Grammy Feels That Took Over Mani Monday

Valentine's Day Mani Monday

Valentine’s Day Mani Monday

“Last night a DJ saved my life”…  That’s how I feel about the Grammy’s last night. Today I totally planned to have this Valentine’s Day Mani Monday post but then the Grammy’s happened, and for whatever reason it had me feeling all sorts of musical happiness.  Here’s what I loved…

  1.  The actual music!  Not the red carpet looks, not a funny moment or an emotional one or the personal statements, but the actual music.  Everyone was spot on and the performances were excellent and the music and nominees were all really good.  The spotify playlist, on repeat.
  2. Tribe Called Quest.
  3. Realizing that the song I’ve been sining along to on the radio that I thought sounded very Michael Jackson-esq for months now, was The Weekend.  How did I miss that?  Oh, because for this last year I’ve not been listening to music, but I used to…  I used to know things, listen to it at work, while doing things, while getting ready… somehow I dropped music from my life which I why last night and the Grammy’s sparked something.
  4. Beyonce’s Red Sequin Dress.  Well all the red actually, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Kat Graham, Maya… of course red carpet picks had to make the list.
  5. Adelle’s makeup making her look like a bronzed goddess especially against her stunning green dress.
  6. Bruno as Prince.
  7. My new love and appreciation for Chance the Rapper.  Granted you’ll find a good few of my shazam’s containing him but I did not have him on my list of folks I liked, until now with his genuine personality and that gospel performance.  Anyone who can smoothly work in Harry Potter into your rap has my attention.  Word yo!
  8. Katy Perry’s white tux during her performance.
  9. Demi Lavoto’s jumpsuit during the Bee Gee’s tribute… and well, that freaking Bee Gee’s tribute.  I also can not help but smile every time I hear the Bee Gee’s and think of those SNL skits with JT and Jimmy, The Barry Gibb Show.  Smiles every time.
  10. Finally, that there’s a carpool karaoke show coming our way.  It better be on right after lip sync battle 😉

Meanwhile, Valentine’s Mani Monday brought to you by Jamberry.  I absolutely adore them for the holidays, to get those fun printed looks to theme things out.  I’ll be doing a new mani today for actual Valentine’s Day tomorrow, probably while listening to that Grammy’s Spotify playlist.

Nailed It: Julep Smitten Kitten Box

Julep Smitten Kitten Box

Julep Smitten Kitten Box

Ok so this was totally my Valentine’s Day mani but hearts, glitter, red and white are still perfectly acceptable all month long!  So better late then never, here’s round 2 of the Valentine’s Day nails courtesy of Julep’s Smitten Kitten Box (see round 1 here).  For February I decided to go with the Smitten Kitten box as my maven selection.  (Maven’s are Julep’s members who get a perfectly curated box each moth to take or skip).  I knew it was going to be PERFECT for this month’s holiday and their themed out selections haven’t let me down in the past. (see last yrs v-day, st. patty’s and 4th of july)

The Smitten Kitten box included a red creme (Karissa) a full coverage gold glitter (Vivien), a holographic heart glitter (Hartleigh) and Freedom topcoat with cute red and white heart stickers.  I loved them all so much I had to use them all in one look.  Overkill, for some maybe, super fun and festive, absolutely!

I alternated the red and gold as my base and then let them mostly dry before putting on the heart sticker.  I then followed it up with a generous coat of Freedom Topcoat.  Because I knew there were going to be a lot of layers I only went with one coat and got them opaque.  Again, this is why I love Julep for their killer formulas!

For my pointer I decided to make it an accent nail by layering on Hartleigh over a super pale pink base. A glitter with hearts and heart decals make it way easier to get a perfect heart mani.  Way better then my past attempts at free handing a heart.

Essie Fiji and Essie A Cut Above

Essie Fiji and Essie A Cut Above

I’m totally excited to theme out the week in all things, red, white, pink, lacy and girly for Valentine’s Day this week!  So let’s start at the tips with a super easy Valentine’s Day mani!

Easy Valentine's Day mani with Essie

Easy Valentine’s Day mani with Essie

I’ve been dying to bust out my pastels and took this week as my opportunity!  I used one of my all time favorite pinks, Essie Fiji.  It’s opaque and the perfect pastel pink.  I then dappled on the rose gold glitter, Essie A Cut Above on my tips.  Perfect pairing for Valentine’s Day and super easy to do.

You might note my Valentine’s Day gift of past, my I Love You ring from Tiffany’s.  This guy, simple and small, has been in heavy rotation as of late, guess it’s time for a cleaning.  And those cute Valentine’s Day wine glasses, they’re from The Dollar Tree!  Talk about mixing high and low!

Tiffany & Co I Love You Ring

Because Valentine’s Day is on Saturday there’s plenty of time for me to get in another v-day nail look! Especially with all the pinspiration I’ve been pinning on my Be Mine board I definitely need to do another one before the week’s up!  What look will your nails be sporting for this lovely holiday?

Valentine’s Day Ideas – Nails

Happy Valentine’s Day… February the 14th!  — Now when arrow’s don’t penetrate Cupid grabs the pistol — Everyone else have that Outkast song running through their head all day like me?  Def not a bad thing… neither is wearing Valentine’s Day mani’s for the last 2 weeks!

Essie Size Matters and Julep Rebel

Essie Size Matters and Julep Rebel

This was my first attempt at drawing hearts with a toothpick since I don’t have a dotting tool, and I have to say, didn’t turn out half bad… now my other hand wasn’t as successful but there’s a reason why I only take pictures of my left haha.  I used Essie’s Size Matters and Julep Rebel for this look.  Are those not appropriate names for a Valentine’s Day look!?!

Conversation Hearts Nails

Conversation Hearts Nails

For my second look I wanted to recreate the conversation hearts that are a Valentine’s Day staple!  I used the coming-soon mark nailed it set in sorbet colors (ring and pointer) and last year’s night iris nailed it set (pink on pinkie) with Essie’s Turquoise and Caicos (middle) and Nice is Nice (thumb).  I then wrote my “conversations” with a silver sharpie and topped with a topcoat!  Note to self:  don’t add topcoat until sharpie is dry (hence the drag).  I was a little bugged by the not perfect writing and spacing but overall this is a really fun mani and a reason to wear a different color on every finger, which I never do.  The new nailed it set from mark. will be launching next week at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com or to get it early direct message me to order.
