Nailed It: Birthday Mani!

It’s Mani Monday AND Birthday Week sooooo Birthday Mani it is!

Nailed It: Birthday Mani!

Nailed It: Birthday Mani!

I’m a summer baby so I wanted a summer mani but also a little party so I went with a bright orange with gold glitter accents.  I did go gel… which is rare for me.  Even having a professional mani is rare for me but #birthdayweektreats!  Well actually pre-birthday week treats. I had them done last week, so I knew I needed to last a week, so what lasts?  Gel.  What ruins my nails?  Gel.  It’s a love hate relationship.  I know once I soak these off those long talons will soon break.  I have ridged nails so all the buffing and filing them down really removes a lot of their strength.  But until then I’m sporting birthday nails!

Orange and Gold Glitter Gel

Orange and Gold Glitter Gel

I know the glitter gel is Daisy Gel Polish Legendary Diamond 467 but I didn’t take note of the orange.  I know it was the brand DND and in the 400’s so it might of been Pastel Orange but either way I’m digging it for a late summer birthday mani!

Pumpkin Spiced Mani

Pumpkin Spiced Mani

Because I’m a basic white girl and all things pumpkin and fall-tastic occupy my world lately, a pumpkin spiced mani seemed to be perfectly fitting!  I couldn’t decide what fall mani I wanted to do as I searched through my polish collection.  This Julep  polish in Brielle jumped out at me!  Since burnt orange isn’t really a color in Alicia’s favorites  (or even general likes) I’ve never used this shade.  But this time it called out to me, like “hey, I’m more pumpkin than ugly 70’s burnt orange, and I’m perfect for fall!”

To spice up the creamy pumpkin orange color in Julep Brielle I added a rose gold stripe on the sides in Essie Penny Talk.  The perfect pumpkin spice mani for a sweater weather kind of day.  I’m super excited to sport this October perfect mani for a trip to the pumpkin patch, or just sipping some pumpkin spiced chai (recipe to come!), either way it’s a winner.

Week O’Nautical – Guard Orange

Nautical Guard Orange

Nautical Guard Orange

Week O’Nautical sails on with the Coast Guard’s signature orange being today’s focus.  I mean, with a bright color like that, how can it not go noticed… at sea or in a nautical influenced outfit!  The inspiration all started with one perfect necklace, the mark. Sail Away Duo Charm Necklace ($20 at my eBoutique).  How perfectly fitting for my week of nautical outfits as we count down to the long Memorial Day weekend!?!

I paired my guard orange skirt from Express (belt by mark.) with a navy tank from Kohls and my favorite navy and white striped open cardigan from Loft with a gold tote and flats from mark.  A functional outfit for so many occasions including a Memorial Day BBQ!

Sometimes cute flats are just necessary.

Sometimes cute flats are just necessary.

Typically a heels wearer, but I’ll make an exception for cute chain details and gold.  Sometimes the occasion just calls for flats.  When nautical trend styling gold chain detailing is a must!  A trend carried from head, the mark. Hang With Me Earrings ($20 at my eBoutique), to toe with these mark. flats.

Gold Details For A Memorial Day BBQ outfit

Gold details, nautical stripes, navy and guard orange, all the nautical elements needed for a Week O’Nautical outfit.  You could easily switch out the skirt for shorts or loose the cardi for warmer weather.  Wearing a bright color is easy when you pair it with grounded pieces like a solid navy tank.  Give it a try this Memorial Day weekend!

Navy Winged Eye with mark. Island Eyes Pallet

Navy Winged Eye with mark. Island Eyes Pallet

Because the skirt is a little mod in shape with the a-line mini I went with a mod eye makeup creating a navy cat eye using the mark. Island Eyes Pallet ( $16 — see my review here).  I used the light blue shade all over my lid then using an eyeliner brush (dry) I created a line at the lashes using the dark blue shade and extending it beyond.  I followed up with a liquid liner on top of that line (mark. Get In Line) and finished with a good coat of mascara on curled lashes (mark. Last Act) and mark. Island Beauty Pallet for bronzing and blush.  Get all the products used at my eBoutique.

We’re down to only 1 more work day until the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day weekend.  As you figure out your plans, and therefore your outfit, hopefully Week O’Nautical provides some inspiration.  Check out my past posts from the week:  Mani Monday, White Linen and Wear To Work.  Be sure to check back tomorrow and over the weekend for more Week O’Nautical!

