Summer Camp Nails

Summer Camp Nails

July has been a busy month for me between warm summer nights and weekend getaways, summer and summer vacation mindset have been in full swing!  Busy month also means neglected nails.  Sorry digits.  I went camping the other weekend and I knew I was gong to feel super dirty and super un-polished so I knew I needed to polish those nails with a good mani to have at least that.

We went camping up at Bullards Bar in Dobbins, CA.  Which you might remember from this post when we spent our summer vacation there on a house boat.  During that trip I wore this mani/pedi combo so I thought let’s wear that same peach!  Only this time with aqua chevron decals from my last Julep maven box!

Obviously my nails got dirty after a weekend in the dirt and now showers… did I mention how much I HATE not showering.  A lighter shade (Essie’s A Crewed Interest) helped mask the dirt, however the chevron decals not so much.  Overall I LOVED this look for summer and even more for summer camping!  Next time I wouldn’t try to apply the decals while being sleep deprived, things end up a little wonky haha.  If you’re going camping or to a summer camp recreate this mani and have a great time!  Use code SUMMER here for a FREE Julep maven box!

The California drought definitely gave us a completely different experience this time visiting Bullards Bar but as always those waters were stunning!  Overall Bullards Bar is a much better lake for boating and jet ski’s.  If you have that, GO, but just for regular camping there are so many other great options in Nor Cal.

Nailed It: Julep Smitten Kitten Box

Julep Smitten Kitten Box

Julep Smitten Kitten Box

Ok so this was totally my Valentine’s Day mani but hearts, glitter, red and white are still perfectly acceptable all month long!  So better late then never, here’s round 2 of the Valentine’s Day nails courtesy of Julep’s Smitten Kitten Box (see round 1 here).  For February I decided to go with the Smitten Kitten box as my maven selection.  (Maven’s are Julep’s members who get a perfectly curated box each moth to take or skip).  I knew it was going to be PERFECT for this month’s holiday and their themed out selections haven’t let me down in the past. (see last yrs v-day, st. patty’s and 4th of july)

The Smitten Kitten box included a red creme (Karissa) a full coverage gold glitter (Vivien), a holographic heart glitter (Hartleigh) and Freedom topcoat with cute red and white heart stickers.  I loved them all so much I had to use them all in one look.  Overkill, for some maybe, super fun and festive, absolutely!

I alternated the red and gold as my base and then let them mostly dry before putting on the heart sticker.  I then followed it up with a generous coat of Freedom Topcoat.  Because I knew there were going to be a lot of layers I only went with one coat and got them opaque.  Again, this is why I love Julep for their killer formulas!

For my pointer I decided to make it an accent nail by layering on Hartleigh over a super pale pink base. A glitter with hearts and heart decals make it way easier to get a perfect heart mani.  Way better then my past attempts at free handing a heart.

Mani Monday – Deep Purple and Gold

There’s just something that feels right when your nails are DONE. Coming after a week of the most tragically neglected nails this dark and glittering look makes me super happy.

Half Moon Gold Glitter over Deep Dark Purple

Half Moon Gold Glitter over Deep Dark Purple

A deep purple from the mark. Nailed It Nail Duo from fall (last seen here) is the perfect deep base for a DIY gold half moon.  I used an old Julep polish (Oscar) to free-hand the half moons but you can re-create with any of your fine glitters.

As with most of my mani’s this January they involve my favorite fingerless gloves from mark.  (Trendsetter Fingerless Gloves).  Winter hands are nothing to mess with!

What’s making your mani this month?  What shades are you looking forward to in February!?

Mani Monday: Friendsgiving

Julep Maven It Girl November Box: Friendsgiving

Julep Maven It Girl November Box: Friendsgiving

I hosted my Friendsgiving on Saturday and I have to say it was a success! Not only did we have a lot of fun, but we had a lot of tasty options (like apps and fresh cranberry sauce). I also had a lot of style inspiration! (like here, here and on my pinterest board!) When I saw Julep’s Maven November box was a Friendsgiving theme I knew I was selecting that one and putting their expertly styled polishes on my digits for my own Friendsgiving!

Mani Monday: Julep Marzia and KiKi

Mani Monday: Julep Marzia and KiKi

I elected to go with the IT Girl box which contained Marzia, Kiki and Ilsa. I’ve been feeling more simplistic mani’s lately so I used the two metallic shades Marzia and KiKi on my fingers and the dark inky cream Ilsa on my toes.

Got to put that china to good use! Nail shots!

