Apres Ski: Ski Prints

Apres Ski: Ski Prints

Apres Ski: Ski Prints

Winter has me currently crushing on all things apres ski (as seen here). With my upcoming winter weekend trip I’m planning and pinning so many ski prints. Ski prints range from fair isle to plaid and everything in-between. Basically, all you winter favorites fit for a chalet!

Avon Zoey Knit Vest

Avon Zoey Knit Vest

I picked up this Avon Zoey Knit Vest from the Southwest Capsule Collection.  It technically is an Aztec print, but by pairing it with winter pieces it reads ski print.  It all comes from native prints which are all very similar.

Wrap Belt Tied In The Back!

Wrap Belt Tied In The Back!

For winter wear, I layered the Avon Zoey Knit Vest and tied the wrap belt in the back so it give is a little different shape.  Layering over a black turtleneck, Avon Sloan Turtleneck in black, lets the vest be the statement piece.

It wouldn’t be winter wear without some boots!  These glossy black Hunter boots are staples for me in the winter.  I find them be so comfortable and they work better than any boot to keep out the wet, plus they are fashion friendly!

Even though I am in mild weathered California, I still find a need for warm winter pieces.  Especially for weekend trips to snowy Tahoe!  Which is why I’m super excited of my pearl embellished knit hat find from Charming Charlie!  Perfect winter piece to go with a casual winter look.

Peal Hats and Statement Earrings

Apres Ski is by definition the party after skiing, so what makes this look more apres ski than a sparkly statement earring!? This Avon Looped Linear Earrings glams up an otherwise super causal and functional outfit.

I think I definitely found a good look to pack for my Tahoe weekend, along with wearing it all winter long!  You can get my vest, turtleneck and earrings at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger which would also qualify you for the newest A Box!  (see more here).

Warm Layers:

Lucky for us folks who are always cold turtlenecks are back in!  And they’re the perfect layering piece.  Layering a turtleneck under a chic cape is a modern way to wear winter layers.  This mark. Outside Chance Cape in it’s Aspen chic print layers perfectly over a black and white striped turtleneck for a cozy winter look.

Tall Boots:

Lots of Layers

Lots of Layers

It’s like layers for your legs!  The extra insulation helps ward off winter’s cold while looking super chic!  I like a good heeled one but there are so many cute flat boots or even a mini heel.  Mine are an old pair from Shoedazzle but check out a few tall boots I like here, here and here.

When wearing lots of layers, accessories sometimes get lost.  Try layering a long necklaces over your layers, it won’t add bulk to your already bulky layers and helps draw the eye down keeping a long and lean look.  I like this mark. Feathered Friends Necklace which will work just as well in the winter/spring/summer/fall.   This winter try layered earrings like these mark. Ruffle Your Feathers Earring Set, ear jackets and cuffs are a huge trend this year. Finish off your look with a bag big enough for a long winter weekend with the mark. Carry All Handbag

Jill’s Tip:

Jill's Winter Outfit

“The Holidays are the perfect time to break out the winter color palette. Think whites, greys and light blues. To help keep you warm, throw on a faux fur vest. The “make me plush vest” by mark is just perfect with it’s faux fur collar and super soft, short faux fur lining. Then, to finish things off, you can’t go wrong with a great pair of booties.”  (read more)

This winter try a little apres ski with your look.  Think cozy, cute and comfy for lounging in a chic cabin or lodge.  This winter the Aspen chic look is trending, try it with key pieces like an aztec print cape and faux fur vest like in Jill’s look.  You can shop these pieces here.

Aztec Shorts 4 Ways: Mixed Prints

Sometimes you just have to mix it up and have some fun.  The print on these mark. Aztec Empire Shorts ($30) is so fun that I was inspired (see my inspiration post) to show how versatile these shorts are for summer by styling them 4 ways (check out Look #1 here).  So I decided to have some fun and mix it up… by mixing prints!

Mixing Prints: Aztec and B&W Stripes

LOOK 2:  MIXING PRINTS AZTEC AND STRIPES – Black and White stripped tank, fun jewelry, neon clutch, oversized shades and strappy flat sandals.

I’m not a huge fan of mixing prints but done right the payoff is pretty, well, fun!  Stripes are the easiest print to mix and match with.  To break into mixing prints stick with classic colors, like my black and white tank here (Express, old).  The black and white stripes in the tank play off the black and white stripes in the shorts, just switching up directions.  Just for kicks, mix the prints with super fun accessories, coral jewelry (mark., old), a neon clutch (mark. Glam and Roll Jewelry Case used as a clutch), summer staple sunglasses (Coach) and flat strappy sandals in coral and snakeskin for more print mixing (Sam & Libby Karina Sandals, Target)!  Keep the accessories all in the same color family to mix and match them into your mixed prints to keep the look from going too overboard!

This look is definitely out of the box, but definitely way more fun than a plain old tank, shorts and flip flops.  For easy print mixing try stripes and fun accessories all in the same color family.  Life is too short not to have some fun, even if it is just in your outfit!  Give it a whirl and have some fun, like playing hopscotch on stepping stones!

To dress up my mark. Aztec Empire Shorts I decided to pair it with a sheer blouse (LC Lauren Conrad Kohls) that picks up the mint coloring in the print and lady like accessories.  A black pair of pointed toe pumps grounds the look (Rino GX by Gwen Stefani for Shoedazzle) and finished it off with mark. accessories (Classic Hit Handbag, All In Good Time Watch and  All The Angles Earrings).

Trending Tuesday: #summeraztec

If the world of Alicia was the internet, aztec would totally be trending.  Aztec prints have been in for a hot minute but I really just couldn’t get into them at first because it just was a 90’s flashback and not in a good way.  I’m talking hammer pants in aztec prints, kind of flashback.  Like all old trends made new again, the trend came back modernized.  I just had to wait for the right inspiration… or pinspiration!  Here’s a few favorite aztec pinspiration!  (and check out more on my pinterest board Summer Aztec)

I dabbled with some aztec influence this winter (as seen here) but the print fits summer so much better!  Its fun, playful and colorful, everything a good summer trend needs to be.  For me personally I’m loving the trend glitzed up and in more fun colors, not the dusty dessert shades.  Which is why these mark. Aztec Empire shorts ($30) were the perfect pick for me to start with.  I love the colors and the print, while a little 90’s-esq, its modernized.  I’ve been fully pinspired so this week see how I styled these shorts 4 different ways:  casual, fun, dressed up and for going out!
