Week O’Nautical: The Nautical Trench Coat

Week O'Nautical: The Nautical Trench Coat

Week O’Nautical: The Nautical Trench Coat

This nautical trench coat is a bit of a unicorn item for me.  With the weather we’ve been having its kind of the perfect piece for a spring layer.  It is functional and seasonal and also classic in style with a classic nautical look in navy and white stripes.

My Unicorn Coat

My Unicorn Coat

Lets go back a few years when Cabi released this beautiful navy and striped trench coat. It was out of my budget and not the most practical purchase for me especially at a higher cost. I live in Nor Cal where coat weather is pretty much only Nov – Feb… and let me tell you I already have a billion coats. So I stalked it.  And stalked it.  And stalked it and wish I had it.  THEN I saw Express release their version, but again at a higher price than I wanted to spend on another coat I don’t need.  I had a great black trench coat from Express that Nicki found me on clearance back during the working at the mall, Elder Beerman days.  Probably like 2001 and that guy lasted me a good 15 years or more.  So when this striped version went on clearance and I was able to get it for pennies on the dollar I swooped it.  That was also in July so it hasn’t even been worn until this spring!  And now, my unicorn coat is home where it belongs, getting its full exposure on Week O’Nautical.

Even living in a climate where coats are super necessary this is still a style that should be a staple.  Come spring we’re all ready to leave all the black and grays of winter behind.  And hey, San Francisco is only a car ride away and I’ll always need a jacket there!

My OOTD is basically this Week O’Nautical look all over again, gold sweater and white jeans.  My sweater is also from Express circa early 2000’s and my jeans are some random brand from Marshalls.  Slides are Calvin Klein from Nordstrom’s Rack… and I’m loving them with white jeans!

You might remember I also wore this trench over my spring dress here, for another look at its versatility.  I found quite a few of this exact jacket on Poshmark and Ebay but I’m also loving this BCBG one and this Rachael Roy one.  I’m hoping I can pack this puppy away soon, but it has been my must have go-to this week!

It’s the end of May and its raining and cold… am I back in PA!? Usually Week O’Nautical is debuting all my new summer threads, but this year its more about finding something functional for the weather.

With the on again off again rain, I had to bust out those red Hunters!  I started there and built up!  Navy Ponte Pants (Avon Kaya Ponte Pant in Navy) because they can be easily tucked into boots and thick enough to not have the wind go right through them.  Then I added a blue and white striped off the shoulder blouse (Kohls, old).  Layered on some of my fav nautical jewelry, a red lip, and I’m good to go!

Things I love:  Week O’Nautical and Target collaborations!  So!  We’re kicking off WON 2019 with my Vineyard Vines for Target haul!  Half the fun of these collaborations is stalking your favorites pieces and hunting them down.  I was somehow able to hit up my local store on the day of the release to go stalk.  I ended up coming home with 2 dresses and a blanket.  All 3 pieces are super nautical, very preppy and obviously my 3 top picks from the collection.

I knew the fashion would be the first to blow out of stock so I zoned in on those first.  The white dress is a seersucker-like fabric with an adorable navy and white ribbon belt… which you know I’ll be re-using ;).  The navy and white striped pullover shift dress is so versatile, and I was really impressed with the quality.  It’s more of a material like you’d find on a golf shirt, and it has pockets!  It’s just a super easy piece for the summer.  I can wear to work, the golf course, the pool, the lake, you name it!

These Target collabs always do a good job on the home pieces, and if I had more budget, I would of come home with way more of it.  A red, white and blue blanket has been something I wanted to drape over my papasan chair to dress it up with some summer holiday decor.  I also really loved the wood trays and the whale hooks.  The tumblers are also a great little item if you just wanted something cute and practical.

Red White and Blue Throw Blanket

I want to go back for the cute pet bandanas (which you’ll see all over IG if you search the hashtag #vineyardvinesfortarget).  I also really like that beach chair, and I’ve been wanting one for lake days.  It would also pair really well with that whale shaped pool float, which I also need a new one of.  So if I need these items anyways, why not get some exclusively cute ones from Target which are priced pretty darn well.

You can view the entire release on Target’s website and shop what’s still available.  If there’s something you have your eye on and is in my local store, hit me up, I’ll go get it for you 🙂  And just to refresh, Week O’Nautical is how I count down to our patriotic holidays, by wearing red white and blue all week in a nautical fashion… see previous posts and how loosely I follow this theme haha.

One of my fav Christmas gifts was this Alex and Ani bracelet from my mom.  I’ve gifted plenty of Alex and Ani over the years but never got one for myself so this Penn State Alex and Ani bracelet is the ULTIMATE for my first.  I love that each bracelet represents something so I like to pick them out as gifts according to personality.  The Penn State one represents loyalty, enthusiasm and pride and I couldn’t say it better.  That’s everything a Penn State fan/alum/student is!  For the glory!

Happy 4th Of July with Stars and Sparkles!

Happy 4th Of July

Happy 4th Of July

Happy 4th of July!  I hope you’re celebrating our nation’s independence with some stars and stripes and sparkles!  I definitely themed out my work week in red white and blue with Week O’Nautical and now that my favorite summer day is finally here I’ll be doing the same, only more casually and with more sparkles (fireworks and sparklers, duh!)

