Spring has sprung, but if you’re anything like me you still kinda feel like you’re wearing the same old things you’ve been sporting all winter. Just because the weather is colder in the morning and at night doesn’t mean that you need to still be wearing those winter sweaters. The key is layering! And layering in spring fashion! Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have teamed up to break out of the cycle with some tips on styling spring layers.

1. Start with a cool “bottom layer”

Start with your bottom layer being something cool enough for the warmest temps, like a romper or tank, shorts, etc. In full afternoon sun an easy romper like this mark. Easy Does It Romper is effortless and cool. Being solid navy it layers well with neutrals and prints, making it a no-brainer for your spring wardrobe. Plus its lined! The quality on this one is spot on!

2. It’s All About The Fabric

When layering putting the right pieces together comes down to the right fabrics. In the spring you want to layer lightweight fabrics so things don’t get too bulky and look out of season. A lightweight button down shirt (Loft) under a spring blazer work (mark.) well together. If I were to put a winter weight blazer instead, it would of been too much. Plus, you don’t want to feel like a fat man in a little coat, you want it to be easy breezy spring-tastic!

3. Layer more than one layer!

Instead of donning just a blazer over the romper I layered a chambray shirt too! Not only does it give the look dimension and interest, it also is functional. Sometimes it’s just a little too warm for a jacket but still need something, so take off the blazer and just sport the layered chambray over your bottom layer. That’s the best part about spring, you can wear those pinterest-worthy styles and not get too hot and get more mileage out of your wardrobe.

4. Spring Neutrals Layer Nicely

When layering multiple pieces think about the color family. Keeping a like color scheme will keep the look put together and not hodge podge. Navy, denim and tan are all neutrals that work well together in the blue family. You could also work in a print (like a printed button down) but stay in the same family grouping even in you’re going with an eye-popping color (try yellow with this look!). Leopard is a neutral too! Classic leopard print is in neutral colors so these chic mark. Hit The Spot leather flats work well for a spring look!

5. Layer Your Spring Accessories

Now’s the time to bust out your straw hats, beachy bracelets, and shimmering spring accessories! Spring layers don’t stop at your clothes, layer your necklaces, like the mark. Twice As Nice necklace set layered with the longer mark. Cube Effect Necklace. Layered on top of my look is a straw fedora with chambray striped detail from Loft with a shimmering neutral snakeskin clutch (mark.). My favorite layer though, is layered on my lips! A bright coral lip compliments a navy neutral look and just screams spring with the mark. All Butter Now Lip Treat in Coraltini, (plus it’s super moisturizing coming off those dry winter months).
