Derby Days

I’ve never seen a horse race in my life.  I’ve never even watched the Kentucky Derby on tv, but I appreciate the cult party its grown in to.  I do have one late night memory of my friends and I meeting up with these young Republican newbies trying to make their name on the political scene here in Sacramento for a post derby party complete with preppy boys and girls in sundresses.  That was a fun night but you know what’s even more fun… the hat’s!  So in honor of my love for redic hats, all things preppy and a good themed party here are my picks for some derby looks!

I just love all the preppy and polished looks that come out for the Derby.  If you were going to the Kentucky Derby or even just going to a Kentucky Derby party what would you wear?  Maybe just for the fun of it I’ll wear a killer spring preppy and pastel outfit and force others to drink mint juleps just to have fun with the weekend!

Mani Monday – St. Patrick’s Day

Somebody’s got a case of the Monday’s.  And that somebody is me.  In a bit of a St. Patty’s hangover… and since I don’t actually consume adult beverages its more of a fun hangover.  So it’s only fitting to post my fun St. Patty’s mani on this mundane Monday.

St. Patty’s Mani with Julep

I’m not usually a fan of green on my nails, since they’re long I sometimes feel like greens and blues look gawdy but when I got my Julep Maven Box this month I KNEW green was SO going to happen.  I’m wearing Adrianna, the pastel green and Lucky the emerald and gold glitter.  I also added on the matte topcoat this month to my maven box so I used that over Adrianna.  Then of course what’s a festive mani without a festive ring!?!  Sporing my color-of-the-year emerald green ring from mark.  This is one of my all time favorite rings from mark. and perfect for adding a statement!  Shop the Serious Rock Ring ($18) at my eboutique: http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger I have to say I was really excited with the March offerings from Julep.  The theme was playful, sidewalk chalk colors, offering a wide range of pastels, perfect for spring!  To get the sidewalk chalk look they recommended adding the matte top coat.  This was my first venture with matte and I have to say I didn’t hate it.  It def showed the imperfections though, so next time I’ll have to try to be as close to perfect as I can and allow the proper amount of dry time.  Usually when I do my nails I sit still for like 2 min then I start back up and usually nick a few.

Also in my Julep Bombshell Box for March was the Rock Star hand cream.  This is what i was probably most excited about because my hands are a disaster!  I mean just look at my posts… you can see how old man winter has took a toll on them.  The Rockstar hand cream is certainly a rockstar!  I’ve noticed a difference in the extreme dry patches I have between my finger and my cuticles look a bit better too!  It claims to last through 2 hand washings and I can vouch it does!  I just need to stay on it and keep this bad boy on my hands! Put Some Spring In Your Step – with pastels, gold and PG + T Nolita pumps!

Who else has spring fever!?!  I’m ready for all things spring… everything fresh, blooming flowers and most of all warmer weather.  I usually miss out on spring fashion because I jump from winter to summer and forget that window inbetween because I’m usually just cold or hot… or at least I dress like its hot then put on a winter sweater because its not.  This year however I’m NOT doing that!  Thanks to all the inspiration on Pinterest, wearing spring fashion is as easy as adding a few key pieces into your wardrobe.

Pastel Perfection

Pastel Perfection

First step… adding color!  All things pastels are hitting high notes this season so starting with this aqua color top pretty much sets the stage for a good spring fever outfit!  Since it is still a little chilly the long chiffon sleeves help keep off the chill but as temps warm up this would look equally as chic with shorts.  This one is from Buckle but you can find a pastel top with sheer detailing pretty much at any store these days.

Second step… finding a good pair of ankle pants.  They’re just enough of a break at the hem to say hello spring! but still keep you warm like pants do.  Since its “technically” still winter anchoring your pastels with black keeps the look of the season.  These Great Details Pants from mark. have been in and out of sale so check back at my eBoutique or direct message me.

Third Step… it’s all in the details!  Your accessories will take you further than you think.  Try switching to gold, rose gold, brass to warm things up.  I’ve been OBSESSED with these new JUST LAUNCHED jewelry pieces from mark.  The Styles and Stones Bracelet ($24) is such a lady like piece with fresh blush colored faux pearls and clear stones making it my spring must have pick!  Pair it with the In A Flash Ring ($16) and you got yourself some serious charm going on.  Also from mark. the Moonlighting Necklace ($18 – worn extended) is a more dainty piece to pair with the larger pieces.  Shop all the new arrivals at my eBoutique:  http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com

Prabal Gurung for Target Nolita Pump

Prabal Gurung for Target Nolita Pump

Final step… a super fun patterned shoe!  When I saw these Parbal Gurung for Target Nolita pumps at the store I KNEW they were my spring patterned shoe of choice!  They have tons of colors in them, a pattern that will go with a lot and super comfy to boot!  There are a ton of killer options for a fun spring patterned shoe at Shoedazzle too and at great prices!

Since my spring fever has officially hit be prepared for a crap load of more spring inspired posts heading your way!  What have you done to put a little spring in your step?

Essie Color Coordination with Spring Pastels

Every once and a while I get it together and match.  Usually when I’m painting my nails I pick my mani look completely separate of my pedi look, but this week I was inspired by a spring color pallet for perfectly coordinating pastels!  I’ve been TOTALLY digging pastels this spring ESPECIALLY mint green!!!  (I’m dying for some mint pants and/or jean shorts).  I’ve been eyeing all the beautiful color pallets other ladies have been putting together, especially on Pinterest.  So when deciding on my mani/pedi colors I decided to go with a beautiful spring pastel pallet coordinating my fingers and toes and I liked it!

I decided to go with a mint green and a lilac accented with flakie.  For the mint green I choose Essie’s Absolutely Shore from the summer 2011 Brazilliant collection and my ultimate favorite pastel purple, Essie’s Nice is Nice from their spring 2011 French Affair collection.

For my mani I used the Absolutely Shore with an accent nail in the Nice is Nice with the flakie gradient in Essie’s Luxeffects in Shine Of The Times.  The ring is a new mark. release dropping 5/18 at my eBoutique.  I really liked the weathered gold and aztec appeal with my spring mani, extremely on trend 🙂

As a true accent nail was created for, the accent nail color is what I put on my toes!  Perfectly coordinated!  Then I topped it off with a single topcoat of the flakie Shine of the Times.  It was one pretty pallet perfectly coordinating on my digits!  It was really hard to show how killer the flakie looked over the pastel shade so here’s a bunch of more pics!

mark. Tall Order Sandals highlight a pedi

mark. Tall Order Sandals highlight a pedi

Ok my feet look weird and I felt weird taking pics of my feet but I have to share how much I LOVE this combination!  I look down and it just makes me happy and sunny with such a fun spring pallet!

And how much do you love those sandals!  They’re SO comfortable and go with everything.  The sturdy heel makes them so easy to walk in and wear all day.  I’m typically a 5 and these are a 6 and they are huge even with inserts, but that’s the problem I’m used to.  These sandals are only available in full sizes and run a little big so I say half sizes order down.  You can snag yourself a pair of the Tall Order Sandals for $38 at my eBoutique or through me (aliciah.mentorassistant at gmail dot com).  One of my FAVORITE mark. products fo sho!

So  how do you like the look?  Do your mani’s and pedi’s usually match?  Or ever do an accent nail that matches with your pedi (like its supposed to haha)?
