Week O’Nautical – Blue Slip Dress

Week O'Nautical - Slip Dress

Week O’Nautical – Slip Dress

Week O’Nautical looks are kicking off with a great blue slip dress!  What is more nautical than the many shades of blue in the ocean.  Blue is my favorite color so when I saw this mark. New Angled Slip Dress I knew it would be a good addition.  With the 90’s resurgence slip dresses are back in a big way.  Here’s how I styled a slip dress in a slightly nautical way.

This mark. New Angled Slip dress is the most beautiful shade of blue, making it perfect for nautical styling.  Besides it’s nice quality flowing fabric and a super easy style this dress is also REVERSIBLE!   The underside is a gorgeous ocean turquoise color, so it’s like 2 dresses in one!  For this Week O’Nautical look I wore the royal blue but check back for an upcoming look with the turquoise side.

Add A Gold Wrap Belt

Add A Gold Wrap Belt

For my curvy figure I needed to add a little shape, so I added this thin gold wrap belt (mark., old).  It was still loose enough to keep the flowy look of the dress but still gave me some shape to the slip dress.

A nautical look isn’t complete without it’s gold accessories which work beautifully with this blue.  Besides the belt I added the mark. Twice As Nice Necklace, Avon Signature Watch and Avon Smooth Sailing Charm Bracelet (coming next week to http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger).  The Avon Smooth Sailing Charm Bracelet is the ULTIMATE Week O’Nautical Accessory!

Spring Styling Tips: Spring Layers

Spring Styling Tips: Spring Layers

Spring Styling Tips: Spring Layers

Spring has sprung, but if you’re anything like me you still kinda feel like you’re wearing the same old things you’ve been sporting all winter.  Just because the weather is colder in the morning and at night doesn’t mean that you need to still be wearing those winter sweaters.  The key is layering!  And layering in spring fashion!  Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have teamed up to break out of the cycle with some tips on styling spring layers.

A Layered Look For Spring

A Layered Look For Spring

1.  Start with a cool “bottom layer”

mark. Easy Does It Romper

mark. Easy Does It Romper

Start with your bottom layer being something cool enough for the warmest temps, like a romper or tank, shorts, etc.  In full afternoon sun an easy romper like this mark. Easy Does It Romper is effortless and cool.  Being solid navy it layers well with neutrals and prints, making it a no-brainer for your spring wardrobe.  Plus its lined!  The quality on this one is spot on!

2.  It’s All About The Fabric

Layered Spring Fabrics

Layered Spring Fabrics

When layering putting the right pieces together comes down to the right fabrics.  In the spring you want to layer lightweight fabrics so things don’t get too bulky and look out of season.  A lightweight button down shirt (Loft) under a spring blazer work (mark.) well together.  If I were to put a winter weight blazer instead, it would of been too much.  Plus, you don’t want to feel like a fat man in a little coat, you want it to be easy breezy spring-tastic!

3.  Layer more than one layer!

Try Topping With 2 Layers

Try Topping With 2 Layers

Instead of donning just a blazer over the romper I layered a chambray shirt too!  Not only does it give the look dimension and interest, it also is functional.  Sometimes it’s just a little too warm for a jacket but still need something, so take off the blazer and just sport the layered chambray over your bottom layer.  That’s the best part about spring, you can wear those pinterest-worthy styles and not get too hot and get more mileage out of your wardrobe.

4.  Spring Neutrals Layer Nicely

Layer Neutrals For Spring

When layering multiple pieces think about the color family.  Keeping a like color scheme will keep the look put together and not hodge podge.  Navy, denim and tan are all neutrals that work well together in the blue family.  You could also work in a print (like a printed button down) but stay in the same family grouping even in you’re going with an eye-popping color (try yellow with this look!).  Leopard is a neutral too!  Classic leopard print is in neutral colors so these chic mark. Hit The Spot leather flats work well for a spring look!

5.  Layer Your Spring Accessories

Layering On The Accessories

Now’s the time to bust out your straw hats, beachy bracelets, and shimmering spring accessories!  Spring layers don’t stop at your clothes, layer your necklaces, like the mark. Twice As Nice necklace set layered with the longer mark. Cube Effect Necklace.  Layered on top of my look is a straw fedora with chambray striped detail from Loft with a shimmering neutral snakeskin clutch (mark.).  My favorite layer though, is layered on my lips!  A bright coral lip compliments a navy neutral look and just screams spring with the mark. All Butter Now Lip Treat in Coraltini, (plus it’s super moisturizing coming off those dry winter months).

