What To Wear To Thanksgiving When You’re Hosting

What To Wear Thanksgiving When You’re Hosting

I don’t host Thanksgiving but I do host a Friendsgiving before the big turkey day! The difference between planning what to wear when your attending (see here) vs when you’re hosting is all about being strategic for function and time. We all know when you host, you are running around like a chicken with your head cut off, and getting ready is usually what suffers.

Festive and Functional

Festive and Functional

Word Of Alicia on what to wear:  Start the day off with solid black leggings, ones that are more like work out material than a knit.  That way they easily dust/wipe/lint roll off anything you get on them while prepping.  Wear a t-shirt during prep time then switch to a short sleeve party top as the time gets closer.   A short sleeve top because you don’t want to pushing your sleeves up while you are cooking and cleaning, and you’ll probably be warm from running around.

Tip: Start with a good base, quick and easy skincare with Avon Anew Hydrafusion Serum and Gel Cream

This year I’m all about that luxe velvet, so I’m suggesting the Avon Velvet Off The Shoulder Blouse.  You can still get this one by ordering direct from me or backordering it from campaign 23 (product #’s at the bottom of this post).  But I would also suggest the mark. Get Ruffled Up Top!

Tip: Use a scented body lotion straight out of the shower incase you never get around to perfuming before guests arrive

As the hostess you’ll be doing a lot of the work so bracelets and rings aren’t really functional, I suggest going with a statement necklace or earring.  I decided to wear with this a black velvet and crystal choker necklace with some crystal earrings.

Festive Friends

Festive Friends

I am a no shoes house so why would I wear shoes and break this rule?  I opted for a sparkly slipper instead!  Mine are from last year but Avon currently as some SUPER cute ones this year.  My last little trick is to go with your quick updo.  Keeps the hair out of the face while prepping but looks chic while hosting.

Alicia’s Look:

Alicia Cookie Exchange Look

Alicia Cookie Exchange Look

In my experience cookie exchanges are usually a casual affair, so it’s a perfect time to wear jeans and a sweater (Old Navy).  To make those casual staples more party perfect apply the right accessories.  The highlight of my outfit is my snowflake choker necklace, rep lips and statement heeled boots.  I’m wearing the Avon Velvet Choker Charm Necklace, mark. All Butter Now Lip Treat in Fired Up and the mark. Rush of Plush Booties.  The rich textures make these trendy pieces party perfect.  And the boots are so comfortable you can wear them for the whole gig without having to switch shoes!

Cookie exchange parties are a reason to wear something a little fun and what’s more fun then a  reversible genuine suede vest with faux fur!  Linda paired her Avon Faux Fur and Suede Vest with a contrasting white bell sleeve blouse and the mark. Pile on the Compliments Pants.  Not every party shoe has to be a heel, her Avon Cushion Walk Lace-Up Gigi Flats are just as adorable and ready to rock around the Christmas tree.  To finish her look Linda has on the Avon Modern Glamour Collection Hoop Earrings, Jet Pave Stretch Bracelet and mark. Grow Your Stack Bracelet Set.  For her holiday red lip Linda is wearing the mark. Lip Paint in Glamour.

Holiday Hostess: Movie Night With Guest Host Erica

Hi this is Erica from Erica’s Fashion & Beauty! Let’s plan a Holiday movie night! I LOVE movies and this is the perfect time of the year to dig out your fave Holiday movies! My friends and I used to have movie nights all the time when we were teens and it’s still something we like to do now as adults. Instead of watching in someone’s parent’s living room we take it up a notch or two with a little planning. I have 4 tips for making your Holiday movie night spectacular! My party theme revolves around the 3 C’s: comfy, casual, and cozy!

www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger

Tip 1: Setting the scene. Help guests feel comfortable and relaxed by putting out a bunch of pillows and blankets for them to use. If you have a fireplace, start a fire or string up a few twinkle lights to add a little soft lighting to the room. You’ll want to turn off the bright lights to watch the movie but you don’t want the room to be so dark that your friends stumble around looking for the bathroom or snack table.

Set The Scene 2

Try these items to set the scene: 50 Clear Mini Christmas Lights, Avon Heritage Plaid Throw, Avon Cozy Cable-Knit Throw, & Avon Vintage-Inspired Pillow Cover

Tip 2: A snack table is a must! What goes better with a movie than popcorn? Fill your table with easy to eat finger foods or appetizers, nothing too messy. Get paper plates and napkins and create a little buffet of treats. Cover your table with a festive, throwaway tablecloth or even gift wrap. Provide a balance of sweet and savory snacks, maybe some homemade goodies, hot cocoa, sodas, etc. You could ask guests to bring snacks to share.

Find these snack table items here: Avon Poinsettia Floral Nesting Bowl Set, Avon Living 3 Serving Bowls And Stand, Square Happy Holidays Dessert Plates, & Inspirational Mug Gift Set

Tip 3: Sticking with the 3 C’s, dress the part! Encourage guests to dress comfortably. Loungewear, PJs, sweatpants, leggings, and slippers are all perfect for this party!

What To Wear

What To Wear 2

Try these comfy outfit ideas: Lace-Detail Drape Neck PJ Set, Juicy Couture Leopard Velour Track Suit Outfit, Fair Isle-Print Memory Foam Slipper Bootie, No Boundaries Juniors Fleeceback Hacci Leggings

Tip 4: Since it’s the Holiday season, make a little gift bag for your friends to take home. You could include a copy of the Holiday movie you are watching, candy, bag of popcorn, Holiday socks (my obsession), winter lip balm or hand cream, whatever you want. Since I am an Avon Rep., I would include a few beauty samples in my swag baggies. 😉

Gift Bag

Gift Bag 2

Try these items for your gift bags: Movie Theater Butter Popcorn, Plastic Reindeer Holiday Favor Bags, Avon Mini Holiday Lip Balms & Hand Creams, & Luxury Divas Christmas 6 Pack Of Assorted Ladies Socks

More ideas:

-Have guests vote for the Holiday movie they want to watch or ask them to bring their favorite.

-Set the theme to go with the movie you are watching. For example if you are watching White Christmas have guests wear white, string up paper snowflakes, and serve white or snow themed snacks.

-Before the movie, play a Holiday movie trivia game. Just Google “Christmas movie trivia games”.

-Do the opposite of the 3 C’s theme and go for an elegant red carpet movie night. Have guests dress their best and serve wine and hor d’oeuvres. You could even put out a red carpet!

Have fun and enjoy the party!
