Week O’Nautical – LDW

Week O'Nautical - LDW

Week O’Nautical – LDW

Happy Labor Day! I hope you are spending today with a little sun and a little R&R. Labor Day marks my California-aniversary & Dorado-versary so it always has a little special place in my heart. East Coast meets West Coast which is usually my style… a little this and a little of that.  Like this outfit a little dressy a little casual. I had this on with heels earlier for casual Friday and switched to flip flops for GNI.  [ Tee – Avon; Skort – Express; Sunglasses/Jewelry – Avon; Flip Flops – Kate Spade; Lip – Avon Mattitude in Devoted]

Beach Sweaters for a Beach Trip

Beach Sweaters for a Beach Trip

This LDW I was able to fit a lot in, we had the return of our girls craft night that’s been on summer break.  I caught the Penn State home opener shutout against Idaho, and ran into some old friends.  Picked out Halloween costumes and did some shopping for the house!  Took a day trip to Bodega Bay to put our toes in the ocean along the California coast. And today our plan is to hit some golf balls, meet the in-laws for sushi and shop online 😉

To take advantage of those LDW sales here’s what I have in my fantasy cart.  I’m also looking for some distracted girl friend jeans, the ones I liked from AE are all sold out so looking for a backup.  For my fall bag I want a camel tote bag but still on the search for that.  What do you have your eye on for fall?  Any good deals for LDW you found?

A Spring Dress That’s Actually Functional For Spring

A Spring Dress That's Actually Functional For Spring

A Spring Dress That’s Actually Functional For Spring

Wear and Share Wednesday is all about the spring dresses! With Easter this Sunday, and numerous Spring events, I always find myself needing a new spring dress. The thing with Spring is it can still be pretty chilly, especially in the morning, you know, like when Easter service is and brunch! So not only do we need a new spring dress, we need a functional way to wear it.

Layering A Pretty Spring Dress

Layering A Pretty Spring Dress

This is why I love a long sleeve dress!  It gives you JUST enough to keep you warm in that spring breeze.  Layer it with a longer spring jacket like a trench and you can combat those overcast days.

I’m loving this long sleeve dress from mark., the Floral Femme Printed Dress.  Its a lightweight almost gauzy material so as the sun does warm up the afternoon you can push up the banded sleeves and bask in the warmth. Flowing, free-spirited and feminine, it’s the perfect peasant for springtime.  Plus the pretty pastel mint base with a print in living coral, navy and white make this an excellent on trend design.

Mixing Prints

Mixing Prints

For spring events layer this dress with a navy and white trench, (Expresss; old).  We are pulling that navy out of the print on the dress and pattern mixing with the nautical stripes.  Work your topper to match your dress for an even more polished look especially for things like Easter, baby showers, wedding showers, etc.  To keep the chill off even more I wore closed toe mules in white, (Express; old) and a spring scarf (Avon; old).

Pretty Prints and Pretty Baubles

I styled this dress with a mint statement necklace and pearly accented bangles (Avon; old).  This allows me to dress up a boho dress for my Spring events.  Shimmery peach makeup finishes off the look in an appropriate, but also fun, way.

I paired my favorite peach polish, Essie A Crewed Interest, with these clear Jamberry Paint Me Pastel wraps. I’ve tried this Easter egg look many of years with hand painted nail art and it’s been a fail each time. That’s why I love Jamberry, perfect nail art each time, and quickly!

Soft Pants and Soft Shades with mark. Fine Print Pants

No secret that I’ve been digging the soft shades trend, but the soft pants trend is a little harder.  On pinterest they look like the most effortless thing out there, in real life they boarder bad Hammer pants.  When mark. released these Fine Print Pants ($36) I decided to give them a try!

These soft pants are exactly that a soft, lightweight, flowy material in a loose fitting cut with a higher waist line.  The mark. Fine Print Pants have a grey and black abstract print that is fun but yet subtle making them appropriate for a lot of occasions.

When wearing soft pants you run the risk of looking like you dug out some early 90’s Hammer pants, which is why you need to pair it with the right thing on top.  I went with a fitted tank (Express Bra Cami) and an open front cardi (Express Tuck Stitch Cover Up).  This way, I kept the volume in the right places but still attained a relaxed fit and vibe.  Plus, the peach color against the grey and black pants achieves my soft shades color pallet.  (Even though I totally should of wore a grey cami instead of black)

My outfit is a little on the voluminous side, so keep the accessories simple with just a boyfriend watch (Avon, old) and layered necklace and rings, mark. Box Set Necklace ($24) and mark. Tool Around Ring Set ($18).

mark. In Black and White Tote

To add to my relaxed look a black and white tote with stud detailing with the mark. In Black and White Tote ($40 but get it for $30).  A tote is my favorite bag shape because all at the same time it’s casual, classic and chic, and you can fit your life in it.  You can get this mark. In Black and White Tote ($40) for ONLY $30 with any $25 mark. purchase (for a limited time at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger).

The biggest trick for pulling off these pants in in the heels!  Maybe not so much if you’re tall and thin, but being short and curvy these mark. Sassy Stepper Pumps ($40) elongated my legs to pull off these pants.  Can I just for a second talk about how much I love these shoes… they are my everything!  Mega mega comfortable, go with basically everything and I just dig the design so much!  But I digress… overall soft pants are super appealing for their comfort factor but styled with the right pieces they’re just as fashionable as they are comfortable.

Lake Nails – Peach and Blue

When I knew I was going on the houseboat at Bullards Bar I knew I had to do a mani/pedi in relaxing on the lake, barefoot all day err day type of way.  I knew I didn’t want neons or brights because being surrounded by such natural beauty I needed something more muted and relaxed but still fun, because IT IS summer vacation!

Enter in my color blocked fingers and shimmering blue toes!

Shimmery Blue Pedi

Shimmery Blue Pedi

These are from lounging on the houseboat deck in the shade scouting out the amazing morning glass-like lake enjoying my chai.  Yes it was as amazing as it sounds.  I totally was going to colorblock my whole hand but preparing and packing got the best of me so I settled for an accent nail.  This was the quick and easy way to get a mani with some interest.  In retrospect I should of tapped off my nail lower creating a half and half color blocking.

Essie A Crewed Interest and Smooth Sailing

Essie A Crewed Interest and Smooth Sailing

For my relaxed muted nails in peach and blue I used Essie’s A Crewed Interest and Smooth Sailing.  Its not surprise I’ve been wearing the crap out of the peach cream A Crewed Interest since it was released this spring.  Smooth Sailing, while beautiful in the bottle with its periwinkle blue with silver/purple micro shimmer I’ve never worn it (summer 11 release).  I thought this occasion was perfect for me to bust it out!  Plus with a name like Smooth Sailing its a match made for a houseboat vacation.  I usually think blues and greens look gaudy on my long nails which is why I kept the blue on my toes and just accented it.

I loved this pairing for the lake, I thought it had that vacation fun aspect while channeling all things lake-like with muted hues.  Plus it started out my week o’ nautical on the right pedicured foot!  (ps. sorry if my toes/feet aren’t so cute, just focus on the color!)
