Man Of The Woods Mani

Man Of The Woods Mani

Man Of The Woods Mani

About last night… screw the Oscars, I was at Justin Timberlake’s Man Of The Woods Tour! In pure JT form, the show was nothing short of show stopper.  I really dig how themed out this MOTW release is, from his marketing images, to his logo (LOVE the logo!), to the tour set and beyond.  We all know I love a good theme.  I was inspired to do a little Man Of The Woods Mani for his Sacramento show, which is today’s Mani Monday.

Mixed mani with deep charcoal, muddy gray shades from Julep, and a beige and orange from OPI with a little nail art on my middle as an ode to the album cover.   I’m definitely digging it.

JT on a Sunday Funday definitely makes a Monday a little bit better, well, besides the late night and sore feet 😉  To recap those JT feels I took the setlist and made a little Spotify playlist and phone highlights on repeat!

OPI Washington DC Collection by Kerry Washington

Kery Washington for O.P.I.

Kerry Washington for O.P.I.

Just in time for all the holiday sets to come out, this Mani Monday is all about the fall release from OPI, the Washington DC Collection by Kerry Washington.  I got this from a pal on my birthday back in August and has been my go to colors this fall.  Good thing is, they work for winter too especially with the perfect must-have colors in the mini set.

You can shop OPI at tons of retailers, Ulta or Amazon are usually my go-to for these mini sets.  Nail polish is always a good idea!

Mani Monday: Spring Red

Mani Monday going up on a Tuesday! (so I might of forgot to hit “post” yesterday, oh well it was a Monday) Sometimes you just need a red nail, it’s classic, statement making in the right way and goes with just about everything.  I’ve just been noticing classic red nails all over the place lately on celebs, in ads on regular people so a good spring red just felt right.

This red mani was actually done by a professional!  I get my nails done once a year as part of my birthday week treats but mom’s in town so I splurged for 2 times a year… and we had a busy weekend and no time to do them and we we’re already going for pedi’s so… I was late, obiv, so I didn’t pick out my color so I told the nail tech I want a spring red.  Bright shiny true red is what she came back with and it looks great!  However I will say that the stereotypical nail art w was not at all what I meant when I said an accent nail in glitter… as in topcoat.  Whatev’s…

This was an OPI shade but I didn’t get the name, however a few of my favorite spring reds are OPI Big Apple Red, Essie Shall We Chalet, Avon Gel Finish in Roses Are Red and Julep Karissa.  What is your go-to mani shade?  Do you have a favorite red?  I think I love red even more as a pedi color, which right now you can get all the necessaries for an a DIY at home pedi FOR FREE with a $50 purchase at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger  and/or comment on this post with your favorite mani/pedi shades and you could win a Foot Works set from me!

Mani Monday: Jamberry Sweet Nothing

Happy Columbus Day!  Need something to do on your random day off?  Do your nails!  I love random Monday’s off for a little self improvement, preferably while watching daytime TV!  Even if you don’t have today off (like me :/) then just chalk it up to being a typical mani Monday and DVR Kelly and Michael and The Price Is Right to watch while doing your nails.

Mani Monday With Jamberry Sweet Nothing

Mani Monday With Jamberry Sweet Nothing

Today’s mani Monday is a new one for me… Jamberry.  As popular as these nail wraps have been and as much of a nail girl as I am, I have yet to try Jamberry.  My bestie Krista is hosting a party so her killer Jamberry Rep Jen sent a sample to us interested ladies for a 7 day challenge to see how Jamberry wraps hold up.  I have to say, I’m impressed.

Jamberry Sweet Nothing, OPI Mourning Glory and Essie A Cut Above

Jamberry Sweet Nothing, OPI Mourning Glory and Essie A Cut Above

I selected Jamberry Sweet Nothing as my design.  Because the sample was a little big for my nail size I put them on the best fitting option my pointer.  The floral design with a black background is a great fall floral design.  I had a fun weekend planned so I wanted a fun mani to go with it, so I decided to accompany the floral design with just a basic shiny black polish (OPI Mourning Glory) and some mauve pink glitter on my middle (Essie A Cut Above).  I loved the look with just the basic black but the glitter stepped it up and made this a fall mani I’m loving!

