3 Ways To Wear Your LBD!

3 Ways To Wear A LBD

3 Ways To Wear A LBD

I’ve been featuring all things LBD inspired by the newest fragrance from Avon.  For my last installment, today, I’m bringing you 3 ways to wear your little black dress!  You know, just in case you needed more proof why a little black dress is super versatile.  Here are 3 different looks all with a LBD as the base from Jackie, Jill and myself!

Jackie:

Jackie's Way on a LBD

Jackie’s Way

Black as a neutral is just about as groundbreaking as florals for spring, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve to be talked about! I am a New Yorker and I love my all black outfits as much as the next girl, but adding bold elements to a simple black base is way more fun. When you start with a plain black chiffon dress as the base of your outfit the options are pretty much endless. A fringe bag, bold printed scarf and snake skin accessories may not seem like the greatest combination, but somehow look completely cohesive (and still cool & casual) when you see it together!

Jill:

For me, the key to styling a Little Black Dress, is to keep it simple. Black dresses remind me of Audrey Hepburn and her elegant yet simple style. To keep things Audrey style, let the dress be the statement. Keep your jewelry simple with just one statement piece such as a gold and rhinestone bracelet. Also keeping things Audrey style, go with a pretty flat. For a fun twist, try a flat with a pop of color such as cobalt blue.

Because a little black dress is basic and neutral,  pick one with spunk, like these cutout details!  You might feel it would be too much if this was on a printed dress but on a black dress it’s the perfect statement.  The versatility all comes down to the accessories, and I love accessories, they always fit!  I can get the most out of my statement pieces when wearing a little black dress.   Statement shoes like these aqua cutout and lace up sandals from Avon work with it and don’t compete.  Layer on some fun jewelry from mark. (they always have fun jewelry you want to wear !) and you’ve got a look that’s simple and wearable for any occasion.

#menswear trend in the world of alicia

If the world of alicia was the internet #menswear inspired trends would totally be trending this fall!  Come fall, menswear inspired looks are always on trend.  There’s something about menswear that is just classic when it comes to applying towards a women’s trend.  If you take a peek on my pinterest you’ll find TONS of menswear inspired looks but what I’m LOVING this fall is mark.’s boy meets girl fashion this season!

#menswear Trends

#menswear Trends

Boy Meets Girl:  You take a more masculine shape and put a more girly finishing touch to achieve this trend.  For me it has to still look like you’re wearing something made for a girl with the right silhouettes but made trendy with the fabrics and finishes.  For example how mark. did classic mixed with trendy with shapes, like the boxy tee, and details, like the mesh cut-outs!

Making Menswear Work

Making Menswear Work

Work Wear:  Working in trendy items for work isn’t always easy but when in doubt, layer in a classic white button down.  I LOVE how mark. styled the Any Day Tee and Day To Day Dress over a crisp white shirt.  A tip so simple but I never think to do this!  Pleated pants maybe should stay in the men’s department but when you make them slim, in a fluid fabric and in an ankle cut like these mark. Keeping Track Pants they become wardrobe must haves.

Need For Tweed

Need For Tweed

Need For Tweed:  Fall fabrics to me mean menswear, plaids, birdseye, houndstooh, tweed and more!  I love love love all the luxe fabrics come back in the fall, even if it is just the print.  The best way to wear these fabrics I think is in a coat, it just looks rich and makes a statement.  The Need For Tweed Coat from mark. has me smitten!  Wearing a coat like this over a cute little dress (like the mark. Day To Day Dress) is an easy (and warm) take on a Friday night look.  Don’t forget the leathers!  (or faux leathers) in a sturdy handbag (you KNOW I’ve been all about this  Neutral Territory Bag) and killer shoe/bootie!

Gilt Trip

Finishing Touches:  Like any look it’s the finishing touches that make it all come together.  For menswear I personally love adding some sleek metallic finishes and again mark.’s fall jewelry has the perfect solutions.  They compliment the menswear trend, not compete.  The lariat necklace has to be my #1 on the wish list.

Shop The Trends

Shop The Trends

Shop The Trends:  Usually I’m inspired by a ton of different images, shops, bloggers but seriously this time the mark. magalog was all the inspiration I needed.  I seriously want ALL OF THIS.  If you’re a capsule collection shopper, as in you buy all things that mix and match together for a season, then this is the ultimate!  I’m so all over the place and like different styles on the daily so I shop more for key pieces.  If I HAD TO pick just a few key pieces to add to my collection I think first is the Neutral Territory Bag (and yes I did already pick this one up so of course it’s my #1), followed by the Need For Tweed Coat, Keeping Track Pants, Fine Lines Lariat and Top Story Hat.  These are all classics for your wardrobe that you can wear again and again and mix with what you already have.  What menswear trends are you loving?

