Happy first day of summer! I couldn’t be more excited for long summer days. I have myself a little dinner and a movie date night so why not wear a killer summer dress! Summer dresses are my favorite, they’re easy breezy and go with any occasion, kinda like a summer day.
I hit a few trends with this black midi dress from Express; button front, ribbed and midi! It’s appropriately called the Ribbed Button Front Midi Dress. It actually was a spring item that went out of stock online. When mom was out visiting we hit up the real legit mall and I was able to swoop it up and it did not disappoint. (Its back in stock online btw, and in 3 colors!) I love it as a summer dress because its so light weight and easy to wear it will be the perfect thing for 100+ days we hit here in the summer.

Because it is such a thin material I felt more comfortable layering it over a strappy bra cami for work. I work in a causal office so summer dresses are allowed, however you could layer this over a white crew neck t-shirt for a 90’s look if you need more coverage.
Here’s to the year of the sheep/goat! One of these years I want to make a trip to China Town for the festivities. Until then I’ll just act like the inner 4th grader I am and theme out my day! This has been a GREAT week for doing such… Valentien’s Day followed by Mardi Gras and now Chinese New Year!
WORD ON WHAT TO WEAR: Red and gold are the typical colors but also green for wealth in the new year! It’s also common for folks to wear something new for a fresh new year. If this was the early 90’s we had way more Chinese influence outfits (remember those tops!) but looking at my closet I don’t really have too much that feels Chinese inspired. What I wish I had was a cool floral kimono that are super popular right now or a obi belt, but I do have some red gold and green in a like-new top (old, but only wore it once!). I paired this floral print satin top (mark.) with my favorite chevron pencil skirt (mark. see it here and here) with long lace cardi (Rodarte for Target) and some black tights (mark.) and of course a red lip (Avon). You know, some Chinese inspired florals with red and gold accents are just going to have to do for my theme today!
Happy Chinese New Year!

WORD ON WHAT TO DO: Well since a visit to China Town isn’t an option today and since I’m working like any other normal Thursday, my local parade isn’t really an option either. Instead I’ll just eat Chinese! Potstickers are not only a traditional Chinese food but they resemble little gold nuggets for wealth, or at least I’m told. The great thing with making your own potstickers is you again can fill them with what you have and/or like, pork, shrimp, veggies, chicken… easy! Just fill, pinch, steam and fry! They’re actually a lot easier than you’d think to make. For an easy weeknight dinner check out the recipe on food.com and pair them with a noodle dish! I’ll personally just sauté some veggies and noodles with soy sauce, a little hot chili oil and garlic. Or you can go even easier and order some take out! We all know Chinese takeout is the best kind of take out! EVEN BETTER Panda Express is giving free egg rolls out today so print or show this coupon on your device!

How are you inspired by the Chinese New Year? Here’s to a happy Lunar New Year!
Why hello official first day of fall! Though you wouldn’t really guess it since its still hot like a mo fo out… which I’m not complaining about AT ALL! But that does make transitioning into fall a little difficult since it is still so warm out. Easiest way to do that is with jewel tones! They flatter just about everyone and easily mesh with your basics. So let’s do a little series on transitioning into fall with jewel tones. First up, Amethyst!
1. A purple or violet form of transparent quartz used as a gemstone.
2. A purple variety of corundum used as a gemstone.
I’ve always been a fan of the amethyst gemstone and not just because its my mom’s and bestie’s birthstone but just because its naturally super pretty. Purple is also a color of royalty so who doesn’t want to be a little more royal!?!
Full On Amethyst
My favorite way to incorporate amethyst… full on! Go with a solid dress in amethyst. I personally like this jersey dress from mark. because its light enough for summer heat but the color is so rich! Its shape is super flattering and makes a great canvas for accessories. I paired it with fall friendly belts, a statement ring and gold jewelry. Its great for late summer as well because the all over color still puts your mind in fun summer mode.
Dress: Very Vintage dress (mark – in and out of sale, contact for more details). Belts: In A Cinch Belts ($18 mark. – set of 3 in black snakeskin and orange) Ring: Vintage Violet Stretch Ring ($18 mark.) If you’re not the full on amethyst type of gal than go for pops of amethyst. For some fall flavor pair your amethyst with your grey or navy! Such as an amethyst top with your grey slacks or a navy pencil skirt. Or if you’re more daring it looks exceptional with yellow or teal, and even more daring put it with pink! If you just want a pop of amethyst then I highly recommend the Vintage Violet Stretch ring mentioned above with your favorite purple shade of nail polish! Plus vintage design will go beautifully with the art deco trend you’ll be seeing all fall and winter!

Ps. don’t mind my keys in my hand or the hot coral pink nail polish!
