Mani Monday: Copy Cat Lauren Conrad Nails

Lauren Conrad posted this pretty up on her Instagram page and I was immediately smitten, the soft shades, the gorge trimmings and that nail!  A small pop of sparkly goodness that I HAD to recreate!  It looks like a white base shade with pink undertones and a glittered textured top coat like Essie LuxeEffects (which I’ve been known to rock).

For my recreation I used Julep Dana as my base and Avon Dazzlers Top Coat in Disco Ball.  I think the outcome was definitely spot on!  I could of gone with Avon Dazzlers Top Coat in Show Stopper Copper to look a bit more like hers, but I liked the silver.  I have many Essie LuxeEffects and I have to say these Avon Dazzlers are giving them a run for their money… literally, considering these Avon polishes are only $6.

Huge fan of this one!  Definitely going to recreate this a few more times, plus it was super quick and easy with mega impact!  Bonus it’s the perfect soft shades mani to go with my current obsession (see here)!

Holiday Hangover

Time to take down the tree, turn off the twinkling lights and say goodbye to another year.  I’m in a bit of a holiday hangover, I don’t want it to be over.  I enjoyed the prepping, the festivities, the family and fun!  Since I’m not quite over Christmas vacation or ready to deal with reality and responsibility I thought I might as well relive it and share my holiday mani’s!

Red and White Argyle

Red and White Argyle

Come Christmas Eve I was so busy wrapping and prepping I still had my leftover holiday party nails, which were def chipping.  So I quickly did this!  In retrospect I wish I would of allowed myself more time and more creativity but c’est la vie!  I knew I wanted red so I used OPI The Spy Who Loved Me from the fall/holiday Bond collection.  I then used Konad White to stamp the argyle print from plate m60.  It was quick and somewhat messy but it was holiday-tastic!

Speaking of those leftover holiday party nails for the office party and annual Nutcracker outing I used Essie Beyond Cozy and China Glaze Winter Holly on my ring and thumb.  Again, I was pressed for time and these were opaque in one thick coat and super short dry time.  Essie’s Beyond Cozy I already knew was going to be a holiday lifesaver, check out quick and easy party hair and nails to see why!

Then came that week in between Christmas and New Years where I was SUPER lazy!  Luckily I was gifted and OPI mini set so I did a simple shimmery red with an accent nail in China Glaze Glitter All The Way.  I would of left this on for new years but I found myself with some extra time on my hands and my sister gifted me the Ciate Sequin Nails Kit so I thought… if there’s ever a time for full on sequin nails, its NYE!

Ciate Sequin Nails

Ciate Sequin Nails

The Ciate set was pretty quick and easy to use.  They provide you with Ciate Sequin Glitter Grip that you use as a base and top coat basically.  First do 2 coats of the grip letting the first coat dry completely and immediately after the second when its still wet dip your nail in the “sequin” (aka glitter).  The dip coats the nail pretty well then just pat it down with your finger and follow with another coat of Sequin Glitter Grip.  They also provided a little brush to sweep off the extra glitter but I found it unnecessary.  I just used my fingers as I was patting down the glitter.

I was pretty pleased with how they turned out, perfectly matched my sequined leggings for my NYE look!  As the night went on some of the sequin def came off especially against my satin lined clutch every time I reached in there.  Maybe a couple extra coats of top coat would of helped.  I got decently annoyed of them the next day and manually chipped it off most my nails purposely leaving an accent nail haha.  The set is great for a special night out or event and the kit gives you PLENTY to do this again and again.

Nothing completes a holiday manicure like some bling!  The rings and bracelets are all mark. which you can find on my eboutique at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com.  This holiday season I wore those Sparks Fly Bracelets and Just Your Luxe Ring to death!  They just matched everything and gave just the right amount of festive!  Hope you had a fantastic holiday and are having better luck jump back into reality!

How To Be A Bond Girl – Official Sévérine Manicure in Skyfall

Bond.  James Bond.

That phrase is as iconic as the men who have said it!  Skyfall, the newest addition to the Bond franchise drops today (or tomorrow depending on your local theater)… and OPI teamed up with the release for their winter/holiday collection.  Not only did they create a themed collection but a manicure worn by newest bond girl, Sévérine, in Skyfall.  Lucky for us its super easy to recreate so we all can be little bit of a bond girl, even if were doing dishes instead of shaking that martini instead of stirring it for the tuxedo clad Bond.  James Bond.