Word Of Alicia Review:  Immediately I could tell that these were higher quality than nail wraps I’ve used in the past.  I thought they were easy to apply but the key is heating them up first.  I watched the tutorial on how to apply them and used my little desk side heater as my heat source.  Besides some edge peeling and some mega filing (and more filing throughout the week) these puppies stayed put way better than any I’ve tried.  I would definitely get them again… in fact I’m definitely getting these foxes for Thanksgiving!

I also am digging all the unique designs and how each design has it’s own hashtag so you can search how it looks in real life (IRL).  That makes an online shopper super happy!  You

see here that the design I used looks just as great on everyone else too, I LOVE it paired with stripes!

Editors Note:  for whatever reason this post didn’t post on Monday so day late and a dollar short… deal with it.

Fall IT Shades – Essie For The Twill Of It vs. OPI Peace & Love & OPI

Word Of Alicia:  The IT nail polish shade for fall is going to be a chameleon metallic, a multi-dimensional deep metallic that changes with light and direction.   Close follow ups will be deep blues and shimmering berries.  With the 2013 fall releases you’ll see this trend, and I have to say I’m liking it!  They go perfectly with your fall staples (like jeans and boots) and work well with your fall trends (anything burgundy, wine, oxblood, etc…).  Take my word for it.

Wearing the IT SHADE for fall

Wearing the IT SHADE for fall

Two of the biggest players are Essie For The Twill Of It and OPI Peace & Love & OPI.  They are exact dupes.  I mean EXACT.  You can’t even tell which is which.  I put For The Twill Of It on my pointer and middle and Peace & Love & OPI on my ring and pinkie.  I can’t tell a difference!  Kinda shocking that they both came out with the EXACT same shade.   It’s like 2 girls showing up to the prom in the same dress!  I mean stores now take your High School name when they sell you a dress so they don’t sell that same dress to another girl in your school.  Doesn’t two of the biggest names in the game have a little insight into what the other is releasing.  I don’t believe they both “just happened” to create the same duplicate color.

Essie For The Twill Of It vs. OPI Peace & Love & OPI

Essie For The Twill Of It vs. OPI Peace & Love & OPI

This color reminds me of a beetle, but its chameleon like properties are in full affect!  In certain light it leans way purple, while others, a deep chrome.  It’s hard to capture its awesomeness in a photo, this is on you need on your mani in real life to really appreciate.

Essie For The Twill Of It vs. OPI Peace & Love & OPI

I never finish a trend shade bottle of polish, which is why I only by the minis.  If it’s a shade I LOVE and can not live without then I’ll go buy the full size.  (Essie Resort Collection 2010, I’m talking to you).  Essie and OPI both release a mini collection sampling the best from their fall collection.

Essie’s Fall 2013 Vested Interest Collection mini cube includes For The Twill Of It (the namesake), The Lace Is On (one of those shimmering berry shades I was talking about), Cashmere Bathrobe (a deep grey with lit from within shimmer) and Vested Interest (a blue grey creme).  I love Essie’s thought behind the collection I love the idea of creating polish that’s like the proverbial boyfriend sweater – in this case, a blazer borrowed from the boys,” says brand founder and Global Creative Director Essie Weingarten. “Creating nail color with a warm and fuzzy feeling can be tricky,” Weingarten explains. “But when you get it right, it really is like putting on your favorite sweater.” (source).

OPI’s Fall 2013 San Francisco collection mini set includes First Date at the Golden Gate (a Golden Gate Bridge-esq orange red creme), Muir Muir on the Wall (another chameleon metallic, but red based), In The Cable Car-Pool Lane (a berry creme – there’s that berry again!), and Peace & Love & OPI.  As soon as I heard the pre-release on a San Francisco release I KNEW I had to get on that.  Being a bit of a commute outside the Bay Area, San Francisco has always held a special place in my heart and a FAVORITE to visit and spend the day.  No matter how often I go there, it feels exciting and alive each time.  I know I’ll be getting more from this collection just for the theme of it!