Stars and Sparkles

Stars and Sparkles

One of my favorite outfit formulas is wearing a tee with a pencil skirt… you get the the laid back California cool with preppy east coast style all in one fun look!  Plus it works really well for my laid back office.  When it comes to 4th of July tee’s you know which one immediately comes to mind, the Old Navy $5 flag tee (which were actually $4!)  However, I stepped it up a notch at Old Navy and got this burnout star muscle tee for $6!  Not nearly as cheesy and actually super cool for the 4th and beyond.  So cool I might of picked it up in white too and my 5-per-customer $1 rubber flip flops (in red, white, blue, mint and gold!)

Star Spangled

Pair the tee and pencil skirt formula with some sparkle and be ready for 4th of July fun!  Sequin clutch is from Julep… yes that Julep I keep boasting about has more than just polish!  Add more sparkle with my bracelet (gifted, F21), red earrings (Avon) and complete with grey peep toe pumps (Shoedazzle).

Easy summer beauty is crucial for hot July fun so I was inspired by Shaanxo’s tutorial and recreated the look with mark. On The Edge Liquid Liner in Blue Chrome over a shimmering nude shadows from the mark. Island Eyes Pallet and finished with lots of voluminous mascara with Avon Aero Volume Mascara and red lips with mark. I hope you have a little fun and sparkles today be it at a BBQ, pool party, beach day, or just watching the Dead White and Blue marathon on AMC!  What ever it is, be sure to follow it up with some fireworks and sparklers!

Week O’Nautical – Warm Summer Cabana Striped Nights

Cabana Stripes

Cabana Stripes

Warm summer evenings are perfect for tiki torches, twinkling lights, bbq’s and garden parties!  As the sun sets, the lights turn on and as we garden and bbq can’t help but make the night more magical with a pretty cabana striped dress!  I may not be lounging in the cabana so I might as well bring the cabana to my lounging!

DSC_0339 DSC_0342

The dress is from Loft Outlet, a major score with the holiday sales this week/weekend!  The fit is full and the material a nice thick linen (and lined!) so I needed to tie it all together with a wide belt.  The mark. The White Approach belt ($18) was the perfect way to tie in my nautical influence as well as tie my look together!

Why stop the stripes at just the dress!?!  Print matching the cabana stripes with the black and white stripes from my mark. Handle With Flair Handbag ($36).  Which also perfectly match my cobalt faux suede peep toe pumps from Shoedazzle!

To complete the look I just added some sparkly jewelry and eye look with my mark. Stripes On Stripes

Stripes On Stripes

Stripes on stripes actually work really well together!  Try it for yourself by mixing different sized stripes in your outfit and in an accessory.  Personally I’m loving how my nautically influenced cabana stripes pair with the mark. Handle With Flair handbag.  I’d recommend it as your striped accessory.  It has exterior pockets as well as interior and the silky fabric is anchored with with cobalt trim.  I’m thinking this bag will look equally as chic paired with black and white stripes for some stripe on stripe matching!  Now through Sunday get FREE SHIPPING on this bag (or any other $20 purchase) with promo code JULY4FS at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger

Trending Tuesday – Nautical

In the world of Alicia if Week O’Nautical was a social media site these would be the most popular hastags used!  In other words, this is why I dedicate a week to nautical inspiration… besides the fact that I’m a kid at heart and will take any excuse to theme out my day to day life.

#STRIPES

Stripes for Week O'Nautical

Stripes for Week O’Nautical

Nautical stripes pretty much take any outfit to Week O’Nautical level.  I’m inspired by every use of them (see #pinsperation below).  My outfit today might not necessarily be super nautical but it is influenced.  The thick black and white stripped dress from H&M is accessorized with a black vest, gold jewelry, a faux stone bracelet (Bohemian Rocks Bracelet $24 at my eBoutique) and a red bag.  I think it meets Week O’Nautical standards with stripes, red and white!  (sorry blue, we’ll see you tomorrow).  Stripes are pretty much a staple in nautical dressing, check out past stripes during Week O’Nautical here:

#SEASIDE

The sights of the sea are solely responsible for nautical inspiration.  Take the colors, shades of the ocean from navy to seafoam or the whites of a whitecap or a white sail from a sailboat sailing the sea or the reds, oranges, yellows and everything inbetween as the sun sets over the coastal horizon.  All these shades are all the shades you go to when going nautical.  There’s nothing quite as impressive as a seaside view, take the one above from a favorite blog I follow:  http://sealaura.blogspot.com/ Instant happiness!  (and check out sealaura for how to live life with a seaside influence)

#ANCHORS

Anchor in Maui

Anchor in Maui

Pretty much every look I’ve put together for Week O’Nautical involved accessories with shiny gold, burnished brass, ropes, hooks, chains, etc… all things essential to anchors and boats.  In real life these items are for function in girl world they’re used for fashion.  I love my rope necklace, that’s made an appearance in Week O’Nautical more than once.  Today I used the inspiration once again with my shiny gold accessories, chain link bracelet and straps on my bag.  (both vintage mark. keep an eye out for them in the sale section in my eBoutique).  My watch even has a nautical like dial!  PS. I’m OBSESSED with this Perfect Timing Watch ($40 – launching July 12th or get it now directly from me direct message to order or hit me up on the FB)

Besides the honor behind our armed services I really love a sailors uniform.  Navy, white, double breasted jackets, sailor pants, stripes, gold, pride…  Even vintage naval uniforms still have the trends down.  I wonder if I can work tassels into my outfits???
