What To Wear To Thanksgiving When You’re Attending

What To Wear To Thanksgiving When You Are Attending

What To Wear To Thanksgiving When You Are Attending

Are you hosting or attending a Thanksgiving dinner this year? If you are an easy going attendee then picking out an outfit is a little more fun and less strategic. My suggestion, the ever so popular sweater dress! It looks polished, put together but is oh so cozy and comfy. My pick is the Avon Elena Sweater Dress.

Avon Elena Sweater Dress $39.99

Avon Elena Sweater Dress $39.99

Why is the Elena Sweater Dress my pick?  Well, first off its black so instantly chic, and flattering. Its also a straight fitting shape, not tight so you can eat and sit and lounge and still be totally fine.  Like I said, it’s cozy and comfy and that’s what fall is all about!  It’s also $39.99 so super affordable.

Plus the Elena Sweater Dress comes pre-glammed with these fun rhinestone details.  No necklace required!  Just layer on some cute bracelets like these Avon Pearly Jet Stretch Bracelets.  I also added the Avon Sterling Silver Onyx rings for a little more glam.

To make it holiday ready I really like it paired with these Marc Fisher red booties and red plaid bag from Guess.  Of course it needed to be paired with a mega shiny red lip, the mark. Pout Vinyl Lip Paint in Glamour.  What I like about the lip paint for Thanksgiving is it has some serious staying power and is a bright red.

Meet Mademoiselle Mistie

Meet Mademoiselle Mistie!  She’s the darling face of the real representatives you see on the cover of the Avon Brochure and modeling our Fall For Paris collection.  I first “met” Mistie in the bloggersphere as a fellow WordPress blogger stalking and liking each others posts.  You can follow her blog, Mistie’s Musing’s, here!  Mistie has a keen sense of style since day one, which you can see if you follow her live vids, etc… I’m always getting ideas from her, especially as a fellow hot weather resident she gives great reviews!  That is why its no surprise I asked her for a little commentary on the Fall For Paris fashion collection she so exclusively got to be a part of.

Meet Madelmoiselle Mistie

On her favorite look from the collection:  “When I very 1st got to the shoot they put me in this outfit and I absolutely fell in love with it! I’m a big lover of graphic tees and this one super comfy & super chic! Unfortunately I wasn’t photographed in it, but Julie was and it looks amazing on her!!”

Week O’Nautical: Seersucker

Week O'Nautical - Seersucker

Week O’Nautical – Seersucker

This is a late post because long weekends tend to be for RR and not blog posts.  And then short work weeks tend to be for catching up not blog posts.  Either way, Labor Day marks my California-versary so I feel I need to mention it each year!  I feel this outfit kinda represents a lot about it.

Brooks Brothers Seersucker Skirt

Brooks Brothers Seersucker Skirt

My seersucker skirt is from Brooks Brothers that I bought while I was moonlighting there.  It’s extremely east coast, classic and preppy, which represents that part of me.  I got it on mega deal because I worked at the Brooks Brothers Outlet and this was a retail piece, so that represents the champaign taste on a beer budget part of me.  Which is why I was moonlighting to begin with, fresh out of college and moved across the country, I needed more $$. Lucky for me a lot of opportunity came from that Brooks Brothers gig, including my now husband.  The skirt was too big for me when I bought it and at the time too long, I always planned to have it hemmed.  Flash forward to now when I’ve gained some weight and learned that I actually like these longer pencil skirts on me, that too represents how I’ve grown here in CA.

East Coat meets West Coast

East Coat meets West Coast

Wearing it today on LDW feels a little full circle.  I paired it with another clearance find from Express, this one shoulder eyelet top.  CA style is much more relaxed so I can wear something that bares my shoulder to work and a Brooks Brothers skirt.  So this top represents my CA side.  I also went back to my favorite ivy covered dumpster at my old office building to take these pictures which absolutely was a huge part of my CA life.

