All Is Palm Maxi!  Not only does it have the perfect tropical palm print, it has an easy to wear shape and straps you can wear 5 ways (or more if you’re creative!)

Friendsgiving – Thanksgiving Appetizers

Let’s be honest, he best part of Thanksgiving, or in my case, Friendsgiving this year, is those hours before you eat when things are cooking and you’re snacking on delicious appetizers and socializing!  A personal favorite is dips!  Who doesn’t like a good dip!?!  The main staple from my family is a good warm, cheesy artichoke dip!  It’s perfect for the fall and Thanksgiving, plus it’s super easy!

eat, drink and give thanks

eat, drink and give thanks

Artichoke Dip

  • 1 pkg (8oz) Philadelphia cream cheese softened
  • 1 can (14 oz) Artichoke hears, drained and chopped
  • ½ cup mayo
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 clove garlic minced

Mix all, spoon in pie plate bake 350 for 25 min.

**If you’d like add in some jalapeno’s for some extra kick, or bacon for some savory salty goodness.  Serve it with some fresh french bread or baguette.

A good pairing with artichoke dip is some brie with fruit.  I personally like baked brie for fall paired with apples and grapes.  The clean crisp flavor from the fruit balances well with the savory artichoke dip.  I also love a good crispy cracker because sometimes that’s what I like my dip and brie on!

A few more staples from Hessinger family Thanksgivings are the good old spinach dip in a pumpernickel bread bowl, BLT dip served with broccoli, and the forever a favorite french onion dip.  Now besides the BLT, these are 70’s favorites and I’m sure your mom made them too.  They aren’t fancy but sometimes you don’t need to be.  But what we do like to do is try something new!  This year my new recipe is Caramelized Onion, Mushroom, Apple & Gruyere Bites.

Caramelized Onion, Mushroom, Apple & Gruyere Bites
Ingredients:
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz. baby bella mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1½ granny smith apples, cubed into ½” cubes
  • 1 tsp. granulated sugar
  • 1½ oz. grated gruyere cheese
  • 2 tbsp. chives, minced
  • ½ tsp. dried thyme
  • 1 package (1 pound) of frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten
Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line baking sheets with silicone baking mats. Set side.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil and cook the onions (with 1 tsp. of salt) until they’re golden brown, about 30 minutes. Remove and set aside in a large bowl. In the same skillet, sauté mushrooms until tender, about 5 minutes. Remove and set aside in the bowl with the onions.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter and add in the apples with the sugar. Cook until softened, about 10 minutes. Remove from pan and add to the large bowl with onions and mushrooms.
  4. Add the cheese, chives, and thyme to the bowl and stir to combine the mixture well. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  5. With a pizza cutter, cut the puff pastry into 2-inch squares and place them on the lined baking sheets. Using a pastry brush, brush beaten egg on the squares.
  6. Using a tablespoon, place filling in the middle of each puff pastry.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes, rotating the pans halfway through and switching the baking sheet on the top rack to the bottom and the bottom to the top, until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.
  8. Let the tarts cool a bit before serving, you don’t want people to burn the roofs of their mouths!
And just to recap here are a few more Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving ideas on what to wear, mani ideas, makeup ideas and an easy cranberry sauce recipe.

Easy Homemade Fresh Cranberry Sauce

Easy Homemade Fresh Cranberry Sauce

Easy Homemade Fresh Cranberry Sauce

It’s not that I don’t like the canned stuff, it’s that homemade and fresh is so much better!  My mom made this years and years ago as an alternative and we’ve never looked back.  It’s more of a relish than a jelly sauce, but not only will it taste way better, it dresses up your holiday meal like no other!  Plus!  It’s excellent for leftover turkey sandwiches!

What You Need:

1 bag of fresh cranberries
½ cup sugar
1 whole navel orange, cut in quarters, remove any seed if any are there, should not be but sometimes a little one is there
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp dry raspberry Jell-o

How To Make It:

Grind all in processor, blender or chopper

Let sit about 2 hours or longer, to blend flavors.  The Jell-o has to dissolve.  Overnight is really best!

Notes:

You can double this recipe for a large crowd.

You can chop as fine as you want, but I do pretty fine.

You do not have to cook this recipe, usually don’t but I have cooked it before for a little different taste.

I'm Thankful For Tasty Cranberry Sauce!

I’m Thankful For Tasty Cranberry Sauce!

I will most certainly will be making this for Friendsgiving this Saturday.  Plus it’s one of those things that you can do the night before making one less task on the busy day.  Enjoy!  And if you need some more inspiration for the day check out my ideas on what to wear, mani idea, makeup idea and some of my favorite appetizers!

DIY Pumpkin Spiced Chai

DIY Pumpkin Spiced Chai

DIY Pumpkin Spiced Chai

I’m definitely not a coffee drinker, but tea, tea I do!  I like a hot beverage in the morning especially on a crisp fall morning.  I love the idea of all those cool flavored beverages that all the cool kids order, but I just can’t stomach anything coffee.  So when in doubt, turn to pinterest!  I found a recipe for a home made pumpkin spice syrup that actually turned out pretty good.  Add it to chai and Pinterest Success!!

Step 1:  Start by making the syrup.  Not only does this recipe make a ton it stores in the fridge well and you can use it plenty of other things, like apple cider or coffee.