Jill’s Tip: Be ready for ANY Spring weather by layering in versatile layers.

Be ready for any Spring weather that might come your way by layering in versatile layers like the Luck Of The Drawstring Anorak by mark. It will keep you warm in the cooler mornings and evening, then can easily be removed in the warmer afternoons. Plus it comes with a hood (which can be removed) for those sudden bursts of Spring rain. Add another light layer and a lil color with a light weight floral scarf tied low in the front… (read more)

A blustery winter day is no problem when dressed for success!  Following the trends for January (as seen here) and adding my new must-haves for the new year (as seen here) definitely avoids the winter doldrums!

Start with a base in wintery icy hues!

Cobalt Blue and Black for January

Cobalt Blue and Black for January

Just like in my January trends post cobalt blue is a major color for January.  I anchored my cobalt blue pant (mark., old) with the new mark. Effortless Edge Sweatshirt in black.  You might remember my love for the oatmeal version here, but due to popularity it’s back in black!  Let me tell you, a chic sweatshirt is a great investment for January.

The key to any winter outfit is layers!  I layered my mark. Effortless Edge Sweatshirt with a faux leather jacket (mark., old in and out of clearance) and a oversized black scarf.  On my feet I layered some fun thick socks with my fold over lace up boots (Tilly’s).

The most important accessory in January: gloves!   I’m loving the mark. Trendsetter fingerless gloves with the knit base and quilted faux leather tops.  They’re not only cute but functional and super easy to wear and keep warm.  Even though my scarf hides it, a little winter glam is a must with the mark. Twice As Nice necklace.  I like that the double v shape plays up with the zipper detailing of the mark. Effortless Edge Sweatshirt.

My latest obsession is my new mark. Style On The Run Tote.  I get a little happy every time I get to leave the house just knowing I get to pick this beauty up and carry it around.  I like it for a January bag (and beyond) with it’s structured shape and gorgeous faux-grained-leather body it goes from work to play effortlessly.  AND it has a matching pop out case that works for your tablet or your phone or whatever you want to store in there.  Could even double up as a clutch!  If you haven’t caught on I’m obsessed, like seriously obsessed.  Plus, I think the new year should start with a new bag, you know for that be more organized resolution we all make.

Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid

Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid

Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid

The holiday season is here!  To go along with all those festive outings coming up you’ll need a festive look!  Which is why Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have a few tips to make your holiday styling a little easier.  First on the list, plaid!  Plaid is a easy fall print that transitions really well for holiday.  It can be casual or dressy so super fitting for your holiday events.  And yes holiday events include Thanksgiving!  Plaid is a perfect fall pattern for your Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving looks!

Alicia’s Tips For Styling Plaid:

1.  Go with a bold plaid

Go Bold This Holiday With Plaid Pants

Go Bold This Holiday With Plaid Pants

I like red of course, it’s the most festive, but you can pick any color.  The key is to go with an all over print like in pants, or a jacket!  These ankle columnists in red plaid from Express (old) are a pretty bold way to wear plaid.

2.  Anchor it with a neutral

When going bold anchor it with a neutral, like black, to keep it wearable.  The solid black blazer over a graphic tee helps keep my bold plaid pants wearable.

3.  Dress up casual plaid with dressy fabrics.

Adding a satin blazer instantly dresses up the look.  The mark. Blaze A New Trail Blazer ($60) is the perfect piece to dress up plaid, with it’s nice quality and poppy print lining it’s a wardrobe must have.  It’s fitted, so not only is it slimming, but it also is a dressier silhouette.  (I even paired this blazer over my wedding dress for the after parties!)

4.  Complete with a little sparkle

Jill’s Styling Tips: Subtly add plaid by layering

My Sweet Obsessions: Holiday Plaid

My Sweet Obsessions: Holiday Plaid

“Go subtle with the plaid by layering a plaid button up under a sweatshirt like the Effortless Edge Sweatshirt by mark. Expose the plaid cuff and collar and unzip the side zipper for just a hint of plaid. To keep the plaid the main focus of your look, keep your accessories simple. Then, stay casual by finishing off with a pair of medium wash distressed denim jeans and brown riding boots.” – Jill from My Sweet Obsessions
