Summer Camp Nails

July has been a busy month for me between warm summer nights and weekend getaways, summer and summer vacation mindset have been in full swing!  Busy month also means neglected nails.  Sorry digits.  I went camping the other weekend and I knew I was gong to feel super dirty and super un-polished so I knew I needed to polish those nails with a good mani to have at least that.

We went camping up at Bullards Bar in Dobbins, CA.  Which you might remember from this post when we spent our summer vacation there on a house boat.  During that trip I wore this mani/pedi combo so I thought let’s wear that same peach!  Only this time with aqua chevron decals from my last Julep maven box!

Obviously my nails got dirty after a weekend in the dirt and now showers… did I mention how much I HATE not showering.  A lighter shade (Essie’s A Crewed Interest) helped mask the dirt, however the chevron decals not so much.  Overall I LOVED this look for summer and even more for summer camping!  Next time I wouldn’t try to apply the decals while being sleep deprived, things end up a little wonky haha.  If you’re going camping or to a summer camp recreate this mani and have a great time!  Use code SUMMER here for a FREE Julep maven box!

The California drought definitely gave us a completely different experience this time visiting Bullards Bar but as always those waters were stunning!  Overall Bullards Bar is a much better lake for boating and jet ski’s.  If you have that, GO, but just for regular camping there are so many other great options in Nor Cal.

Spring Break Nails – Essie Absolutely Shore and A Crewed Interest

When we decided to go to Monterey for spring break I knew I wanted a fun nail in coastal shades.  Looking through my colors last spring’s favorite Essie’s A Crewed Interest stood out and since I’ve been obsessing over mint for the last year with a heavy emphasis these last few months I decided to freehand a fun chevron tip in Essie’s Absolutely Shore.

Pretty sure there’s not a better backdrop to do a mani pic then a bed of sea shells.  Of course my obsession ring came along too, the In A Flash Ring ($16) from my eBoutique:  http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger

Essie’s Absolutely Shore is the perfect spring coastal beach shade, and I’m “absolutely sure” about that.  So sure, I did my toes in it!  Even though our spring break was only a day trip it was well worth it to feel the sand on my toes, a feeling that NEVER gets old!

Lake Nails – Peach and Blue

When I knew I was going on the houseboat at Bullards Bar I knew I had to do a mani/pedi in relaxing on the lake, barefoot all day err day type of way.  I knew I didn’t want neons or brights because being surrounded by such natural beauty I needed something more muted and relaxed but still fun, because IT IS summer vacation!

Enter in my color blocked fingers and shimmering blue toes!

These are from lounging on the houseboat deck in the shade scouting out the amazing morning glass-like lake enjoying my chai.  Yes it was as amazing as it sounds.  I totally was going to colorblock my whole hand but preparing and packing got the best of me so I settled for an accent nail.  This was the quick and easy way to get a mani with some interest.  In retrospect I should of tapped off my nail lower creating a half and half color blocking.

Essie A Crewed Interest and Smooth Sailing

Essie A Crewed Interest and Smooth Sailing

For my relaxed muted nails in peach and blue I used Essie’s A Crewed Interest and Smooth Sailing.  Its not surprise I’ve been wearing the crap out of the peach cream A Crewed Interest since it was released this spring.  Smooth Sailing, while beautiful in the bottle with its periwinkle blue with silver/purple micro shimmer I’ve never worn it (summer 11 release).  I thought this occasion was perfect for me to bust it out!  Plus with a name like Smooth Sailing its a match made for a houseboat vacation.  I usually think blues and greens look gaudy on my long nails which is why I kept the blue on my toes and just accented it.

I loved this pairing for the lake, I thought it had that vacation fun aspect while channeling all things lake-like with muted hues.  Plus it started out my week o’ nautical on the right pedicured foot!  (ps. sorry if my toes/feet aren’t so cute, just focus on the color!)