Pumpkin Spice Syrup orig from Annie’s Eats

  • 1½ cups water
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp. ground ginger (or put a little nub of peeled fresh ginger root in the water as it’s cooking)
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 tsp. ginger sugar (if you don’t have any ginger sugar, you can skip this. It just adds a little extra zip to the syrup.)
  • 3 tbsp. pumpkin puree

Directions:

  1. Combine the water and sugar in a medium saucepan and heat over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  2.  Toss in the cinnamon sticks and cloves, then whisk in the remaining spices and the pumpkin puree.
  3. Continue to cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, without letting the mixture come to a boil. If you screw up and it does accidentally come to a boil, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal — mine did and the syrup tasted fine!
  4. Remove from the heat and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth and funnel into a bottle or jar.
  6. Store in the refrigerator.
  7. Sidenote: I like to leave a cinnamon stick in the bottle/jar

Step 2:  After you have your syrup ready, prepare some chai tea.  Any brand will do, I prefer Tazo Classic Chai Tea Bags.  I personally just seep one bag in about 4-6oz of water.  Or use the “small cup” amount on your Keurig.

Step 3:  Prepare equal parts of warm milk.  You basically want half tea half milk, so if you used 4-6oz heat 4-6oz of milk.  Heating the milk separately doesn’t make it get filmy.

Step 4:  Combine tea, warm milk, and 2-3 tablespoons of the pumpkin spice syrup and mix.

And there you go!  A perfectly spicy fall drink to enjoy while lounging in your perfect fall sweater, painting your perfect pumpkin spice mani on a perfect fall day doing basic white girl fall activities!

Enjoying a Coconut Treat in Maui

Enjoying a Coconut Treat in Maui

If the world of alicia was the internet then today the top trending search would be #coconuttreat  I’m such a sucker for anything coconut!  Not only is it delicious (as a kid it was my favorite snack) but it also just smells like summer (can we say hawaiian tropic!)  Here are my top 5 coconut treats that I’m obsessing over

#bathandbody

mark. Coconut Treat Body Line

mark. Coconut Treat Body Line

This entire line of bath and body products from mark. in coconut treat are straight out of paradise!  The scent is described as a deliciously tropical indulgence, with refreshing coconut water and mandarin mingling with luscious hazelnut and coconut cream.  Basically, in licia-language its a warm coconut smell with sweet undertones.  It’s not overpowering or too beachy so you can wear it for all occasions.  This whole line is a must!  Layer by starting with Three’s A Charm 3-in-1 cleanser (8) that can be used as a body wash, bubble bath or shampoo!  Follow up with Whipped Up Body Butter ($10), my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE, super moisturizing and creamy.  The finish off with Get Misty Body Mist ($14) for lasting smell-delish-all-day power!  I’ve never been more excited about a bath and body line since Bath and Body Works return of Vanilla Bean Noel each Christmas.  Shop the collection at my eBoutique.

#sheenstealer

mark. Sheen Stealer Coconut Treat

The Sheen Stealer Dry Oil Body Spray ($10) in #coconuttreat is so awesome it is trending all on its own!  If you know me, you know I’m a huge advocate for oils, from hair to body to cuticles… Nothing quite does the job like a good nutrient rich oil.  This one not only is an easy to use spray dry oil but it smells so divine!  AND it makes your tan look WAY better.  Just spray this on your arms and chest for a glowing finish.  Then spray a line down your legs which will also make them look longer and tanner!  This gives your bod a back from the beach glow that just screams summer!  Shop it at my eBoutique.

#coconutwater

Coconut water straight from the coconut!

Coconut water straight from the coconut!

The power of coconut water is like that of a miracle!  Seriously, its the most hydrating and it tastes the best straight from the coconut.  Yes, some of you might think its bitter, so it might be an acquired taste, but once you acquire it you’ll never look back!  To help break you in try one of the ones flavored with pineapple or mango.  You can get these at your local grocery store.  I prefer the large coconut you have to machete open as my #coconuttreat

PS.  You might recall that Phone It In Bag from my Hawaii must-haves 🙂

Pool Days

Pool Days

Yes, yes I know, tanning is bad.  Sun is bad.  But life is too short not for me to enjoy my favorite pastime.  Sunbathing!  I have a hard time getting color, I just say I have natural sunscreen.  The only thing that works for me is Hawaiian Tropic Tanning Oil and a day of sun.  Plus I absolutely LOVE the strong coconut smell!  To me this IS summer and the ultimate #coconuttreat

#coconutcream

Berries and Coconut Cream

Berries and Coconut Cream

For a REAL #coconuttreat this pretty much is my ideal of yummy!  For the perfect summer breakfast, snack, dessert, party favorite try this recipe from Love and Lemmons for Berries and Coconut Cream.  After finding it on pinterest I’ve been obsessed ever since.  This would be great at a summer picnic, super easy and really yummy!

I hope you’re inspired to get some #coconuttreat trending in your world.

Family functions were never a hassle but a privilege!  Always super fun with the cousins and even better with the food… particularly the dips and desserts.  One staple was Aunt Donna’s Lemon Squares and an absolute favorite.  My mouth is watering just thinking of that sweet and tangy treat… mmmm lemon squares mmmm…

1/3 cup powdered sugar

1 cup butter (slightly softened)

Filling:

6 slightly beaten eggs

1 & 3/4 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice

1/4c flour plus 1/4 tsp baking powder

Put flour, butter and powdered sugar in food processor.  Process until crumbly.

Press into 13×9 pan and bake at 350 for 20 min or until lightly browned.

While crust is baking, prepare filling.

Mix eggs, sugar, lemon juice, flour and baking powder (do not over mix)

Pour over baked crust and return to over for approximately 20 min at 350.  Keep checking near end of baking time to remove as soon as filling doesn’t jiggle anymore.  Dust with powdered sugar when cool and enjoy!