Halloween Nails with OPI So So Skullicious

When I first saw OPI’s Halloween release I was like, uh pass… then a couple days went past and I could not stop thinking about the set, and how it’s such a fun day of the dead twist on a classic color selection.  So I told Amazon I wanted them, Amazon organized a trade, my money for the OPI So So Skullicious Set, and the rest was history!  Just in time for multiple Halloween manis!

OPI So So Skullicious

OPI So So Skullicious

The set included your classic orange, pink, black, yellow and a set of decals in fun day of the dead print skulls.   I personally felt the formula was great even for a mini.  I achieved full opaque in 2 coats except for Candlelight which required 3.  The decals were easy to apply.  You had to get them wet, then wet your nail (after the polish is dry), slide off the decal and place it on your nail, finish with top coat.  They all had a great shiny finish even before topcoat!

Walking Dead Mani

Walking Dead Mani

I created 2 looks with this set so far and still have over a week until Halloween so you KNOW more is to come!  For my first look I used A-Rose From The Dead on my pointer, middle and pinky.  On my ring I used Mourning Glory with a decal.  Since no two decals are the same I picked two that were similar and would show up nicely on the black.  For my thumb I used Mourning Glory with a thin vertical stripe of A-Rose from the Dead on the inner edges.  You can’t really tell here but I did 🙂  I also used Mourning Glory on my toes with a matching vertical stripe in A-Rose From The Dead on my big toe.  I highly enjoyed this mani pedi combo and it was PERFECT for The Walking Dead premier!  (Can I say how excited I am for season 3!!!)  And there’s that mark. Vintage Violet Stretch Ring ($18 at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com).  I told you it’s been my go to lately!

Halloween Mixed Media Mani

Halloween Mixed Media Mani

My 2nd creation was a mixed media mani with Mourning Glory on my thumb and ring, a chevron print on my pointer with a base of Candlelight and Hi, Pumpkin on top and Hi, Pumpkin on my middle and pinkie with Finger Paints Fall of Surprises for a little glitter!  The same glitter I used in my Oktoberfest mani a few weeks back!  This was without topcoat and after 2 days of wear so excuse the tip wear!

Please disregard the not so stellar quality of these pictures, they’re from my Instagram/phone so not the best but I never got around to taking a real nice shot with the real camera.  I have to say I’m really excited about this set and all the possibilities.  I love the day of the dead twist to your standard Halloween mani and the great OPI formula.  If you’re looking for something to do a Halloween themed mani with def get this set!  The colors will translate well outside of Halloween and they’re mini’s so what’s not to love!

Oktoberfest Nails – Essie Skirting The Issue and Finger Paints Fall of Surprises

Welcome October, or as the hmail calls it, spooktober!  It doesn’t feel much like fall since its supposed to be a high of 99 today but at least my nails are fall fabulous!  At my company we had our annual Oktoberfest gathering, Doradofest!  So of course, I had to do an Oktoberfest themed mani!

Oktoberfest Polish - Finger Paints Fall of Surprises and Essie Skirting The Issue

Oktoberfest Polish – Finger Paints Fall of Surprises and Essie Skirting The Issue

I got the Essie Stylnomics Fall 2012 collection mini cube awhile back and have been dying to use it!  But since its been so hot I just didn’t want to say goodbye to summer colors yet.  My Oktoberfest mani was just the occasion to bust them out.  I used 2 coats of Essie’s Skirting The Issue, a deep oxblood color, with a glitter gradient in Finger Paints Fall of Surprises from their 2012 fall release.  Fall of Surprises I just had to get because of its fun fall name and gorgeous bronzy orange mix of hex and small glitter.  Reminds me of fall leaves glistening in the morning dew!

