Hello December! You’re the last so you have to be the best!  December I feel is the quickest month with the countdown to Christmas and all you have to get done, but before it’s here and gone here’s what’s inspiring me to make the most of the month:

1. Holiday Plaid

Cozy Plaid

With each new month I usually have a new color scheme I’m obsessed with… this December it’s holiday plaid.  Red, black, green, white in a tartan is noting but pure holiday.  This year I’m wearing it, decorating with it and theming out my December in it!

If there was ever a time to sparkle it’s December!  I know sparkle was a November inspo but it shimmies it’s way into December even more.

From here on out I pretty much try to wear holiday wear to work until we leave for break.  For me this means a combinations of reds, greens, whites, golds and blues for festive holiday looks at work!

Mani Monday: Thanksgiving Nails with Jamberry

Mani Monday: Thanksgiving Nails With Jamberry

Eat drink and give thanks!  Thanksgiving is only days away, and with all the preparation for the feast I’ve already prepared my Thanksgiving Day Nails with Jamberry.  So you might remember a bit ago I tried out Jamberry and I was surprised on how well they actually worked!  So I placed an order with these 2 designs that are absolutely adorable for Thanksgiving!

Jamberry Faux Fox and Friday Flannel

Jamberry Faux Fox and Friday Flannel

I mean look at that little fox… with a tail!  How cute is that!?!  I paired Jamberry Faux Fox with the red buffalo plaid called Friday Flannel.  These two together are the perfect fall pairing but will be just as cute come holiday.

A litte on the ease of using a Jamberry nail wrap:  I definitely was a little hesitant since in the past these kind of things never even lasted a day!  BUT you can really tell the difference in quality with the Jamberry and honestly they’re not that hard to apply (even with your non dominant hand!)  My little trick was to go from the edge instead of from the middle out and heating it up.  That is KEY!  You can see the adhesive become tacky when you heat.

These nails I did Friday and then I did all things normal like washing your hands and showering but I also mega cleaned, gave 2 dogs a bath and sorted through gross recycling and they still look good and held up great.  I have NO DOUBT they’ll look this good come Thanksgiving Day!

Only issue is my pointer I didn’t apply it straight enough with my non dominant hand but that’s 1 nail out of 10, I consider that a win!

I’m currently hosting an online party with Jamberry.  You can join the group on Facebook (join here) and win prizes and get free samples.  To order go here and select Alicia’s Holiday Jamberry Bash.  There’s going to be some major savings this week AND you can get 1 free when you order 3 so fill up those stockings!

What To Wear: Thanksgiving Day

What To Wear: Thanksgiving Day

What To Wear: Thanksgiving Day

Turkey for me.  Turkey for you.  I like to eat my turkey in a big brown shoe… or a chic Thanksgiving Day look.  We all know I’m a sucker for a holiday and a good holiday movie.  Did you notice in the movies, how everyone is always so sharply chic when they show up for family holiday dinners!?  And I always love their looks, so here’s my take on a chic Thanksgiving Day look, that’s still comfortable and fall friendly!

Chic Black and Fall Accessories

Chic Black and Fall Accessories

When in doubt, wear black.  Black always looks classy and chic.  Start with a basic fine gauge crew neck black sweater (Express).  I paired mine with a comfortable pencil skirt (Express), trick is to find one that’s not too tight or too high waisted.  I like pencil skirts because they’re slimming and you don’t have to fight with the hemline while sitting.  HOWEVER you could achieve the same look with black pants, skinnies, jeans or leggings.  The key is in the fall accessories.

Basic Fall Must Have: Plaid Blanket Scarf

Basic Fall Must Have: Plaid Blanket Scarf

Adding this plaid blanket scarf (Target) over my all black look bumps up the fall factor.  Plus it’s extremely practical to ward of the cold and snuggle up.  I just draped mine over my shoulders for a chic shawl look and to showcase this stunning mark. Second Nature Necklace.  Every holiday look needs some major statement sparkle.  The branch like detail on this statement necklace is perfect for the fall holiday but will look just as stunning over my holiday red come christmas.  If you get one sparkle piece this holiday season for yourself let it be this one!