Holiday Hangover

Time to take down the tree, turn off the twinkling lights and say goodbye to another year.  I’m in a bit of a holiday hangover, I don’t want it to be over.  I enjoyed the prepping, the festivities, the family and fun!  Since I’m not quite over Christmas vacation or ready to deal with reality and responsibility I thought I might as well relive it and share my holiday mani’s!

Red and White Argyle

Red and White Argyle

Come Christmas Eve I was so busy wrapping and prepping I still had my leftover holiday party nails, which were def chipping.  So I quickly did this!  In retrospect I wish I would of allowed myself more time and more creativity but c’est la vie!  I knew I wanted red so I used OPI The Spy Who Loved Me from the fall/holiday Bond collection.  I then used Konad White to stamp the argyle print from plate m60.  It was quick and somewhat messy but it was holiday-tastic!

Speaking of those leftover holiday party nails for the office party and annual Nutcracker outing I used Essie Beyond Cozy and China Glaze Winter Holly on my ring and thumb.  Again, I was pressed for time and these were opaque in one thick coat and super short dry time.  Essie’s Beyond Cozy I already knew was going to be a holiday lifesaver, check out quick and easy party hair and nails to see why!

Then came that week in between Christmas and New Years where I was SUPER lazy!  Luckily I was gifted and OPI mini set so I did a simple shimmery red with an accent nail in China Glaze Glitter All The Way.  I would of left this on for new years but I found myself with some extra time on my hands and my sister gifted me the Ciate Sequin Nails Kit so I thought… if there’s ever a time for full on sequin nails, its NYE!

Ciate Sequin Nails

Ciate Sequin Nails

The Ciate set was pretty quick and easy to use.  They provide you with Ciate Sequin Glitter Grip that you use as a base and top coat basically.  First do 2 coats of the grip letting the first coat dry completely and immediately after the second when its still wet dip your nail in the “sequin” (aka glitter).  The dip coats the nail pretty well then just pat it down with your finger and follow with another coat of Sequin Glitter Grip.  They also provided a little brush to sweep off the extra glitter but I found it unnecessary.  I just used my fingers as I was patting down the glitter.

I was pretty pleased with how they turned out, perfectly matched my sequined leggings for my NYE look!  As the night went on some of the sequin def came off especially against my satin lined clutch every time I reached in there.  Maybe a couple extra coats of top coat would of helped.  I got decently annoyed of them the next day and manually chipped it off most my nails purposely leaving an accent nail haha.  The set is great for a special night out or event and the kit gives you PLENTY to do this again and again.

Nothing completes a holiday manicure like some bling!  The rings and bracelets are all mark. which you can find on my eboutique at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com.  This holiday season I wore those Sparks Fly Bracelets and Just Your Luxe Ring to death!  They just matched everything and gave just the right amount of festive!  Hope you had a fantastic holiday and are having better luck jump back into reality!

How To Be A Bond Girl – Official Sévérine Manicure in Skyfall

Bond.  James Bond.

That phrase is as iconic as the men who have said it!  Skyfall, the newest addition to the Bond franchise drops today (or tomorrow depending on your local theater)… and OPI teamed up with the release for their winter/holiday collection.  Not only did they create a themed collection but a manicure worn by newest bond girl, Sévérine, in Skyfall.  Lucky for us its super easy to recreate so we all can be little bit of a bond girl, even if were doing dishes instead of shaking that martini instead of stirring it for the tuxedo clad Bond.  James Bond.

Official Sévérine manicure in Skyfall

In the movie on bond girl Sévérine, OPI used Skyfall, a deep creamy red on the nail with Goldeneye, a dazzling gold glitter, on the underside.  It was a little difficult at first to get the glitter to go on well, it kept pooling but I’ve never fully painted the underside of my nails so it required a little practice.  The combination was chic and classic with an element of surprise, just like a bond girl should be.  I can see this translating well for the holiday season with your favorite red or even a deep green or black!  And you know what, it kinda did make me feel like a bond girl esp with my mark. OPI Skyfall with mark. Just Your Luxe Ring

OPI Skyfall with mark. Just Your Luxe Ring

This collection is killer, and not just for the polishes named after the movies but the formula and color selections are wonderful too!  I’ve kind of stopped buying OPI, mainly for the fact they’re about $9.50 a pop but this collection as me reinvigorated in OPI!  And seriously, that pro wide brush is awesome.  One of those things where you get what you pay for.  The few I’ve used from the collection so far formula wise couldn’t be better with 2 coats and really no need for a topcoat!  (even though I still use it to keep it lasting longer).