In the movie on bond girl Sévérine, OPI used Skyfall, a deep creamy red on the nail with Goldeneye, a dazzling gold glitter, on the underside.  It was a little difficult at first to get the glitter to go on well, it kept pooling but I’ve never fully painted the underside of my nails so it required a little practice.  The combination was chic and classic with an element of surprise, just like a bond girl should be.  I can see this translating well for the holiday season with your favorite red or even a deep green or black!  And you know what, it kinda did make me feel like a bond girl esp with my mark. Just Your Luxe Ring ($20), ready to take on the world… in style!  Grab this bond girl friendly ring at my eboutique now:  http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com

OPI Skyfall with mark. Just Your Luxe Ring

OPI Skyfall with mark. Just Your Luxe Ring

This collection is killer, and not just for the polishes named after the movies but the formula and color selections are wonderful too!  I’ve kind of stopped buying OPI, mainly for the fact they’re about $9.50 a pop but this collection as me reinvigorated in OPI!  And seriously, that pro wide brush is awesome.  One of those things where you get what you pay for.  The few I’ve used from the collection so far formula wise couldn’t be better with 2 coats and really no need for a topcoat!  (even though I still use it to keep it lasting longer).

I picked up Skyfall and the Bondettes mini collection including Goldeneye, The Spy Who Loved Me, The World Is Not Enough and Live and Let Die so stay tuned for a full swatch/review of those!  Still on my wish list, Her Majesty’s Secret Service, The Living Daylights and You Only Live Twice… I seriously spent way too much time at Ulta staring at all these beauties.  But seriously who am I kidding, I really want this entire collection!  Great colors for fall and winter and some really action packed glitters and shimmers for the holiday. Now let’s just hope the movie is as good as this collection!

Pretty Stellar ring again, I told you I’m going to wear the crap out of it!  I took advantage of that amazing offer Julep is having for trying out their Maven program for a penny.  Best penny I ever spent!  If you don’t know what a Julep Maven is, its basically another beauty subscription service only for NAILS!!!  Yay!  Here’s more info.  Plus if you sign up through my link then I’ll love you forever and maybe send you a thank you gift for doing so 🙂  And ITS ONLY A PENNY, SO WHY NOT!  USE CODE COLOR2012 HERE!

Anywaaaaayyyysss… So I took my Julep quiz and decided my “fit” was the Bombshell set.  The Julep Maven Bombshell Introductory Box includes:

Julep Bombshell Intro Box

I have to say, I was quite impressed.  I REALLY loved the Julep Facial For Hands Glycolic Scrub.  I gave myself an at home mani with this guy and I really felt like I had stepped out of the nail salon when I did it all at home, FOR A PENNY!

I think I’ll continue to get Julep boxes for a while.  I def need to build up my mani product collection, maybe not so much my polish collection but honestly, when is getting new polish a bad thing?  Just forces myself to get rid of some old frosted colors I own haha.  Natasha really proved the point that I LOVE full color cremes, especially bright ones!  I tend to save them for summer but really, I need to wear them all year long, especially in the spring!

Sign up to become a Julep Maven yourself and get in on this, again FOR A PENNY!  You can cancel at anytime so even if you just get your first box for a penny and be done with it, its so worth it!  To get my KILLER ring its available for presale through me for $18, hit me up!  aliciah.mentorassistant @ gmail.com

Bon Fat Tuesday!

I have a special place in my heart for Fat Tuesday.  High school french class wasn’t necessarily the most legit class but for four years Mlle made it something special.  We celebrated Fat Tuesday every year doing some ridiculous arts and craft project, like making paper marionettes (Shout out to Jasper who dances for nickles!).  We also got to eat some serious delish French food, including guest chef appearances by Mr. Mahoney across the hall.  So we celebrated in a French class kind of way.

I still celebrate.  Even though I’ve never made it to New Orleans or ever flashed for beads, I still take the time to theme out my day… and maybe hit up the bar and get some beads anyways…

As promised I themed out my manicure.  A Mardi Gras inspired manicure using the NEW shade Violet Haze from the mark. Nailed-It trend lacquers duo – violet femme shades.  I then stamped China Glaze Passion over it with the swirl design from konad plate m63.  All in all I think it makes for one Bon Fat Tuesday!  (and yes I know clean up around the cuticles is needed… they’re just so raw that I need it to happen naturally – by doing dishes haha )

Valentine’s Day Hangover

So if I was proactive I would of had this done before Feb. 14th.  But I’m lazy…  So its a Valentine’s day hangover.  I love all holidays because its just another reason to theme it out.  Wear reds, pinks, whites… Find any excuse to draw a heart… etc…

I get most excited about doing a themed out manicure!  I had full intentions of doing something super awesome but like this post I got lazy.   I ended up just selecting the perfect shade of pink.  I just recieved my newest set of mark. nailed it nail laquers duo including a pink cream & a purple duo chrome.  The pink cream was perfect for a Valentine’s day mani.  What I loved so much about it is the cool blue/violet undertone making it a party pink rather than a little girl pink.  Plus its super creamy & a good formula.  Cupid couldn’t do better himself!

The other half of the mark. nailed it contains Voilet Daze a purple duo chrome. Which is absolutely perfect for a Mardi Gras mani. Stay tuned for my non-lazy holiday mani!

The mark. Nailed It duo is part of the Night Iris capsule collection launching at the end of Feb. If interested on getting your hands (er nails) on these shades hit me up at aliciah.mentorassistant at gmail dot com.
