pick up some new makeup that are at lower price points.  I’d also suggest getting some Bug Guard as its on sale right now too!

This was a lot of words of/from alicia and very few and very similar pictures so if you read this entire post, kudos to you!

Ultra Luxury Liners for $1.75

Ultra Luxury Liners for $1.75

Word of Alicia:  These liners are a re-release because they originally discontinued them and got so many requests to bring them back that they did.  I remember not loving them before, but I probably tried the black eyeliner and a pencil eyeliner is not what I like in a black eyeliner so I prob was like pass… so this time around I tried an eyeliner in a fun color (in Emerald), a brow pencil because why not (in Blonde), and a lip pencil (in Chocolate).

Ultra Luxury Lip Liner in Chocolate

Ultra Luxury Lip Liner in Chocolate

I’m really glad I did because the Ultra Luxury Lip Liner is Chocolate is now a top favorite makeup item!  Its the perfect nude brown that you can wear alone or with your favorite lip shade.  The pencil gives a nice sharp line while still being soft and comfortable to wear and they sharpen really well too!

Ultra Luxury Brow Pencil in Blonde

Ultra Luxury Brow Pencil in Blonde

I’m not a huge brow person so take my review with a grain of salt, but the blonde pencil is perfect cool toned blonde that works well for brows.  It’s soft enough to easily apply and hard enough not to go on as a blobby mess.  For someone who just fills in and defines every once in awhile this is PERFECT!

Ultra Luxury Eyeliner in Emerald

Ultra Luxury Eyeliner in Emerald

The Emerald Ultra Luxury Eyeliner surprised me too!  It’s definitely softer, muted color not as opaque as I usually go for, but sometimes that’s what you want.  If you are not a big eyeliner person and just want a little definition or use it rarely these at $1.75 couldn’t be better.  These aren’t super long lasting but if you pair it with a primer and a good lid shade base color it lasts through the day.

I got these when the first launched earlier in the year so I’ve had some time to give them a good go, not just a first impression.  I do know I’ll be picking up a few more lip shades, Currant has my eye.  In the eyeliners I already got the Sky Blue to try but maybe I should get the Eggplant too!  I mean these are a $1.75!  PLUS on Thursday June 6th there will be a FREE SHIP CODE on a $25 order so would be a great time to get a little makeup order going, maybe swoop on that SSS Bug Guard that’s on sale too!  I’ll keep ya posted when the code goes live at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger

5 Makeup Looks You Should (and can) Master

5 Makeup Looks To Master

5 Makeup Looks To Master

Makeup Monday is going to cary on all week because I’ll be sharing 5 makeup looks you should master for your life. I realize not everyone is as much of a product junkie as me, but what I also realized is basically I just do 5 main looks and tweak them, and they’re pretty much the looks everyone should have in their makeup arsenal.  So!  I’ll be sharing posts on each of the 5 looks, how you can master them and how you can tweak them.

You CAN do it!

You CAN do it!

With each look you’ll want to master them according to your skin type and lifestyle.  Its kinda like how workout videos have the main person to follow along with and then one person doing the modified version for not as skilled and then one doing modified for those more advanced.  You can do the same thing with makeup, be extra or be minimal.  Here are the 5 looks I feel are the ones everyone should and can master:

  1.  Everyday Slay – your go to everyday makeup routine that works for work, play, weekend and more.  Just complimentary go with everything shades that work for you.
  2. The Quickie – a super quick version of your everyday that can be done super quick when running late.  These are your dessert island products you can put on in a snap.
  3. Going Out – this is your party look for a night out or a special event that you know will look good for pictures but also makes you feel a little special.
  4. Big and Bold – going big or go home, with a bold pop of color, be it a bold lip or a bold eye or both!
  5. Seasonal Switch – you need to adapt your makeup for the season not just in colors but also in formula, I’ll be featuring my summer edition.

Dressing Up A T-Shirt Dress

Dressing Up A T-Shirt Dress

Dressing Up A T-Shirt Dress

One of my favorite styles in life is a T-Shirt Dress. I like the grab and go ease of one that works for pretty much any occasion, especially in Nor Cal.  Which is apparent in all these previous posts I’ve done wearing a t-shirt dress.  When I ordered the Avon Ella Dress I, at the time, had plans of wearing it for Easter, but when it arrived I realized it was a t-shirt dress!  I wanted something a little more formal but in the process I realized you can dress up t-shirt dress for church, work, baby showers, wedding showers, spring flings… you name it spring event… All while being comfy in a loose t-shirt!

