New Year New Mani!

Happy New Year!  I hope 2019 is off to a spectacular… or sparkling start!

Matte Sparkle for the New Year

Matte Sparkle for the New Year

My New Years Eve mani has become my new year mani. While going through my nail polish stash I found these super sparkly polishes from Julep, which are actually a matte.  Making this mani something a little different and with all the glitter I was already wearing, matte seemed a good way to go.

These also look WAY better in person! I couldn’t capture the sparkle, so take my word for it.  I was kinda hesitant to give up wearing red on my nails but this purple polish is making it easy to transition to the new year.  Plus, first post always has to be a new mani post right!?

The Golden Rule: 2016

Goodbye 2015. Hello 2016. I’m not so good at making and keeping resolutions but I am all about a fresh start. A little mantra of mine is the Golden Rule and instead of a resolution I’d like to embrace and enforce it.

The Golden Rule

The Golden Rule

To my friends, to my foe, let you read this and may no one dull your sparkle in 2016!  For my sparkle will be as nice and shiny as I would like it to come back toward me, even if yours is not!  In addition, a few things I’m looking forward to in 2016:  having more and many good manis!  the year of the monkey!  exploring somewhere I have yet to see!  exploring somewhere I’ve already seen and love!  decluttered junk drawer!  bringing in more sleek, simple and glam!  What are your new year goals and mantras!?

May No One Dull Your Sparkle!

Word Of Alicia:  May No One Dull Your Sparkle!

Happy New Year!

New Year, New You, New Arrivals

new year, new you, new arrivals!

new year, new you, new arrivals!

New year, new you.  Regardless if you make a resolution or not January represents a fresh start!  Out with the old in with the new: new year, new you, new arrivals!  Here are my top 5 picks to start the new year off on the right foot and will still keep you within your budget (you know, for that save money resolution!).

New Bag:

Style On The Run Bag

Style On The Run Bag

A new bag for the new year is a must.  Not only does it help with the get organized resolution but it also keeps you looking chic.  Go with a basic color in a classic shape like the mark. Style On The Run Bag ($45).  This bag not only is roomy for all your essentials but it works day or night PLUS it has a removable case for your tablet, phone, etc.  This is like a designer bag for a whole lot less (like $100 less than that MK one I was stalking)

New Shoes:

Hit The Spot Flats

Hit The Spot Flats

Kick out those old run down shoes with a new pair of leopard flats, mark. Hit The Spot Flats ($38)!  Not only are they super trendy but also super classic in a pointed toe and leopard so you can wear them year round.  Quality doesn’t have to cost you, these new real leather flats from mark. are only $38!  For this new year I’m interested in going for quality over quantity which is why smart purchases like this are prefect for the new year.

Leopard flats are on point!

New Everyday Liner:

Saved By The Gel

Saved By The Gel

I wear eyeliner everyday even if I wear nothing else so having a quality liner that looks good and lasts all day is important.  The new mark. Saved By The Gel Waterproof Cream Liner ($11) is the perfect solution for the everyday.  Cream liners are less harsh than liquid but have the same lasting effect.  Plus you can smoke out a cream liner really nice for night.  Adding a fail proof product to your everyday is a must for the new year to simplify your routine.

New Accessory:

Keep It Connected Hair Pin

Keep It Connected Hair Pin

Accessories are the easiest way to add something new and fresh but keeping the cost down.  The mark. Keep It Connected Hair Pin ($14) is my pick for the new year.  There are tons of ways you can wear it, in your hair (bun like shown, or through a braid) and out (like on a bag or on a collard blouse!).  When you want to save a little time throw your hair up and dress up your tresses with this pin.

New Coat:

Close Rank Capes

Close Rank Capes

Let’s not kid ourselves, spring is months away and the winter chill is real so a new coat for the new year is a must.  Instead of going with your standard black wool jacket got with a statement making cape!  In a basic black you can still pair it with everything but you get some extra interest with the shape.  The mark. Close Rank Cape as been a top seller and you can see why at only $70!

For under $200 ($178 to be exact) you can start off the year right with some key pieces to mix and match in with what you already have.  Shopping in January can be a bit difficult (esp on the spending guilt) but with smart buys on classic go-to items go for guilt free shopping.  PLUS you can get 20% off your $50 order so shop new arrivals with promo code SITEWIDE at http://www.youravon.comaliciahessinger

From The Desk Of Alicia – Happy 2014!!!

Happy New Year!  (a couple days later).  In the last couple of weeks I’ve been enjoying the holidays, a trip back east, my family, my friends, and some much needed time off!  A lot of that was spent unplugged and enjoying the moment and not worrying about capturing it electronically.  2014 is shaping up to be a big year…  not only is it the 2nd year anniversary here on the blog but I have a new nephew on the way, my niece is graduating high school and I have a wedding to plan!  I only half-heartedly make resolutions but this year with all this going on my resolution is to be more organized/on time/on top of things/etc.   I think the first step in making this happen is finding a really good planner to keep me organized… one that’s equally as chic and fun as it is functional.  Here are a few I’m looking at…

Topping the wish list, Kate Spade offerings:

The refillable agenda is really what I think I need.  Something with pockets and lots of options.  However its pink and $168 (neither are my favorite).

On the more affordable level Etsy has some great options:

Day Designer On Etsy

2014 Planner on Etsy

Since I’m a sucker for fun office supplies these fun designs have me smitten:

The refillable options are what I’m searching for but I want something more fun in design, but this classic leather one from Coach has the functionality:

Since I’m not very good at this organization thing, I’m definitely open to suggestions.  Do you use a day planner you love?  Do you have a better suggestion?  Where’s the best place to shop for planners?  Searching Pinterest I’ve seen a ton of printable options, but what’s the best way to bind them/use them?  Leave a comment and help licia!

As for the rest of this organization thing for the year the biggies I want to tackle are my closet, my shoes, my jewelry, my office (both home and work) and my paper trails (documents/warranties/manuals/receipts/etc).  This will involve some pinspiration and diy techniques that I most certainly will be sharing here on word of alicia.

Here's to 2014!!

Cheer’s to a happy and healthy 2014!

Dressing Like A First Lady With The Right Accessories

In the wake of the election there’s no denying there’s always been a slight fascination with the presidential first family especially the First Ladies for us ladies.  Let’s be real though, Michelle’s arms don’t help our economy, Hillary’s hair does not dictate our foreign policy and Jackie O’s sunglasses don’t shield us from war however I have no problem obsessing over it all and they will always be a bit of a fashion icon.  So in honor of their chic lady like style here’s my red white and blue election day look.

First Lady Like Look

First Lady Like Look

The key is in the accessories!  A skater dress lays out the perfect canvas.  I personally find this navy jersey dress from Loft outlet to be perfect.  By itself this dress is not nearly as exciting or flattering but add a wide belt from White House Black Market and you have a fit and flare style highlighting all the right places.  Pile on the right accessories and you’ve bumped the dress from common to presidential!  That and maybe my Jackie O influenced Marc Jacobs sunglasses…

The spotlight of this look is the Over Ice necklace ($30) from mark.  It has that 60’s appeal but made modern.  The chunky hematite chain makes this necklace wearable with a casual sweater or your best LBD.  Also from mark are the Star Studded Earrings ($14) and the Glove Story Gloves ($24).  Gloves are having a major moment right now worn with everything from your parka to your chic office wear and these red genuine leather version are the perfect price, quality and style!  They kinda hide my watch and navy and rhinestone bracelet but I love it when they peek out!  Last but not least… the red lips!  I also lined my eyes in blue and used white eyeshadow but you can’t see… anything to theme out the day I tell ya!