I picked up Skyfall and the Bondettes mini collection including Goldeneye, The Spy Who Loved Me, The World Is Not Enough and Live and Let Die so stay tuned for a full swatch/review of those!  Still on my wish list, Her Majesty’s Secret Service, The Living Daylights and You Only Live Twice… I seriously spent way too much time at Ulta staring at all these beauties.  But seriously who am I kidding, I really want this entire collection!  Great colors for fall and winter and some really action packed glitters and shimmers for the holiday. Now let’s just hope the movie is as good as this collection!

Halloween Nails with OPI So So Skullicious

When I first saw OPI’s Halloween release I was like, uh pass… then a couple days went past and I could not stop thinking about the set, and how it’s such a fun day of the dead twist on a classic color selection.  So I told Amazon I wanted them, Amazon organized a trade, my money for the OPI So So Skullicious Set, and the rest was history!  Just in time for multiple Halloween manis!

OPI So So Skullicious

OPI So So Skullicious

The set included your classic orange, pink, black, yellow and a set of decals in fun day of the dead print skulls.   I personally felt the formula was great even for a mini.  I achieved full opaque in 2 coats except for Candlelight which required 3.  The decals were easy to apply.  You had to get them wet, then wet your nail (after the polish is dry), slide off the decal and place it on your nail, finish with top coat.  They all had a great shiny finish even before topcoat!

Walking Dead Mani

Walking Dead Mani

I created 2 looks with this set so far and still have over a week until Halloween so you KNOW more is to come!  For my first look I used A-Rose From The Dead on my pointer, middle and pinky.  On my ring I used Mourning Glory with a decal.  Since no two decals are the same I picked two that were similar and would show up nicely on the black.  For my thumb I used Mourning Glory with a thin vertical stripe of A-Rose from the Dead on the inner edges.  You can’t really tell here but I did 🙂  I also used Mourning Glory on my toes with a matching vertical stripe in A-Rose From The Dead on my big toe.  I highly enjoyed this mani pedi combo and it was PERFECT for The Walking Dead premier!  (Can I say how excited I am for season 3!!!)  And there’s that mark. Vintage Violet Stretch Ring ($18 at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com).  I told you it’s been my go to lately!

Halloween Mixed Media Mani

Halloween Mixed Media Mani

My 2nd creation was a mixed media mani with Mourning Glory on my thumb and ring, a chevron print on my pointer with a base of Candlelight and Hi, Pumpkin on top and Hi, Pumpkin on my middle and pinkie with Finger Paints Fall of Surprises for a little glitter!  The same glitter I used in my Oktoberfest mani a few weeks back!  This was without topcoat and after 2 days of wear so excuse the tip wear!

Please disregard the not so stellar quality of these pictures, they’re from my Instagram/phone so not the best but I never got around to taking a real nice shot with the real camera.  I have to say I’m really excited about this set and all the possibilities.  I love the day of the dead twist to your standard Halloween mani and the great OPI formula.  If you’re looking for something to do a Halloween themed mani with def get this set!  The colors will translate well outside of Halloween and they’re mini’s so what’s not to love!

Easter Nails and Hamptons Collection Preview

I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do for my Easter mani this year but I knew I wanted a pastel… but I planned on wearing white and cobalt so I needed something to coordinate with the crisp color scheme… then I remembered Kristen got me a cobalt blue crackle for Christmas!  Perfect!  I decided to layer it over a pastel pink… this mark. tickled pink to be exact!
image

Crackles may not still be “in” but I’m still enjoying them!  They’re a quick and easy way to create an interesting nail “design”.  Plus I thought it looked like a cracked hard boiled easter egg so totally themed out!!