Step 1: Shoes!

Step 1: Shoes!

Dressing up a t-shirt dress comes down to three things for me, shoes, accessories and a shaping layer.  Let’s start with the shoes... because let’s always start with the shoes!  In this case a classic nude patent pump from Nine West took my outfit more polished.  You could swap in your favorite classic flats with this one if you’re not a pump gal, or a clean nude heeled sandal for hotter weather.

Step 2: Accessories

Step 2: Accessories

Next up, accessories!  A t-shirt dress is the perfect canvas for all your fun accessories, in this case we want to dress it up so what better than pearls and rhinestones!?  My pearly set is from Avon (which sold out but is coming back in stock this summer!)  A bit on the statement side this pearly necklace really just stands out and turns my OOTD very pretty.

Step 3: Shaping Layer

Step 3: Shaping Layer

Lastly, a shaping layer.  What does that even mean?  It means that usually a t-shirt dress can be kinda shapeless, so, add in something that gives it some structure!  A jacket, a blazer, a cardigan or even a belt or scarf.  We’re looking to dress up a t-shirt dress so some structure does that.  The Avon Ella Dress has these fun ruffled sleeve details so I pulled out this long jacket/blazer with similar ruffled sleeve details in a perfect-for-spring blush color from Calvin Klein.  The pastel colors compliment while the jacket gives it that a polished finish.  Plus I like how the blush tone from the jacket pulls out the blush tone in the necklace.

The power of accessories are strong with this one.  This is a rather boring outfit but with the right accessories I was able to make it feel fun and elevated.  A fun statement neckalce really dresses up such basic jeans outfit.  The sandals in a red and blue stripe are a really fun way to make it more nautical.  I picked these up on clearance after stalking them all last year.  And just to note there’s a big summer clearance coming to my Avon store in about a month!

Week O’Nautical: The Nautical Trench Coat

Week O'Nautical: The Nautical Trench Coat

Week O’Nautical: The Nautical Trench Coat

This nautical trench coat is a bit of a unicorn item for me.  With the weather we’ve been having its kind of the perfect piece for a spring layer.  It is functional and seasonal and also classic in style with a classic nautical look in navy and white stripes.

My Unicorn Coat

My Unicorn Coat

Lets go back a few years when Cabi released this beautiful navy and striped trench coat. It was out of my budget and not the most practical purchase for me especially at a higher cost. I live in Nor Cal where coat weather is pretty much only Nov – Feb… and let me tell you I already have a billion coats. So I stalked it.  And stalked it.  And stalked it and wish I had it.  THEN I saw Express release their version, but again at a higher price than I wanted to spend on another coat I don’t need.  I had a great black trench coat from Express that Nicki found me on clearance back during the working at the mall, Elder Beerman days.  Probably like 2001 and that guy lasted me a good 15 years or more.  So when this striped version went on clearance and I was able to get it for pennies on the dollar I swooped it.  That was also in July so it hasn’t even been worn until this spring!  And now, my unicorn coat is home where it belongs, getting its full exposure on Week O’Nautical.

Navy and White Striped Trench Coat

Navy and White Striped Trench Coat

Even living in a climate where coats are super necessary this is still a style that should be a staple.  Come spring we’re all ready to leave all the black and grays of winter behind.  And hey, San Francisco is only a car ride away and I’ll always need a jacket there!

Shades of Nautical; Gold, White and Navy Stripes!

Shades of Nautical; Gold, White and Navy Stripes!

My OOTD is basically this Week O’Nautical look all over again, gold sweater and white jeans.  My sweater is also from Express circa early 2000’s and my jeans are some random brand from Marshalls.  Slides are Calvin Klein from Nordstrom’s Rack… and I’m loving them with white jeans!

You might remember I also wore this trench over my spring dress here, for another look at its versatility.  I found quite a few of this exact jacket on Poshmark and Ebay but I’m also loving this BCBG one and this Rachael Roy one.  I’m hoping I can pack this puppy away soon, but it has been my must have go-to this week!

Planning my OOTD around my red Hunter Rain Boots!

With the on again off again rain, I had to bust out those red Hunters!  I started there and built up!  Navy Ponte Pants (Avon Kaya Ponte Pant in Navy) because they can be easily tucked into boots and thick enough to not have the wind go right through them.  Then I added a blue and white striped off the shoulder blouse (Kohls, old).  Layered on some of my fav nautical jewelry, a red lip, and I’m good to go!