The dark beige metallic Marzia was the perfect fall shade and the accent finger in the shimmering dusty teal Kiki added just enough interest. And I have to say after the abuse they took cleaning and cooking these polishes held up! Which is why if you haven’t tried Julep yet, you need to!

You can join Julep and get your own maven monthly box here!  Your first box is free!

Mani Monday: 4th Of July Nails

The Arsenal: 4th Of July Nails

The Arsenal: 4th Of July Nails

The countdown to the long holiday weekend has officially begun with all things red white and blue!  And what do I coin this countdown?  Week O’Nautical!  (basically a reason to wear red white and blue with a slight nautical influence to get me through the work week for the long weekend!).  I spent my Sunday Funday relaxing by the pool with the pups, reading magazines and doing my nails.  That’s the ultimate Sunday Funday in my book!  But I think I was so overwhelmed by all the inspiration on pinterest that my 4th of July nails turned out kinda basic… but red white and blue and glitter is never a bad thing!

4th Of July Nails

4th Of July Nails

I started with Avon’s Smooth Beginnings Base Coat on all my  nails.  For the blue I used Julep Monaco (last seen here).  The red is mark. Snowberry (last seen here) and the white is Essie She Said Yes.  For the red white and blue glitter with little stars in it, is Julep America.  (last seen here).  The white and red shades have a little sparkle to the formula, like a little firework on your nails!

I miiiiight just have to redo my 4th of July nails once my Julep Maven Box arrives this week… if you’re not signed up to Julep then do so here!  They offer perfectly curated sets each month with customizable options and top notch packaging to boot!  Plus you don’t have to buy every month, just when you want, and they’re definitely one of my absolute favorite polish brands!  With my July box coming I have a perfect-for-the-4th red and a couple of sea salt finishes that I’m dying to try out!  So maybe I’ll try to recreate one of these pins I’m currently obsessed with, like this accent nail in blue and 1 giant star… LOVING the simplicity of that one!

Mani Monday: Turquoise and Nude Nails

Turquoise and Nude Mani

Turquoise and Nude Mani

Coming straight off my turquoise accent obsession today’s Mani Monday is nothing but fitting, especially for summer.  Ever since I got the mark. Nail This Look Polish and Ring Set I’ve basically been wearing the shade Seafoam non stop (as seen here and here).  It pairs well with everything from yellow to pink to blue to nude and more so no surprise I’m still wearing it.  Only this time with beige, Avon Barefoot Beige and a nude halo, Julep Ginger on my ring finger.

Usually my summer go-to is the brightest pink I can find but this year I’m all about the turquoise, mint and blues!  Lucky for me they’re hot this season (as seen here!)  Plus, they play well with my mark. Sparkle in A Snap Bracelet and Avon Signature Boyfriend Watch!  Shop these exact shades and accessories at my eBoutique and shop Julep here.

Mani Monday – Tips and Topcoat with Julep Monaco

I’m lazy and a procrastinator.  Which also means I’m pretty good at finding quick fixes to deal with the things I meant to do and never got around to or things I didn’t leave enough time for because I spent too much time on pinterest looking at 100 different pins on how to wear a chambray shirt (when I only wear it one way anyways…).  Such is the case for extending a mani, I have a quick fix that!  Tips and topcoat!

Example:  It’s 4pm on a Friday and I the mani I did on Monday isn’t looking weekend worthy, all scratched up, dull and definite tip wear.  I don’t have time to remove, base coat it up, 2 coats of polish and a topcoat and all to dry enough so its not a smudge fest for happy hour!  Enter in my quick fix to extend any mani, tips and topcoat!

NOT weekend worth with scratches and wear

NOT weekend worthy with scratches and wear

Definite tip wear, needs a QUICK FIX ASAP!

Definite tip wear, needs a QUICK FIX ASAP!

Just apply your color to the tips of your nails, including free edge.  Do a thin coat or touchup on any nail that’s particularly scratched/chipped/etc.  Then do a layer of topcoat (again making sure to get the free edge) and voila!  A weekend worthy mani in no time.

Julep Monaco Quick Fixed!

Julep Monaco Quick Fixed!

Obviously, I have crappy cuticles and you can see that up close, but also means you can see how this was my original mani quick fixed to a weekend ready mani!  Lazy girls rejoice!  Now come Sunday they’re going to look crappy again but Sunday Funday is made for Dexter binges and doing your nails!  So the Word of Alicia to quickly extend your mani is tips and topcoat!

