Fake Tan Tips and Tricks

Fake it until you make it! And this summer is definitely a fake it year, because I’ve barely done any summer sun activities, especially any that give me that golden glow. So that means my fake tan game is on, and I’ve gone pro or at least semi-pro! Here are my tips and tricks for getting a good fake tan at home.

Fake Tan Tips and Tricks

Fake Tan Tips and Tricks

Regardless if I’m doing a fake tan sesh at night or in the am it all starts in the shower.  Step 1 you need to exfoliate to create the perfect “canvas.”  In the shower I’ll exfoliate with my Skin So Soft Radiant Glow Body Polish.  It’s a gentle scrub, doesn’t clog your drain, and it’s moisturizing.  I either will use a brush or just my palms.

2nd step for me is a step most people don’t do.  I usually use a bath oil after I shower but those typically break down fake tans.  I still need a moisturizer because moisturized skin will take tan better and prevents it being patchy.  My trick is to use an in shower moisturizer.  I love the one’s from Avon — and you can get the Moisture Therapy Ultra Hydration In Shower Lotion right now for FREE with a $50 order at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger using promo code SUMMER50

After I’ve showered step 3 is to use a body butter around the tricky spots like ankles, knees, elbows, feet… basically places where fake tan always goes patchy.  A body butter works better than a lotion as it thicker formula stays where you put it and nut butters don’t break down the tan.  Right now I’m LOVING this Skin So Soft Supreme Nourishment with Coconut Oil (launches in my eBoutique in a couple weeks!).

Moisturizing products are the key!

Finally step 4, the actual tanning solution.  This summer I’ve been using this Tan AF foam version which I like but don’t love as much as the Neutrogena 3 Days To Glow Moisturizer.  I tend to like a moisturizing lotion form over a foam for my skin.  I also tend to get the medium to deep shade so I only have to apply once, versus having to re-apply in 4 hrs to get the desired shade.  I mean the 3 day one works best when you do it 3 days in a row, but I’ve used it just one day and it still gave me color.

Week O’Nautical: Sea of Shimmer

Hello short week!  Hello Week O’Nautical!  Even though I’m in the office today, I’m dreaming of being kissed by the sun while staring at shimmering sea.  Since that is not my reality, I’m sporting some killer beauty items that make me look like I am!  I really was inspired by this page in the Avon brochure, then I realized these are all the products I’ve been loving lately!  So here’s my current top 5 products for a sun kissed shimmering look!

Sea of Shimmer

Sea of Shimmer

  1.  Skin So Soft Radiant Glow Illuminating Dry Oil Mist – currently on backorder (available in 2 weeks) but this shimmer oil is my #1 top favorite.  I’m a huge body oil fan, but this works for those who aren’t.  Just spray on arms/legs/whereever you want a little glow!

  2. Radiant Glow Skin Lumosity Polish – summer is all about bare skin so to keep it glowing need to get off the rough edges and this scrub does the trick and then some.  It’s creamy so extra moisturizing and smells amazing!

  3. Avon True Color Sandy Beach Bronzing Palette – with two bronze shades and a pink shade this is my go-to for easy makeup.  I use the darker shade where you’d contour at, the pink shade as a blush and the lighter bronze shade to blend the two together.  I also swirl them all together and with a light hand bronze up my face for a quick look.

  4. Avon True Color Dazzle Drops – if that wasn’t enough shimmer, I’ve been adding these dazzle drops for even more!  I apply them with my finger for a highlight on the cheek bone and cupids bow.  I also mix in with body lotion and apply all over my arms and chest for that shimmering like the sea shimmer.

  5. Avon True Color Sunset Beach Face & Eye Palette – For a fun summer change this blush and eye pallet has been my go-to.  Its all in one so makes getting ready super easy.  Use the bronze shade all over the lid with a quick line of blue eye liner (like the ones above) for a sunkissed day look.  For a night out look, I like the green as a crease color, the peach as a transition shade and the blue on the center of the eye for a pop.  Looks great with the Sandy Beach Bronzing Palette too!  And it has cute pineapples printed on it!

I may not have that fresh from the sea glow naturally but with the help of these goodies I can fake it until I make it!  Plus, shimmer goes with everything!  These products are my top pick from a bunch of new items this year that are part of Avon’s #brilliantlyavon products.  Search that hashtag on social media for some more IRL’s (in real life pics).