Beautiful Ivy Dumpster Backdrop

Additionally I’m wearing a few of my favorite Avon accessories, my ring, scarf, earring and fav red lipid Coral Fever (see here), which all represent another big part of my CA life and all the opportunities it brought.  Like not having to work retail hours but having a 2nd job for that champaign taste!

I may not be where I thought I’d be when I first moved here, but its been a ride for sure… and we’ll see where I go from here!

Where are we headed!?

Week O’Nautical – Sail

Week O’Nautical sails on, like literally with sail boats.  I’m counting down to the long Labor Day weekend with a little nautical take on patriotic red white and blue.  What is more nautical than sail boats!?  I picked this Avon Lucy Dress on clearance and it couldn’t be more perfect!

Avon Lucy Dress for Nautical Look

Avon Lucy Dress for Nautical Look

For this nautical look it pulls a little retro so that def calls for some peep toe pumps (Guess) and some nautical jewelry (Avon).  I even tied the matching print scarf (Avon) to my navy and white tote (Coach).

Week O’Nautical: Lemons

Guess what today is, National Lemon Day! And it’s Week O’Nautical…. guess that means a lemony fresh take on a nautical OOTD! I’m a huge fan of lemons, not just as food, garnish, flavor, etc but also in design and aesthetic. So today is totally a me day haha!

Currently crushing on all things yellow!

Currently crushing on all things yellow!

I’ve been obsessed with yellow lately and I don’t see that going away come fall. For late summer it’s a great color, and this linen yellow dress from Target has been a go to.  I love the fit and the ruffle sleeves are mega fun and unexpected.  I’ve worn this dress accessorized so many ways, with black accents, with colorful accents, with gold accents, and now with lemon and nautical accents!

Lemon Necklace, kinda perfect!

Lemon Earrings, kinda perfect too!

For National Lemon Day I added this lemon necklace and lemon earrings from Avon, which could not be more perfect.  To take it a little nautical I added those navy and white striped mules also from Avon (last seen here) and a navy tote (Coach) with nautical print scarf (Avon) tied to it.  Bracelets and Red Supreme lips also from Avon, watch Movado (a new birthday prezzy!)

Birthday Pants, Let’s Make It A Thing

When your birthday falls on a Thursday that means you celebrate all weekend long. Which also means Monday following birthday weekend is rough. For a non-milestone birthday, with last minute plans and most my family not in town it actually turned out to be quite a fun weekend. It all started with fun birthday pants! mark. I opted for the gold pants for birthday OOTD because they would work for desk through dinner.  Instead of wearing the typical party dress, why not wear some party pants!?  I see these being equally as chic come holiday season and for when you want to be comfortable but fancy.  They made quite a statement without being too over the top.  I can’t tell you how many compliments I received!  Plus, I’ve seen this metallic fabric all over the place this fall as a huge trend.

Copy Cat Look: Meghan Markle

Copy Cat Look: Meghan Markle

Copy Cat Look: Meghan Markle

The Royal Wedding is coming up next weekend, and regardless if you’re a royal watcher or not, can’t argue that Meghan has style. Because I’ll take any reason to theme out my life, I decided this week I’ll pour my best cup of Earl Grey and channel my best London Looks. Meghan’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting look had me. I had to copy this look to the best of my ability with what I had in my closet.

Meghan Markle's Look (pinterest)

Word on Meghan’s Look:  Keys to this look are the pinstripe trench dress, black blazer over the shoulders, black strappy pumps, striped cross body bag and delicate jewelry.

My best recreation

My best recreation

What I had in my closet:  Mad Men for Banana Republic black and white striped dress, not quite a trench dress but same overall look with a cream base, black stripes and a longer length.  I love her blazer with the nautical gold buttons, but I only have 1 black blazer these days, a WHBM blazer with micro dots, still works.  For heels I have these old mark. ones with some strappy details and worked in some dainty jewelry pieces from Avon.  I think its super cute how she has the black and white striped cross body worn a little higher up, the best I could re-create this is with the mark. Summer Crush Crossbody, which gives it a little more California feel for my everyday.