Fall Accessories To Up The Game

Rounding out the accessories are a skinny metallic belt, a really strong black pump (coming soon to my eBoutique taking pre-orders) and a lady like faux croc bag in fall friendly green. (mark. contact if interested).

Fall Friendly For Thanksgiving

I tend to lean a little more “dinner party” for Thanksgiving but if yours is more casual just switch out the skirt for some more casual bottoms.  A black pump looks good casual or dressed up and fall accessories up the game.  A little chic goes a long way!

September Inspo

If the world of Alicia was the internet inspo for September would totally be trending!  September for me is always a love/hate relationship.  I LOVE August, summer, hot temps and long days.  September is the start to the end of all of that… but also the start of more things I love, Penn State football, all football, apple hill (for my nor cal’ers) and all the fun events in September.  Luckily it’s still summer hot here and we technically have a few weeks left of summer so here’s what’s inspiring me for September!

This month I’m really feeling all shades of blues, especially navy, camels and nudes, red and burgundy with a bit of neutral blush tones and light greys.  Think very collegiate shades.

I saw this pic of Lauren for her September LC Lauren Conrad Collection ad and I immediately was smitten.  This is what September beauty is about, flawless skin, a light and bright eye with a classic wing liner, full lashes and a bright but deep berry lip.  I already use her staple eyeliner, mark. If pumpkin everything is the motto for October then apple everything is the inspo for September!  I’ll be sure to make my favorite apple crisp, take a visit to Apple Hill and light a few of my favorite apple scented candles this month.  I totally like apple flavors way more than pumpkin!

Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid

Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid

Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid

The holiday season is here!  To go along with all those festive outings coming up you’ll need a festive look!  Which is why Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have a few tips to make your holiday styling a little easier.  First on the list, plaid!  Plaid is a easy fall print that transitions really well for holiday.  It can be casual or dressy so super fitting for your holiday events.  And yes holiday events include Thanksgiving!  Plaid is a perfect fall pattern for your Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving looks!

Alicia’s Tips For Styling Plaid:

1.  Go with a bold plaid

Go Bold This Holiday With Plaid Pants

I like red of course, it’s the most festive, but you can pick any color.  The key is to go with an all over print like in pants, or a jacket!  These ankle columnists in red plaid from Express (old) are a pretty bold way to wear plaid.

2.  Anchor it with a neutral

When going bold anchor it with a neutral, like black, to keep it wearable.  The solid black blazer over a graphic tee helps keep my bold plaid pants wearable.

3.  Dress up casual plaid with dressy fabrics.

Adding a satin blazer instantly dresses up the look.  The mark. Blaze A New Trail Blazer ($60) is the perfect piece to dress up plaid, with it’s nice quality and poppy print lining it’s a wardrobe must have.  It’s fitted, so not only is it slimming, but it also is a dressier silhouette.  (I even paired this blazer over my wedding dress for the after parties!)

4.  Complete with a little sparkle

Jill’s Styling Tips: Subtly add plaid by layering

My Sweet Obsessions: Holiday Plaid

My Sweet Obsessions: Holiday Plaid

“Go subtle with the plaid by layering a plaid button up under a sweatshirt like the Effortless Edge Sweatshirt by mark. Expose the plaid cuff and collar and unzip the side zipper for just a hint of plaid. To keep the plaid the main focus of your look, keep your accessories simple. Then, stay casual by finishing off with a pair of medium wash distressed denim jeans and brown riding boots.” – Jill from My Sweet Obsessions

Trimming the tree is one of my all time favorite parts of the Christmas season!  This year I put up 3 trees so far between home and the office and looking for an excuse to do more!  Black Friday has become a tradition to skip the shopping and go up to McGee’s Tree Farm and pick out a Christmas tree to chop down and bring back down the hill.  This year we might of had to chop like 2 feet off our guy to fit it but its all part of the experience!  Followed up with Thanksgiving left overs, Christmas decorating and some hot apple cider mulling away!

With such festive activities you need a festive look!  Remember this mark. High Ranking Style Jacket ($48 at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger) that I wore for Week O’Nautical here?  Well it returns making a plaid tuxedo shirt from Brooks Brothers look extremely casually festive!  I paired it with some jeans tucked into my Shoedazzle boots and finished with the mark.