Oktoberfest Nails with mark. Great Ring Tones Ring Set

Sorry for the not so great picture, still figuring out my camera setting on my new Galaxy S3, but even blurry these nails make me happy, totally fitting for the occasion!  I probably could of used an extra coat of topcoat because my glitter did kinda catch as the polish wore, or I would of just done the gradient at the tips instead of from the base.  And as a sidenote, still LOVING my mark. Great Ring Tones Set which I layered with a silver ring from Mexico.  Get the Great Ring Tones set for $16 at my eboutique:  http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com

Not that I had any of the tastings from Jack Russell Brewing but I did enjoy my Doradofest pint glass!  If you’re looking for a Oktoberfest themed mani I highly recommend this combo!  I think I’m finally ready to use the rest of my Essie Stylenomics mini cube, maybe I’ll just keep my summer neons on my toes 🙂

Happy Memorial Day with Nautical Nails

You got a sneak peek of my mani here and my pedi here so its no surprise what I’ve been sporting all week, but here’s a little more.

Nautical Nails

Nautical Nails

I wanted to do something different but I wasn’t very inspired.  After some google images searches I still wasn’t too inspired.  I knew I wanted to wear gold on my fingers and I knew alllacquredup.com did a great nautical flag manicure with last year’s China Glaze Anchor’s Away collection, so I took that idea and ran with it for my toes.

I have on the bright orange from my Julep intro box,  Natasha.  I then tapped off my big toe and did a diagonal block or Essie’s Midnight Cami, a sparkling deep navy.  I then used one of those Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen’s to do the line, which I can’t recall the shade right now but I have to say… eh.  They just don’t work as great as I want them to.  The flow isn’t even so I can never get the line to be how I want it, clean and precise.  However, it works for now.

For my mani, I used that same deep navy, Essie Midnight Cami,  as my accent nails.  I usually only do my ring, but I wanted a little extra impact this time.  The gold glitter on top is also from my Julep maven box, Oscar.  I did it in a gradient approach and I just loved how this color combo glittered in the sun with the dark navy base and bright gold glitter.  My regular gold polish used on the rest of my fingers is China Glaze High Tech.  I love this shade, its not to warm or cool and super metallic!  Check out how it looked with my arm party chillin’ at a weekend BBQ.

Nautical Arm Party

Nautical Arm Party

I’m of course wearing my Borrowed from The Boys Watch once again and my Cross Your Fingers Ring in gold both from mark.  The white bracelets I randomly found in my jewelry box and I think they’re from H&M years and years ago, but was pretty pleased I found them to wear with this weekend’s nautical looks!

Summer Nails in Spring – Julep Maven Review Natasha & Oscar

Julep Natasha & Oscar with mark. Pretty Stellar Ring

Julep Natasha & Oscar with mark. Pretty Stellar Ring

There’s that mark. Pretty Stellar ring again, I told you I’m going to wear the crap out of it!  I took advantage of that amazing offer Julep is having for trying out their Maven program for a penny.  Best penny I ever spent!  If you don’t know what a Julep Maven is, its basically another beauty subscription service only for NAILS!!!  Yay!  Here’s more info.  Plus if you sign up through my link then I’ll love you forever and maybe send you a thank you gift for doing so 🙂  And ITS ONLY A PENNY, SO WHY NOT!  USE CODE COLOR2012 HERE!

Anywaaaaayyyysss… So I took my Julep quiz and decided my “fit” was the Bombshell set.  The Julep Maven Bombshell Introductory Box includes:

  • Julep™ Facial for Hands Glycolic Scrub, contains glycolic acid combined with apricot seeds for double exfoliation that leaves your hands noticeably softer after just one use.
  • Natasha, intense orange. Call attention to your sandals.
  • Oscar, sparkle like a star with this ultra chic, multi-dimensional gold glitter.

Julep Bombshell Intro Box

I have to say, I was quite impressed.  I REALLY loved the Julep Facial For Hands Glycolic Scrub.  I gave myself an at home mani with this guy and I really felt like I had stepped out of the nail salon when I did it all at home, FOR A PENNY!

I think I’ll continue to get Julep boxes for a while.  I def need to build up my mani product collection, maybe not so much my polish collection but honestly, when is getting new polish a bad thing?  Just forces myself to get rid of some old frosted colors I own haha.  Natasha really proved the point that I LOVE full color cremes, especially bright ones!  I tend to save them for summer but really, I need to wear them all year long, especially in the spring!

Sign up to become a Julep Maven yourself and get in on this, again FOR A PENNY!  You can cancel at anytime so even if you just get your first box for a penny and be done with it, its so worth it!  To get my KILLER ring its available for presale through me for $18, hit me up!  aliciah.mentorassistant @ gmail.com