Immittion is the greatest form of flattery right?  Either way, good style isn’t hard, you just have to copy cat it.  Find what you like in a picture, on tv, from my blog maybe and just re-create with what you have.  Maybe you’ll have to pick up an item or two, but that way you’re building a wardrobe with what you love, which is always ongoing.  I’ll be sipping some afternoon tea this week as we get closer to getting some eye candy from the Royal Wedding.  Can’t wait to see her dress!

Week O’Nautical: Nautical Gingham

Week O’Nautical: Nautical Gingham

Week O’Nautical Special Edition sails on with a look from the Avon Seaside Gardens collection (see here).  I just LOVED the cover look on the Avon brochure, so when deciding on what items to purchase I knew I was going to get that pencil skirt.  I opted to go with it in the gingham print, which is a huge trend this year (see it last here!).  Because I loved that cover look so much I decided to reacreate it my way.

My take on the Avon Cover Look

In my last post I said all you need is 4 items to update your spring with a nautical take, well I’m wearing all 4 of my items at once to recreate that cover look!

Melanie Pencil Skirt in Gingham

I already had a chambray button up so I didn’t need the ruffled Mia Shirt, but its certainly cute and pairs perfectly with the Melanie Pencil Skirt.  This skirt is forgiving!  It has stretch to it, hits at a flattering length, and is a nice thick material but not lined so perfect for spring/summer.

Chambray and Gingham

A pencil skirt and button up is an easy recipie to recreate, but its the accessories that make it fun!  These ankle wrap block heel sandals are super on trend, but the embelished detials and fun print make them mega unique and only $39.99!  The Cushion Walk Sandal with Embelishements come in 3 colors, including gingham so if you want just a pop of gingham this spring, the sandal is an EXCELLENT way to do it.

Gingham for Spring

From my last post you know I got this Veronica tote and Bag Charm Scarf and you can see why.  Its the perfect nautical bag to go with gingham!  Its the perfect spring bag, both functional and killer spring style.  Finishes off the look along with my mark. Beach Babe earrings and Avon Modern Elegance Pearl bangle set.

Veronica Tote and Scarf Bag Charm

mark. Beach Babe Earrings

This look definitley gives off that charming coastal town look, but also a cute spring wear to work outfit.  This gingham skirt would look just as cute with a white T-shirt and leather thongs come summer.  I think this Week O’Nautical special edition is an excellent idea with all these Seaside Gardens items 😉  Are you loving the gingham print this spring?

Week O’Nautical: How To Easily Update For Spring

Week O’Nautical: Update Without Breaking Your Budget

The Nautical trend is always a good way to update your wardrobe for spring.  In most places it’s still pretty cold out, but we’re over our black on black on black and heavy winter wear.  You can work in a few nautical pieces that will go with your winter basics and your summer basics making a very versatile spring wardrobe update.  Avon just released their Seaside Gardens (see more), a nautical fashion and home capsule collection, and its extremely affordable!  Let’s look how you can update your spring looks without breaking the break.

The Power Of 4.

Add 4 pieces, yep just 4 pieces.  Sticking to only 4 pieces keeps you in budget and will be just enough to switch up your basics and breathe new life. The Avon Seaside Gardens collection is pretty affordable, so 4 pieces would keep you close to that $100 range.  I would suggest a top, bottom, accessory and dress, but you need to gage your current wardrobe and lifestyle.  Looking at what I was loving, needed and knew would flatter my shape, I went with a skirt, sandal, handbag and scarf.  I can mix and match to update my spring wardrobe with these 4 items totaling $110.96!

Melanie Pencil Skirt in Gingham

I wear a lot of skirts and dress for work, and with the hot temps in Nor Cal a skirt works well for my lifestyle.  If your lifestyle wears more casual and you’re just going to wear your favorite jeans try a classic nautical striped top like the Michelle Boat Neck top ($19.99).

Ankle strap, block heels and pretty embellishment, all a spring shoe needs!

I’ve always been a shoe person.  A new spring shoe can even make an all black outfit feel like spring.  The shoe selection in the Seaside Gardens collection is strong!  I went with the Avon Cushion Walk Sandal With Stone Clusters, a low block heel sandal which will be functional, on trend and a pop of color.

Give me all the nautical shoes!

Switching to a new spring bag is the easiest way to spring up your wardrobe without giving up any of your winter wear.  I went with this Veronica Tote Bag in the Blue and White strip (it also comes in red!).

Avon Veronica Tote with Scarf

Pick 1 thing different than anything you have.

For me it was this square scarf.  I have plenty of big, wrap all over you scarfs, but I don’t have a cute little silky square scarf in a nautical print!  Don’t diminish the power of an accessory, I can wear this as a cute neck scarf, a style I’ve never done and would bring something completely new to my look.  Plus, it would be some warmth around the neck in the chilly weather.  I can also wear it tied on a bag, as a head scarf, or ever worn a few different ways as a neck scarf.

Avon Silky Scarf

I literally could go through the entire collection and come up with a million combinations of 4 items to mix and match into your regular wardrobe.  If you would like me to select a personalized pick for you, leave a comment!

Spring Perks

As an Avon representative, not only do I get to order things early, I also get some perks.  For instance, with the Seaside Gardens collection, with every 4 items I ordered I received a FREE pair of earrings.  These Avon Pop of Red Statement Earrings ($9.99) to be exact.  A piece of statement jewelry is definitely a good idea for a 5th piece to add to my original 4.  Even if I wear these with my black on black on black I’m adding a pop of something fresh.  Or I can pair this with the block heel sandals and I’ll bump up my look for spring.  *if you want early access, discounts and all the perks of being an Avon rep too you can sign up here for ONLY $25!

I couldn’t be more pleased with the 4 items I picked.  You can shop the entire collection at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger or see more here!  When building your order be sure to add on the Fresh Picks For Spring A Box for only $10 with a $40 purchase.  It not only is a great deal but will be the perfect makeup items to pair with your nautical outfits.  See my look with it here!

How To Wear A Spring Blouse For Work and Weekend

As spring approaches I’m ready to lighten up. Lighten up in fabrics, prints and in bulk. That’s why I’m all about versatile pieces like this mark. Floral Fantasy Tunic for both work and weekend! Let’s see it two ways this Wear and Share Wednesday!

For Work

fullsizeoutput_33fc.jpg

fullsizeoutput_33fa.jpg

This blouse dresses up nicely!  For work I paired it with a navy trouser (White House Black Market), a structured tote (Kate Spade), nude pumps (Nine West) and a white druzy necklace (Avon Druzy Pendant).  Tucking the tunic in gives it a little more professional look, plus the neckline isn’t too low.  Pairing it with navy instead of my usual winter black changes things up just enough to feel spring worthy!

For Weekend

fullsizeoutput_341d.jpg

fullsizeoutput_340a.jpg

fullsizeoutput_341b.jpg

A spring tunic is the perfect dress down piece!  You look put together, of the season and comfortable.  I styled mine casually with a pair of lilac cords (Loft Outlet), taupe booties (mark. A Cut Above Booties) and turquoise jewelry (mark. Oh So Boho ring set and earrings).  This look is still weather appropriate for spring but with color, fresh fabrics and turquoise treats.

Easily style this tunic two ways, and more!  I see this being just as cute with white denim jeans or your favorite pair of denim shorts or dressed up with a great pair of camel slacks or a pretty pencil skirt and under a classic navy blazer and dark denim!  Spring versatility at its finest!  You can shop my tunic, jewelry and booties at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger and don’t for get to add the A Box only $10 with a $40 purchase!