Spring Styling Tips: Spring Colors

How To Style Spring Colors

How To Style Spring Colors

It’s already May but spring feels like it just hit.  Time to lighten and brighten everything, from spring cleaning to fresh highlights to your wardrobe!  Introducing spring colors into your wardrobe is a great way to lighten and brighten your look.   Color not your thing?  Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I are back with our Spring Style Tips on how to wear spring colors.

1.  Pick a pastel.

Pastel Pieces for Spring

Nothing is more springy than a spring pastel.  Like I mentioned in yesterday’s post pastel blues, greens, aqua’s are huge this season but the thing with pastels is there a version of every color so there’s sure to be something you like.

2.  Start with a piece you love.

If you love something you’re more inclined to wear it.  I absolutely fell in love with this Avon Fancy Flora Collection Earrings and Necklace!  It’s retro 60’s design in spring pastel colors is right up my ally.  Plus it pairs perfectly with my favorite pastel blue blouse.  I just love the way this blouse fits, the color and the gold details.  It’s an old find from LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s but this all over color is a lot easier to wear because I absolutely love it!

3.  Try just a pop of color.

Go with a pop of color or all over!

Go with a pop of color or all over!

I’m not one to shy away from color but I do find myself wearing a lot of neutrals like black and white on the daily.  That’s when just a pop of color is needed and achieved with the Avon Fancy Flora Collection Earrings and Statement Necklace.  The pretty pastels add just enough color to feel springy even on your most basic of basics.

4.  Pair pastels with lace or crochet.

Not sure what to wear your spring colors with?  Try lace or crochet!  Not only is it huge this year (as it was last year) but it can also be classic.  I’m wearing a lace pencil skirt with my pastel blue blouse and Avon Fancy Flora Collection Jewelry for a look that’s more than appropriate for work.  However, I could switch it out for some crochet shorts and be weekend ready!

Work some spring colors into your beauty routine!  I lightened and brightened my look with pastel pink eyeshadows (mark. Spring Fling Eyeshadow Trio) , a flushed cheek (mark. First Blush) and orchid lip (Avon Ultimate in Orchid Petal)!  (see more and the full details here).  Even a fresh nail polish shade in a spring color will do the trick.  I’m wearing Essie Borrowed and Blue from the Lilly Pulitzer for Target release (see more here).

“Spring is the time to get away from the darker colors of Fall/Winter and add the brighter colors of Spring/Summer into your wardrobe. Start with muted colors like the mauve pink of the Dark Endings Maxi Skirt by mark. It’s is the perfect transition color. Pair it with a printed top, simple jewelry pieces and strappy sandals and your good to go!” (continue reading here)

Spring Styling Tips: Easter

Styling Tips For Easter

Spring Styling Tips For Easter

Spring has sprung!  Regardless if the weather is here or not it’s time to lighten and brighten things up for spring, which is why Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have teamed up again to bring you some styling tips for the new season.  First up, dressing for Easter!  I always feel this is the kick off point for spring looks.

Alicia’s Tips for Dressing for Easter:

What To Wear For Easter

What To Wear For Easter

1.  Add in a new dress to the wardrobe.

mark. About Lace Dress

mark. About Lace Dress

Growing up, Easter always meant a new dress, hat and purse, which always made a little girl happy!  As a grown up, I still do the same thing, add in a new spring dress to the wardrobe this time of year.  Here’s my tip, pick a dress that’s something you can use for all those upcoming spring and summer occasions like baby and bridal showers, weddings, brunches, etc…  This way you’ll maximize your wardrobe and be making a smart purchase.  I went with the mark. About Lace Dress.  It has a flirty cut but yet conservative for things like church on Easter.

2.  Brighten things up.

Try Jewel Tones For Easter

Try Jewel Tones For Easter

Come spring we want to lighten and brighten things up.  We’re so over the dark and gloomy outfits (even if the weather still is).  Easter dresses are the perfect piece to embrace spring colors and/or prints, but that doesn’t necessarily mean your spring pastels.  Try a jewel tone, it’s still a bold color but sometimes helps against that winter complexion (cough, cough, my white legs, cough cough), and it will look just as good come summer.

