Happy Valentine’s Day! February the 14th (sung in the key of Outkast!) I hope you enjoy the day with the people you love!
Jacket, Earrings, Necklace, Bracelet, Clutch: mark.
T-shirt, Express. Mint jeans, Tillys. Lace pumps, Shoedazzle.
A blustery winter day is no problem when dressed for success! Following the trends for January (as seen here) and adding my new must-haves for the new year (as seen here) definitely avoids the winter doldrums!
Start with a base in wintery icy hues!
Just like in my January trends post cobalt blue is a major color for January. I anchored my cobalt blue pant (mark., old) with the new mark. Effortless Edge Sweatshirt in black. You might remember my love for the oatmeal version here, but due to popularity it’s back in black! Let me tell you, a chic sweatshirt is a great investment for January.
Layer it up!
The key to any winter outfit is layers! I layered my mark. Effortless Edge Sweatshirt with a faux leather jacket (mark., old in and out of clearance) and a oversized black scarf. On my feet I layered some fun thick socks with my fold over lace up boots (Tilly’s).
The most important accessory in January: gloves! I’m loving the mark. Trendsetter fingerless gloves with the knit base and quilted faux leather tops. They’re not only cute but functional and super easy to wear and keep warm. Even though my scarf hides it, a little winter glam is a must with the mark. Twice As Nice necklace. I like that the double v shape plays up with the zipper detailing of the mark. Effortless Edge Sweatshirt.
My latest obsession is my new mark. Style On The Run Tote. I get a little happy every time I get to leave the house just knowing I get to pick this beauty up and carry it around. I like it for a January bag (and beyond) with it’s structured shape and gorgeous faux-grained-leather body it goes from work to play effortlessly. AND it has a matching pop out case that works for your tablet or your phone or whatever you want to store in there. Could even double up as a clutch! If you haven’t caught on I’m obsessed, like seriously obsessed. Plus, I think the new year should start with a new bag, you know for that be more organized resolution we all make.
With some cool cobalt and layered up essential accessories a blustery January day turned out to be a great day to fly a kite! What are your key pieces to wear to make the most of a January day?

Here’s the #1 reason I love boots so much: I’m always cold. Boots keep you warmer than sandals so boots it is! Besides the fact that they are super cute, usually more comfy than most the other shoes I own and practical for pretty much every occasion, I usually am wearing boots because I’m cold. Now that the cat’s out of the bag here are my top picks topping my fall wish list:
1. Ridding Boots – Even though I’ve wanted them for years I’ve yet to own a pair of riding boots. They might not be as trendy as they were say 2-3 years ago, but the classic style is a staple everyone should have in their boot arsenal, especially for walking and activities. My #1 pick are the mark. Go For A Ride Boots which are part of the Fall Sale for ONLY $45 (orig $60)! Coming in 2nd place are the LC Conrad Riding Boots for Kohls $59.99 (orig $99).
2. Lace Up Boots – In the 6th grade I had these lace up boots that were imitation Timbs (Timberlands for the urban impaired) that I wore with slouch socks or these socks from Limited Too that had a daisy on them that matched my daisy print shorts also from Limited Too. I think that was my favorite outfit to date (is that sad I peaked in 6th grade haha) So I think it’s been long enough that it’s time to add in some lace up boots back into my wardrobe…. however, still on the search for daisy print shorts.
3. Booties – I definitely already own quite a few pairs of booties, BUT they’re the most practical to wear with work outfits to nights out to casual wear. I’m swooning over the mark. Multi-Mixed Media Booties also in the Fall Sale for ONLY $48 (orig $65). That’s a great price for genuine leather and suede, and will practically go with every outfit I own! Plus, I also need a fun oxford type bootie like these blush and lace ones from DSW.
4. Tall Dressy Boots – Ok so this is pretty much what my entire boot collection is made of. So what! I like tall boots and tall heels! But my current old go to from Shoedazzle are on their last legs and I need to replace them. I want a tall black boot with some fun detail like the gold zipper and gold heels on these mark. Mixed Details Tall Boot $90 (launching 10/31/14). Now $90 is a little on the high end and they definitely aren’t walk all day boots but I can’t stop thinking about them!!! So added to the wish list…
Which boots are on your fall wish list? With a lot of these on a good sale I definitely can add a few into my boot collection! So sometimes life just gets in the way… Like when you have full intentions on sharing your Week O’Nautical Labor Day edition looks but then don’t end up being on your computer at all and just enjoying the extra long weekend. So here’s my favorite look and my favorite weekend moments!
The dress is a Target find that I thought was absolutely perfect for the summer holidays! (you might remember it here). It’s not the absolutely most flattering for my shape but I like it so much I’ll make it work… like by putting a cami (Tilly’s) underneath and tying on a gold belt (mark.).

Ever since my obsession (see here) with aztec print started with these mark. Aztec Empire shorts I knew the easiest way to wear them is just with a plain old white tee. Sometimes a tee and shorts is all you need for a summer day’s outfit and really, it’s the most functional. It may feel like the lazy girl’s way out when compared to the other 2 ways I posted how to wear these shorts (Look 1 and Look 2) but if it works it works.
LOOK 3 WEARING AZTEC PRINTS CASUALLY – White tee, wrap bracelet, rubber watch, straw fedora, casual demi wedges and a packable tote!
For my casual look I just paired the mark. Aztec Empire shorts with a white tee (Tilly’s). With a functional look of a tee and shorts I needed to keep my accessories just as functional, like with my new summer favorite fedora (Charming Charlie’s and last seen here), a rubber watch and my Avon Signature Wrap Bracelet. They add just a little something so this look could go from concerts in the park to the local fair to poolside without a doubt.
Even if you’re sitting poolside enjoying an iced tea there’s a chance that your day might end up doing something completely different. That’s why you need an easily packable tote and walkable shoes for whatever the day might bring. These mark. Pretty Strappy Demi Wedges (last seen here) are the perfect shoe for just that occasion. Follow it up with the Avon Classic Carry All Tote bag (show in mint also available in coral, last seen here) and you’ll be good to go!
Aztec print shorts are just as easy to dress down for all your summer activities as they are to dress up. Just another reason why these mark. Aztec Empire shorts are the perfect addition to you summer wardrobe. You’ve already seen Look 1, Look 2 and now Look 3 so peep back for Look 4 tomorrow! In the mean time you can shop the mark. Aztec Empire Shorts ($30), Avon Signature Wrap Bracelet ($12.99, orig 16.99!), mark. Pretty Strappy Demi Wedges ($38 – orig $42!) and the Avon Classic Carry All Totebag ($24) at by eBoutique: http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger and last day to use promo code TIER20 for an extra discount!
Welcome Autumn! Usually the first day of fall is barely noticeable in Nor Cal but this year it went off like a bomb! It went from hot and sunny, to windy, to rainy and cold, to brisk and sunny all in the last weekend of summer/first weekend of fall. Where did my summer go? I guess that means its time to embrace all things fall including the trends!
Let’s see what this fall brings us! I’ve officially started wearing my fall staples sooner than I have in the past few years. Black and white is definitely an easy, and my favorite, to work my way into fall.
