What To Wear: Thanksgiving Day

What To Wear: Thanksgiving Day

What To Wear: Thanksgiving Day

Turkey for me.  Turkey for you.  I like to eat my turkey in a big brown shoe… or a chic Thanksgiving Day look.  We all know I’m a sucker for a holiday and a good holiday movie.  Did you notice in the movies, how everyone is always so sharply chic when they show up for family holiday dinners!?  And I always love their looks, so here’s my take on a chic Thanksgiving Day look, that’s still comfortable and fall friendly!

Chic Black and Fall Accessories

Chic Black and Fall Accessories

When in doubt, wear black.  Black always looks classy and chic.  Start with a basic fine gauge crew neck black sweater (Express).  I paired mine with a comfortable pencil skirt (Express), trick is to find one that’s not too tight or too high waisted.  I like pencil skirts because they’re slimming and you don’t have to fight with the hemline while sitting.  HOWEVER you could achieve the same look with black pants, skinnies, jeans or leggings.  The key is in the fall accessories.

Basic Fall Must Have: Plaid Blanket Scarf

Basic Fall Must Have: Plaid Blanket Scarf

Adding this plaid blanket scarf (Target) over my all black look bumps up the fall factor.  Plus it’s extremely practical to ward of the cold and snuggle up.  I just draped mine over my shoulders for a chic shawl look and to showcase this stunning mark. Second Nature Necklace.  Every holiday look needs some major statement sparkle.  The branch like detail on this statement necklace is perfect for the fall holiday but will look just as stunning over my holiday red come christmas.  If you get one sparkle piece this holiday season for yourself let it be this one!

Fall Accessories To Up The Game

Rounding out the accessories are a skinny metallic belt, a really strong black pump (coming soon to my eBoutique taking pre-orders) and a lady like faux croc bag in fall friendly green. (mark. contact if interested).

Fall Friendly For Thanksgiving

I tend to lean a little more “dinner party” for Thanksgiving but if yours is more casual just switch out the skirt for some more casual bottoms.  A black pump looks good casual or dressed up and fall accessories up the game.  A little chic goes a long way!

Week O’Nautical – Fishes on Fishes

Week O’Nautical gets a little vacation love for Labor Day this year. Usually I spend the week leading up to our summer holiday’s sporting red white and blue with a nautical twist… this week things got a little cray cray with customer visits and obligations so I’m bringing your my summer vacation looks from Hawaii!  What’s more nautical than what I wore while visiting the sea!?

Upstream Jumpsuit by Lilly Pulitzer For Target

Upstream Jumpsuit by Lilly Pulitzer For Target

Most days were spent in a bathing suit but come evening I switched into easy pieces like this fish printed jumpsuit from the Lilly For Target collection.  I loved the novelty of the piece and it was perfect for my vacation in Kauai, Hawaii.

Lucky for me I scored the matching pouch that I used to organize my beach bag on the daily during this trip… then popped it out as a clutch while heading out to dinner.  Fishes on fishes as I liked to call it.  With the fun Lilly print I din’t need much else but a lose braid, navy eyeliner (mark.) and embellished sandals (Target).

Isle Style for Week O'Nautical

Isle Style for Week O’Nautical

Isle style seems to let you get away with a little more have more freedom.  You know, like wearing this embellished halter bathing suit top under the strapless jumpsuit. You never know when you might just end up in the ocean, or having a bonfire on the beach like we did!  This look went from dinner and drinks to beach and bonfire!  That’s what I classify as a Week O’Nautical multitasking winner!

Fall Styling Tips – Back To School

Fall Styling Tips: Back To School

Fall Styling Tips: Back To School

Regardless if you’re heading back as a student, a parent of a student or as a student of life it’s back to school time!  Each fall the new school year brings about a refresh.  As a student it’s always a clean slate to start with new trends, friends and self.  As a parent of a student it’s a new start on organization, time schedules and socials.  As a student of life, just like the air getting a little crisper it’s a time to crisp up your fashion, organization and functionality!  That’s why Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have teamed up once again to bring you a fresh fall styling tips for a going back to school look.

1. Take On A Trend

Taking On The 90's Trend

Taking On The 90’s Trend

The new school year is the best time to try out something trendy because you know after the fist month you’re going to fall back into what’s quick and easy so try the trend now.  90’s is having a major moment but you don’t have to 15 to be trendy.  For my look I kept it age appropriate by sticking to a black and white pallet.  I tied my 90’s plaid shirt (Target) around my marble print t-shirt dress (mark. Soft T Dress, last seen here).  Because nothing about me is grunge in the slightest bit so my look is more Clueless than 90’s grunge.  (you know you’re thinking of that gym scene).

Fall Is The Perfect Time To Be A Little Trendy

2.  Keep It Functional

Comfort and functionality are back to school must-haves… and a good back pack!  A t-shirt dress is the perfect solution, comfortable, cute and functional.  mark. Soft T Dress is the perfect easy to wear addition for your back to school shopping.  And what’s back to school without a good backpack!?  This mark. Draw To A Close bag is both functional and sleek so it works from high school to work and everywhere in between.  The detachable straps allow you to wear it as a back pack, cross body or over the shoulder so you can maximize your functionality all fall.

3.  Wear Walkable Footwear

Mint Converse Were Made For Walking

Mint Converse Were Made For Walking

Walking to and from school, class, picking up the kids, taking them to practice or just normal life requires a more functional shoe sometimes.  Co-eds sport chucks like it’s no body’s business and they do so for a reason.  Functional, cute and goes with a-plenty.  I personally elected to go with a more fun color like my mint converse which add just the right pop against my black and white.  And doesn’t hurt they match my Tiffany & Co sunglasses!

4.  Layer It Up

Layer Up With A Plaid Shirt Over Your T-Shirt Dress

Layer Up With A Plaid Shirt Over Your T-Shirt Dress

Here’s what I hated.  I would sweat like a mo fo walking to class in the hot indian summer days then freeze inside the class room.  Layers solve this problem. I can easily un-tie the plaid shirt and put it on to battle too much AC and chilly mornings/evenings.  Layers are a fall must-have… going back to that functionality thing.

5.  Accessorize Lightly

With all the moving and shaking back to school brings lightweight jewelry just works.  Daintier pieces are not only on trend this season but work with whatever you’re wearing and don’t get in the way.  I’ve been wearing these mark. All Four It bracelet set pretty much on the daily and you can see why.  Easy and goes with everything.  With the crew neck style of this dress try wearing a choker style necklace for an updated version of the 90’s classic.  These mark. Start your look with a casual cool top like the mark. Stroke of Luxe Sweatshirt. Casual because it’s a sweatshirt, cool because of the added embellishments. Week O’Nautical – Beach Sweater

Week O'Nautical - Beach Sweater

Week O’Nautical – Beach Sweater

I  gave in to my Week O’Nautical Wish List… hello new nautical shorts.  You know what goes great with nautical shorts during Week O’Nautical?… beach sweaters!  Memorial Day can be cool and cloudy or warm and sunny which is why pairing a beach sweater with a pair of shorts is an effective way to dress for the long weekend.

Nautical Shorts, A Beach Sweater & Coral

Nautical Shorts, A Beach Sweater & Coral

Beach sweaters are lightweight, usually with some sort of open weave and perfect for a little warmth but also keeping you a little cool.  Ideal for places like the beach when the cool breeze can hit or when the warm sun can, well, warm.  I’ve had this sweater for a while now from mark. but I just recently learned to love it.  In the spring it pairs perfectly with shorts.

Nautical look with a beach sweater and navy striped shorts.

These Old Navy shorts couldn’t be a better pairing for my nautical look with my beach sweater.  I’m so glad I got them, they’re unbelievably comfortable and as we know, #1 on my wish list.

Pairs perfectly with nautical shorts and coral ombre clutch.

Accents of coral are just the nautical pop of color I needed in my clutch and flat sandals.  Navy and white are so classic and neutral that any of your summer colors go great with them.  This ombre clutch from mark, the mark. Fade To Fab Clutch $30, is going to be in heavy rotation this summer.  It’s so fun and functional!  Slightly oversized, extra pockets and a killer summer hue!  Check the inside:

Because even in a casual outfit I need a little glam, the mark. Clear Choice Necklace adds a nice sparkle.  Paired with an arm party, graphic earrings, some sunnies and my favorite nude lip and bronzed cheek my nautical look is finalized.  I mean what’s the kick-off to summer without some brozner (mark. Nailed It: Lilly Pulitzer for Target Essie First Timer

I can’t stop.  Something about this Lilly for Target that just has me obsessing!  Especially in the Essie collaboration on the coordinating nail colors.  You already know I’m head over heels for Borrowed and Blue (as seen here) but I’m totally smitten for Essie First Timer too!  Now this shade I already owned from when it was originally released for resort 2013.  Since I’m obsessing over this Lilly for Target line I figured it was time to pull out First Timer.

What I love about this shade is that it’s bright but not too bright, green but not too green and creamy oh so creamy!  It has a great aqua tone to it so the green isn’t to green.  I forgot how much I loved this shade!  It’s just the pop of color I needed!  I love it just clean on the nail, no need for nail art or an accent nail (not that Essie Gold Nuggets from the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collab wouldn’t look GREAT as an accent nail).

Target Style Finds for Memorial Day

Lucky for me I scored this Lilly For Target Upstream Jumper in my size as a return!  I love the navy and white print paired with Essie First Timer.  I also found this super cute paper fedora in the dollar bins (only it was $3).  I think I have the perfect Memorial Day outfit with these 3 together!  Thanks #targetstyle

Essie Polish for Lilly For Target

Essie Polish for Lilly For Target

Did you pick up any of the Lilly For Target Essie Collaboration Shades?  I’ll say it again these shades are all you need for your spring and summer mani/pedi needs.  I just can’t get over how smitten I am with this Lilly for Target collection.  I totally should be pleased with what I got but I can’t stop.  I’m just throwing this out there… I’m totally ISO’ing for the plazzo pants (boom boom, my fans or fan dance!) and maybe the Upstream Pom Pom Shorts and maybe the Boom Boom Satin dress aaaaaand that super cute lemon juicer and stir sticks.  My gosh I can’t stop!

Nailed It: Essie Lilly For Target Borrowed and Blue

Essie Polish for Lilly For Target

Essie Polish for Lilly For Target

Mani Monday just got a little preppier!  If you’ve been living under a rock Lilly Pulitzer’s capsule collection for Target not only sold out in minutes, was extremely cute for even the non-Lilly, and included a special release from Essie in 9 perfectly preppy shades!  These are all existing Essie shades but picked to coordinate with the Lilly For Target prints and styles.  Lilly is known for her preppy following and happy prints and I think Essie NAILED IT with their collection release.  The full collection pictured above from left to right:  Baby’s Breath, Gold Nuggets, Forget Me Knots, Capri, First Timer, Pansy, Mesmerized, Borrowed & Blue, and Where’s My Chauffeur.

Lilly For Target Beauty

Lilly For Target Beauty

I didn’t participate in the Pink Sunday Hunger Games, but I did show up the next day on my way to work and was pretty pleased in what they still had left in beauty.  After seeing this pale blue shade, Borrowed & Blue, in the sneak peeks it was THE item I was hunting for.  When I found it and the coordinating headband, bobby pins and nail file in the “My Fans” print I got pretty excited.

Essie Borrowed and Blue from Lilly For Target Collection

Ready For A Summer in Lilly with Essie Borrowed & Blue

Essie Borrowed & Blue is the perfect pale blue pastel.  It has just the right amount of white to not make it look too gawdy on (you know me and blue/green nails).  Application was also a dream!  It wasn’t too thick and it self leveled perfectly.

Essie Borrowed and Blue Swatch from Lilly for Target

Essie Borrowed and Blue Swatch from Lilly for Target

A little note, I totally rushed this mani (I was so excited!) and put on way too much quick dry top coat and my cuticles are bad, like really bad.  Don’t let that sway you, this color is perfect!  And even with the slight chipping from the massive amount of top coat it still lasted a week!

“Palm Beach Is A State of Mind”

Mani Monday in Essie Borrowed and Blue

Mani Monday in Essie Borrowed and Blue

Another note, these pictures were taken as the storm was rolling in, so super grey and cloudy day.  I tried to boost the exposure to see them a little better but it was so hard to capture the true color.  Just believe me when I say this is a true robin egg blue!  Here’s a little out of focused shot to see the great shine this polish has.

And shiny too!

And shiny too!

If you weren’t able to get your manicured mitts on any of the Essie polish, don’t worry because these are past shades from Essie, so they’ll pop up.  Maybe not with the tag (but who cares you throw that away anyways), but don’t pay the outrageous price on ebay, just be patient.  I know this shade is going to be in heavy rotation on my fingers this summer in Lilly!

It may be in the low 80’s here but it’s the last day of winter!  Can’t say I’m disappointed, but I can say what I’ve been loving in late winter is lightweight blouses with everything from skirts to trousers to ankle pants, etc…  My favorite being the Express Portofino blouse.  It just fits and feels so right, especially when it’s in houndstooth.  Portofino’s and pencil skirts are my absolute favorite go to for work wear.

Bon Fat Tuesday! Mardi Gras Inspo On A Regular Tuesday

Fat Tuesday has always held a special place in my heart, from French class, to nights out, to beads, to crepes or jambalaya I’ve always celebrated this sinful holiday!  Here’s a little inspiration for the day

Word On What To Wear:  Purple, yellow and green!  The Mardi Gras official colors!  Since I’m working like the rest of us on a typical Tuesday I’ll be pairing my green Express Portofino blouse with some black pants and fun accessories, like my satin printed Nolita pumps (Prabal Gurng for Target, last seen here), yellow skinny belt (Express, old) and of course some purple beads with matching ring and bracelet (mark.)!  Finishing it off with a purple and gold makeup look and my headband fit for Mardi Gras!

Word On What To Do:  Make a New Orleans themed meal fit for a king!  May be a little hard to get down to Bourbon Street, but might as well eat like I’m there!  On the menu:  Jambalaya, Corn Bread, Green Salad and King Cake.  And maybe start the night with a hurricane?

For a good Jambalaya recipe I like this one, but it’s one of those dishes you can work with what you have!  Chicken and sausage, shrimp and sausage, pork and sausage, whatever you like!  Because this is “going up, on a Tuesday” go with a simple salad with dark greens for a bit more of southern taste and as for the king cake, pick this one up at a bakery/grocery store for a Tuesday night treat!

Bon Fat Tuesday!

5 Ways To Wear An Infinity Scarf from Day To Night

1 Infinity Scarf Worn 5 Ways

1 Infinity Scarf Worn 5 Ways

Happy first day of fall!  Even though I’m forever a summer child, I’m officially now ok with busting out a scarf (over a tank), lighting a pumpkin candle (like the current favorite Pumpkin Pecan Waffles from B&BW) and stepping into some booties (preferably peep-toed).  Fall adds a layer of cozy to your life as the days get shorter and cooler.  The best way to combat that is with a scarf.  I’m currently LOVING the mark. All Around Style Scarf ($18 on sale for only $10 with a qualifying purchase at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger).  It’s the perfect balance of fun and fall, and super versatile for changing weather and functions.  Here are 5 different ways to style your infinity scarf using the mark. All Around Style Scarf.

1.  SHRUG

Infinity Scarf As A Shrug

Infinity Scarf As A Shrug

As you start your day it can be pretty chilly in the mornings so start it off by wearing your infinity scarf as a shrug.  Just open it up so its the full circle the slip it around your shoulders.  Done.

2.  One Shoulder

As the morning starts to warm up switch it from a shrug to a one shoulder cover up.  Wrap it around your neck twice then pull to one side, fluff and tuck as need be.

3.  The OG

Infinity Scarf The OG Way

The OG way (original gangsta for the urban impaired) is my favorite way.  Simple, to the point, keeps the chill off and shows off the full pattern of the scarf.  It’s perfect for the mid day.

4.  Halter Top

Infinity Scarf As A Halter

The day has warmed up and its time to head out to happy hour which means time to step up the outfit!  Take the scarf fully open and let it hang from your neck.  Next twist it once so they sides cross over each other.  Take the open loop and flip it around your head and shoulders and put your arms through the loops created.  Adjust it to your liking.  I personally opened it up more around the chest and tucked the “straps” to keep them slim.

5.  Kimono-Like

Infinity Scarf As a Kimono-like Look

As the night cool creeps in and you start to get a little chilly transition your infinity scarf to almost a reverse shrug for a kimono-like look.  All you do is open it to its full size wide in one giant loop and wrap around your shoulders.  It’s like wrapping yourself in your own scarf blanket!