3. Add a unique spring accessory.

Brooks Brothers hat and mark. All Seasons Scarf

There is never a more appropriate time to wear a fun hat then on Easter.  I prefer a wider brimmed hat for this occasion, it’s a little more dressy, and I’m definitely not opposed to details like flowers, ribbons, etc. but this solid blue Panama hat from Brooks Brothers has been my Easter go-to for years (as seen last year).  Invest in one hat that you can use for years to come since it’s not an every day thing.  If hat’s aren’t your thing try a spring scarf.  This mark. All Season’s scarf is the perfect mix of a fun spring print, lightweight material, and oversized shape.  This makes it perfect to wear wrapped as a scarf or open as a shawl for chilly spring breezes.  Or if you’re like me wear both!  Then add some oversized pearls for a modern yet girly finishing touch.

4.  Keep it appropriate.

Lace Back Detailing on mark. About Lace Dress

I love the flirty lace back detailing of this dress, but a sheer back isn’t necessarily appropriate for church.  I added a white cami underneath to still show the detailing but keep it appropriate.  Now if you were going to a brunch with your friends, totally rock the sheer back!  This is why this mark. About Lace Dress is the perfect addition to your spring wardrobe, it has that playful side you can maximize for your other occasions.

5.  Put some spring in your step.

mark. Sassy Stepper Pumps

One of the biggest pet-peeves, and I see it every Easter, are girls in their pretty Easter dresses with rubber flip flops.  Maybe it’s my East coast classic coming out when I live in a West coast world, but when dressing up rubber flip flops are a no no.  Easter is a dressier Sunday regardless of what you’re doing so step up your shoe game.  It doesn’t have to be heels, but it does have to be a little nicer of a shoe (ex: see Jill’s chic flats in her look) .  There are so many good sandals, flats and heels out there that this should be an issue.  I love the mark. Sassy Stepper Pumps because they are SO COMFORTABLE and a shoe that adds miles to your shoe wardrobe.  They can be worn with jeans to work wear to dresses and beyond.  You can see my love for them here, here, here and here, told you I loved them.

Jill’s Styling Tip:  Be ready for Easter church and your Easter picnic by casually styling pretty spring colors.

Create your casual Easter look by pairing a pencil skirt in spring colors with a casual neutral top like the Sheer Brilliance Sweatshirt by mark. The straight line of the pencil skirt and chiffon layer on the sweatshirt will dress up your look for church. Add a pair of flat sandals to show off your pretty spring pedicure and make it easy to run in the grass to hide those Easter Eggs at the picnic. Finish off your look by adding colorful spring jewelry pieces that go with your skirt like the Three Of A Kind Bracelet Set by mark. This look will easily take you from Easter church to your Easter picnic after church.

Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid

Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid

Holiday Styling Tips: Plaid

The holiday season is here!  To go along with all those festive outings coming up you’ll need a festive look!  Which is why Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have a few tips to make your holiday styling a little easier.  First on the list, plaid!  Plaid is a easy fall print that transitions really well for holiday.  It can be casual or dressy so super fitting for your holiday events.  And yes holiday events include Thanksgiving!  Plaid is a perfect fall pattern for your Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving looks!

Alicia’s Tips For Styling Plaid:

1.  Go with a bold plaid

Go Bold This Holiday With Plaid Pants

I like red of course, it’s the most festive, but you can pick any color.  The key is to go with an all over print like in pants, or a jacket!  These ankle columnists in red plaid from Express (old) are a pretty bold way to wear plaid.

2.  Anchor it with a neutral

When going bold anchor it with a neutral, like black, to keep it wearable.  The solid black blazer over a graphic tee helps keep my bold plaid pants wearable.

3.  Dress up casual plaid with dressy fabrics.

Adding a satin blazer instantly dresses up the look.  The mark. Blaze A New Trail Blazer ($60) is the perfect piece to dress up plaid, with it’s nice quality and poppy print lining it’s a wardrobe must have.  It’s fitted, so not only is it slimming, but it also is a dressier silhouette.  (I even paired this blazer over my wedding dress for the after parties!)

4.  Complete with a little sparkle

Metallics and sparkle make anything a little more holiday-tastic!  I finished off my look with the mark. Pumped With Vogue Heels ($40), mark. Twice As Nice Necklace and mark. Cube Effect Necklace ($18).

Jill’s Styling Tips: Subtly add plaid by layering

My Sweet Obsessions: Holiday Plaid

My Sweet Obsessions: Holiday Plaid

“Go subtle with the plaid by layering a plaid button up under a sweatshirt like the Effortless Edge Sweatshirt by mark. Expose the plaid cuff and collar and unzip the side zipper for just a hint of plaid. To keep the plaid the main focus of your look, keep your accessories simple. Then, stay casual by finishing off with a pair of medium wash distressed denim jeans and brown riding boots.” – Jill from My Sweet Obsessions