Can we take a minute and comment on how AWESOME Julep Monaco is!  Its the perfect “dazzling blue” polish for spring.  Which if you didn’t know already by my posts here and here its the pantone color trend for spring!  Plus its vacation destination name just makes me happy!  Sign up to become a Julep Maven here AND get your first box for FREE using promo code FREEBOX here.

Trending Tuesday #halloweenmanis

If the world of alicia was the internet #halloweenmanis would be trending!  With Halloween coming up next week there’s at least one thing we can do to be festive, put a costume on your nails!  I’m a sucker for theme-ing out anything and that includes my mani’s!  Check out last year’s versions here  This year however I’ve been festive for the last week or so which means #halloweenmanis all week!
image

Something super simple for October is black.  Basic black actually is pretty chic so sporting it before Halloween is definitely a way to be festive but yet not over the top.  Something new to try this year is Black Vinyl by Julep.  It has a different finish than your normal polish giving it the edge in the black nail polish department.  And if you’re not a black nail polish wearer – now’s your chance!  It’s Halloween anything goes!
image

It’s a rubbery, matte finish… basically like vinyl for your nails, hence the name black vinyl!  I received mine as part of my bombshell box for the month of October paired with a shimmery deep green, Valerie.  These two are the perfect pairings for a chic #halloweenmani and/or #halloweenmanipedi pairing!  I wore the green shade in this Wear and Share Wednesday post if you look hard enough 🙂
image

Let me just say that Julep is been on point lately!  A little insight into Julep, every month the release a collection with a pairing suited for 5 different style types.  The pairing is your maven monthly box and my type is Bombshell which like I said has been spot. on.!!!  To get your own maven box sign up here (you can get it for only a penny!  use code PENNY).  Believe me you won’t be disappointed plus becoming a maven gets you additional discount, exclusives, promotions and free products!

I’ll be highlighting my #halloweenmanis all week so check back for more nail costumes!!!

S.O.S. Save My Nails – Week 1 Update!

Its been just a little over a week since I implemented my S.O.S. Save My Nails Plan and so far so good…

Week 1 Nails - and a mark. sneak peek!

Week 1 Nails – and a mark. sneak peek!

The Good:  I def have noticed a different in the dryness in my hands, they’re much much more moisturized.  My cuticles are also much better, I’m not so embarrassed of them, so win!  My nails definitely are a little bit longer than last week, but I wouldn’t say too much more than a normal week’s growth.  I’m kinda liking the new nail shape especially in a bright creme polish like this, Julep’s Natasha and Ginger (on ring finger).

The Bad:    I’m not really good at sticking to the plan, especially the internal part.  Considering in the last three days I’ve had Burger King, Taco Bell and McDonalds so that eating healthier thing isn’t quite working out so well.  Definitely not drinking more water like I need to, and I forget to take my vitamins.

Week 2 Hopefulls:  Actually stick to the plan!  More vegetables, more water, consistency in applying my hand cream/cuticle oil and actually take my vitamins every day!

PS:  mark. Sneak Peek!  Check back on Friday to see the full details on this new clutch, necklace and tank!  Yay!

Happy Labor Day! with my nails

Summer don’t leave me!  Stay just a little bit longer, pretty please!  I promise to celebrate you with killer neon nails, short shorts and bare feet!

I’m celebrating the unofficial end of summer blowout with some ‘Merica nails… red white and blue through and through!

Labor Day Nails - Julep Kate and America - The Beautiful

Labor Day Nails – Julep Kate and America – The Beautiful

I used my July Julep Bombshell Box to create this look with:

Kate, soft white pearl and America-The Beautiful, shiny red with royal blue glitter and sterling silver stars, it’s like nail art in a bottle.

I love Kate, and has been my go-to-white all summer and how perfect for labor day #notd dripping in red white and silver glitter!  I wish there were more stars in my bottle, i didn’t get any in this paint session but overall America The Beautiful is PERFECT for all my favorite American holidays for years to come!

If you haven’t tried Julep yet I HIGHLY recommend giving this beauty box of the month subscription service a whirl.  The polishes are great and they give you a bonus gift which is just as luxe.  So for $19.99 you get 2 polishes and a full size bonus item and sometimes an extra bonus item!  Plus right now you can get your intro box FOR A PENNY!  Seriously, no gimmick.  Only  a penny and if you don’t like it you don’t have to continue with it… Check out Julep, sign up for your penny box here:  http://julep.com/?r=20109417 use code COLOR2012

And enjoy some bbq, swimming and family and friends this labor day to take summer out with a bang!  Obiv I have been enjoying my pool time a lot this weekend hence the tip wear 😉
