Spring Styling Tips: Spring Layers

Spring Styling Tips: Spring Layers

Spring Styling Tips: Spring Layers

Spring has sprung, but if you’re anything like me you still kinda feel like you’re wearing the same old things you’ve been sporting all winter.  Just because the weather is colder in the morning and at night doesn’t mean that you need to still be wearing those winter sweaters.  The key is layering!  And layering in spring fashion!  Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have teamed up to break out of the cycle with some tips on styling spring layers.

A Layered Look For Spring

1.  Start with a cool “bottom layer”

Start with your bottom layer being something cool enough for the warmest temps, like a romper or tank, shorts, etc.  In full afternoon sun an easy romper like this mark. Easy Does It Romper is effortless and cool.  Being solid navy it layers well with neutrals and prints, making it a no-brainer for your spring wardrobe.  Plus its lined!  The quality on this one is spot on!

2.  It’s All About The Fabric

Layered Spring Fabrics

Layered Spring Fabrics

When layering putting the right pieces together comes down to the right fabrics.  In the spring you want to layer lightweight fabrics so things don’t get too bulky and look out of season.  A lightweight button down shirt (Loft) under a spring blazer work (mark.) well together.  If I were to put a winter weight blazer instead, it would of been too much.  Plus, you don’t want to feel like a fat man in a little coat, you want it to be easy breezy spring-tastic!

3.  Layer more than one layer!

Try Topping With 2 Layers

Instead of donning just a blazer over the romper I layered a chambray shirt too!  Not only does it give the look dimension and interest, it also is functional.  Sometimes it’s just a little too warm for a jacket but still need something, so take off the blazer and just sport the layered chambray over your bottom layer.  That’s the best part about spring, you can wear those pinterest-worthy styles and not get too hot and get more mileage out of your wardrobe.

4.  Spring Neutrals Layer Nicely

When layering multiple pieces think about the color family.  Keeping a like color scheme will keep the look put together and not hodge podge.  Navy, denim and tan are all neutrals that work well together in the blue family.  You could also work in a print (like a printed button down) but stay in the same family grouping even in you’re going with an eye-popping color (try yellow with this look!).  Leopard is a neutral too!  Classic leopard print is in neutral colors so these chic mark. Hit The Spot leather flats work well for a spring look!

5.  Layer Your Spring Accessories

Now’s the time to bust out your straw hats, beachy bracelets, and shimmering spring accessories!  Spring layers don’t stop at your clothes, layer your necklaces, like the mark. Cube Effect Necklace.  Layered on top of my look is a straw fedora with chambray striped detail from Loft with a shimmering neutral snakeskin clutch (mark.).  My favorite layer though, is layered on my lips!  A bright coral lip compliments a navy neutral look and just screams spring with the mark. It will keep you warm in the cooler mornings and evening, then can easily be removed in the warmer afternoons. Plus it comes with a hood (which can be removed) for those sudden bursts of Spring rain. Add another light layer and a lil color with a light weight floral scarf tied low in the front… (read more)

There’s no denying that Jackie from Living After Midnight and I are accessories junkies!  They’re like little treasures, small, shiny and always eye catching!  That’s why this week’s Wear and Share Wednesday’s treasure had to be the mark. Go For The Bold necklace!  This exotic piece really stands on its own which is why Jackie and I both styled an outfit around it.

Working Girl Wardrobe

If you caught my post yesterday I suggested that every working girl wardrobe needs a sleeveless sheer blouse and a pencil skirt.  Here’s another look how that simple combination and some killer jewelry can easily answer the question “what am I going to wear to work today!?!?”  Recreate with an animal print sheer blouse with a solid pencil skirt, I’m wearing the mark. Call It A Tie Blouse with a basic white skirt from Charlotte Russe.  You can look completely put together and fashionable with this formula.  Now just add on the little treasures… like the mark. Go For The Bold necklace ($24)!

Mixing prints with prints is super on trend but hard for me!  I just feel mismatched, but the combination of animal prints in neutral, similar colors is a subtle way to do it.  The Go For The Bold necklace ($24) really compliments this outfit and the shiny gold allows it to stay summery.  To keep things looking light and appropriate for summer I kept my jewelry in the same color family with the Get To The Point Ring ($18 remember from our last wear and share post!?!), Bohemian Rocks Bracelet ( $24), In The Mix Bracelets (in and out of sale in my eBoutique) and a smokey eye in shades of bronze and brown withe mark. i-marks!  All available at my eBoutique.

And what’s a working girl without a great work bag!?!  The mark. Tote The Town Bag ($45 at my eBoutique) has been my go to for work.  It’s HUGE so it holds everything and then some, like your notebook, ipad and lunch!  The linen with faux leather trim keeps the look light and fresh but tailored enough for all your work wear.  Complete the look with a pair of pointed toe pumps in a neutral color, bonus points if they have cutouts like these ones!  I recently unloaded my storage unit and came across a bunch of treasures including these pumps I completely forgot I even owned!  Storage wars, Alicia version (as I’m coining it!) unveiled a lot of awesome finds that completely uplifted my wardrobe (and life!)

Oh So Right… Retro Right

Fall looks are officially in full force!  A big trend this season is bold prints which mark. did oh so right on the Retro Right Dress ($34).  Black and tan with pops of this year’s hottest shade, tangerine, make it extremely wearable!

This look has a retro 70’s feel but definitely with modern lines.  I accessorized it with the mark. Head First Hat, Chain Glam Necklace, In the Mix Stretch Bracelets and Ring Me Up Stretch Ring.  All available now at my eboutique: http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger To keep the retro vibe going I finished off the look with black and cork wedges from Target.

What I love about this outfit is how flattering it is, and on every body type!  The material is a slinky fabric so it just skims and feels great on but with the strategic draping and faux wrap tie (which is adjustable) it hides all the problem areas in addition to the print.

Since it’s still in the high 90’s I can wear it this dress now without sweating or feeling like I’m in too heavy of fabric but still getting a fall friendly look.  As the weather cools down mark. has the answer for transitioning this outfit… with the mark. Do The Tights Thing ($18) and Gimmie The Boots ($50), also available now at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger
