Dressing Up A T-Shirt Dress

Dressing Up A T-Shirt Dress

Dressing Up A T-Shirt Dress

One of my favorite styles in life is a T-Shirt Dress. I like the grab and go ease of one that works for pretty much any occasion, especially in Nor Cal.  Which is apparent in all these previous posts I’ve done wearing a t-shirt dress.  When I ordered the Avon Ella Dress I, at the time, had plans of wearing it for Easter, but when it arrived I realized it was a t-shirt dress!  I wanted something a little more formal but in the process I realized you can dress up t-shirt dress for church, work, baby showers, wedding showers, spring flings… you name it spring event… All while being comfy in a loose t-shirt!

Step 1: Shoes!

Step 1: Shoes!

Dressing up a t-shirt dress comes down to three things for me, shoes, accessories and a shaping layer.  Let’s start with the shoes... because let’s always start with the shoes!  In this case a classic nude patent pump from Nine West took my outfit more polished.  You could swap in your favorite classic flats with this one if you’re not a pump gal, or a clean nude heeled sandal for hotter weather.

Step 2: Accessories

Step 2: Accessories

Next up, accessories!  A t-shirt dress is the perfect canvas for all your fun accessories, in this case we want to dress it up so what better than pearls and rhinestones!?  My pearly set is from Avon (which sold out but is coming back in stock this summer!)  A bit on the statement side this pearly necklace really just stands out and turns my OOTD very pretty.

Step 3: Shaping Layer

Step 3: Shaping Layer

Lastly, a shaping layer.  What does that even mean?  It means that usually a t-shirt dress can be kinda shapeless, so, add in something that gives it some structure!  A jacket, a blazer, a cardigan or even a belt or scarf.  We’re looking to dress up a t-shirt dress so some structure does that.  The Avon Ella Dress has these fun ruffled sleeve details so I pulled out this long jacket/blazer with similar ruffled sleeve details in a perfect-for-spring blush color from Calvin Klein.  The pastel colors compliment while the jacket gives it that a polished finish.  Plus I like how the blush tone from the jacket pulls out the blush tone in the necklace.

Modern Southern Belle: Word Of Alicia

Modern Southern Belle: Word of Alicia

Modern Southern Belle: Word of Alicia

Pour yourself a cup of sweet tea, because I’m about to share with you how to be a modern Southern Bell…. from Nor Cal.  Being a Modern Southern Belle means you take the idea of a Southern Belle and make it your own.  For me, the Southern Belle elements I want to take and apply to my own life/look are classic beauty, bright colors and lady like designs.  I think I hit all of those in this Avon Shelley Cutaway Blouse from the Avon Savana Blooms collection.  This is my pick from the collection and how I’m making it modern.

Modern Southern Belle

Modern Southern Belle

My own modern take on a Southern Belle is pairing a beautiful colorful floral blouse with a pair of dark green ankle pants and lace up pumps!  For me wear to work dress pant is still lady like in styling but grounds the bold florals.  The deep green color and ankle cut styling makes it modern.  (pants, Old Navy; pumps, Nine West Outlet).  The lace up details and suede finish on my pumps take an otherwise classic pump to the next level.

Spring has Sprung – Violet Vibe

Spring officially has sprung today!  And after having weeks of perfect spring weather we got rain today… go figure.  Regardless, it just means I can officially be in full-on spring mode.  I think I captured it in the latest new arrivals from mark.  Well, the geese thought I did at least…

White On Blazer and Violet Vibe Dress

White On Blazer and Violet Vibe Dress

Leave it to mark. to create another go-to dress in a hot spring shade.  The Violet Vibe Dress ($32) is super flattering and the cut flatters pretty much any body type.  To slim the waist even more I added another new mark. arrival, Studs and Style Stretch Belt ($16).  I paired it with the White On Time Blazer ($48) since it’s not quite warm enough for sleeveless.  Seriously though, this blazer is pretty much the PERFECT white blazer.  The quality is on par and the fit is flattering and trendy while staying classy, a wardrobe must have!  It tops everything from dresses to tanks and jeans and everything in between!  You’ll see more of this blazer, I promise.

Spring Details That Geese Love

The Style and Stones Bracelet ($24) and In A Flash Ring ($16) add a little charm while staying fresh as spring in the brass crystal and blush tones.  Of course I’m carrying my favorite spring bag, the Hot To Handle Bag ($36 – get it for $25 with a $20 purchase now through 3/21) and anchoring it all the Straight Up Sassy Heels ($40) all available at my eboutique:  http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger

This spring mark. has hit the mark with the new spring arrivals.  I love these pieces not only for their fresh feel but also for their versatility.  This whole outfit will work for work or play or a spring bridal/baby shower or a perfect look for Easter and so much more.  I can see myself wearing this dress all summer with some wedges and the blazer topping a tank and shorts.  I think I’m more than ready for spring with all these pieces… now I just need a tan.  Maybe I’ll hang out on the grass here with the geese and see if I can get some sun.

Easter Nails and Hamptons Collection Preview

I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do for my Easter mani this year but I knew I wanted a pastel… but I planned on wearing white and cobalt so I needed something to coordinate with the crisp color scheme… then I remembered Kristen got me a cobalt blue crackle for Christmas!  Perfect!  I decided to layer it over a pastel pink… this mark. tickled pink to be exact!

Crackles may not still be “in” but I’m still enjoying them!  They’re a quick and easy way to create an interesting nail “design”.  Plus I thought it looked like a cracked hard boiled easter egg so totally themed out!!
