Cheers to 2015! Here’s to a new year as good as the past! As you get ready tonight here’s a little inspiration:
It’s wear and share Wednesday, which means Jackie from Living After Midnight and I take the same piece, wear it two different ways and share it! For July we selected the mark. Styling Trapeze Blouse ($30). It’s the perfect versatile summer top, pool blue color, fun cutout neckline and lightweight for hot summer temps.
mark. Styling Trapeze Blouse
Going graphic, I played off the graphic cutout details of the top by pairing it with a graphic black and white knit pencil skirt. Remember this skirt from a previous Wear and Share Wednesday Post? Jackie and I styled this mark. High Contrast Skirt back in February but it seemed more than fitting to bust it out again for a fun, office-friendly-on-a-106-degree-day look!
What’s more graphic than black and white? Black and white pumps from Shoedazzle and a black leather bag with a black and white striped silk scarf tied on add to my look. My bag and scarf are from Brooks Brothers but you can recreate the look with the mark. Handle With Flair Handbag in black.
The cutout trend is definitely having a moment, but its harder to make that trend work-friendly. The mark. Styling Trapeze Top ($30) perfectly placed their cutouts around the neckline, making this a more versatile way to wear the trend. To really focus on this detail I went sans-necklace but avec statement earrings (mark. Wow Factor Earrings) and kept my other jewelry summer friendly in shades of blue and gold. (Avon Signature Boyfriend watch, mark. Nail This Look Ring, Limited bracelet, blue bracelet from the mark. Glimmer and Gleam Bracelet Set, and two bracelets I picked up on my Hawaiian vacation last year).
Wearing my hair up also helps draw attention to the super fun details of the mark. Styling Trapeze Blouse. Plus, when its over 100 there is no way I’m wearing my hair down… enter in the mega messy bun. I used the sock bun technique but wore it lower on my head to make it more appropriate. Quick summer style for a hot summer day.
This look is definitely my style. My favorite color, blue, with my favorite style, graphic black and white. Plus, I was able to make my current closet more versatile with adding in one new summer top, the mark. Styling Trapeze Top, and for only $30!
You can shop the mark. Styling Trapeze Blouse at my eBoutique. I bet you already have a handful of things you could pair it with to freshen up your current closet to create a killer new summer look. This top is extremely versatile, you could wear it with denim shorts like Jackie did or your favorite white bottoms, or slim capris, or skinny jeans or under a blazer… the list goes on. Be sure to head over to Living After Midnite to see more details on Jackie’s look!
BONUS! Now through July 18th (Friday) with a $75 order at my eBoutique get this tote filled with goodies for FREE. Yep, FREE! Perfect time to shop the mark. Styling Trapeze Blouse and all the SUMMER CLEARANCE (as seen here) items!
Long weekends are perfect for lazy days. Lazy days however doesn’t mean you have too look lazy. One of my favorite looks for a laid back look with minimal effort but maximum style is beach waves in the hair and a simple sun dress.
To get beach waves I start with a volumizing shampoo, because I’ll be doing this style on wet hair I need a little extra oomph so it doesn’t lay too flat at the roots. My pick of late is the new Avon Ultimate Volume which is on promo for $2.99! I follow up with the matching conditioner (also only $2.99 right now!)
After washed and combed through I let it air dry while I get ready. Once its not soaking wet but damp I spray mark. That’s Beachy Texturizing Spray ($9) all over. I use my hands and scrunch to create more defined waves. And that’s it! Easy, minimal effort and maximum style!
All I need to do is add on my favorite sundress, like this mark. Change Your Ways Dress ($36) (last seen dressed up here!). Its printed skirt resembling beach waves matches this style perfectly! Add on my favorite necklace as of late, the mark. Sail Away Duo Charm Necklace ($20) and I’ve got a look that’s easy and chic and ready in no time!
This long weekend I’ll be hitting up some sales, relaxing by the pool and spending Memorial Day at the lake. I think I have and look that will work for whatever the long weekend brings me.
It’s officially sandal season! Nothing like slipping on a nice pair of strappy sandals to instantly make it feel like its time for summer and maybe a pedi! Which is why for Wear and Share Wednesday, Jackie from Living After Midnite and I picked the neutral, shimmering, mark. Strappy Pretty Demi Wedges ($42) to base two different outfits around.
The mark. Strappy Pretty Demi Wedge are a neutral, shimmering, champaign sandal with gold accents with a zip back closure. The demi heel makes them a little more chic than your typical flat gladiator style. These are definitely one pair of sandals you could dress up or down and wear all season long. If your packing for a trip, these are the only ones you’ll need for your shorts to your dresses! They inspired me to do a super easy, casual outfit with a bit of pretty!
To go casual and pretty I started with my white basics, white denim shorts (Forever 21) and a white bra cami (Express). To bring in the pretty I drapped on my mint chiffon kimono from H&M (a summer steal at only $14.95). I love how this simple easy outfit is as versatile as the mark. Strappy Pretty Demi Wedges. An outfit that would be perfect for running errands or lounging poolside on your summer vacation!
I definitely would count this outfit as a summer vacation must-have! Especially paired with the mark. Get Packing Tote ($40). Easy and neutral, but pretty with its pop of neon pink trimming. The tote would be perfect as your carry on bag that you then could use as your shopper during your trip.
Even when you’re not on vacation this outfit is perfect for the weekend. Weekender tote, with comfortable walking shoes, with an easy Spring/Summer outfit is definitely weekend attire! I accessorized this look with a little bit of a boho vibe, with the easy weekend in mind. I stacked the mark. Glimmer and Gleam Bracelet Set ($26) with mark. Mighty Pretty m.powerment bracelet ($25) for a boho arm party with my mint rubber watch and an aqua vintage mark. ring.
Continuing with the boho weekender vibe I went with beach waves in my hair! On damp hair I sprayed mark. That’s Beachy Texturizing Surf Spray ($14) all over then scrunched and let air dry. Weekend hair couldn’t get any easier!
To finish off any vacation look you need a pair of sunglasses! I’m wearing the Get In The Shade Sunglasses (last seen here). Which, until May 15th you can get for ONLY $5 with any $20 purchase from the mark. Instant Vacation Saint Barts capsule collection at my eBoutiqe. Let’s admit it, vacations and weekends are prime events for losing sunglasses, that’s when a pair like this is perfect! For $5 you can’t not get them! They’re cute, trendy with the slight cat eye shape and tropical floral print and affordable!
The mark. Strappy Pretty Demi Wedges are the perfect must-have summer sandal. They go with pretty much everything and will take you pretty much anywhere. Pick them up and pack them for your next summer vacation. Until then, wear them with your favorite spring outfits (like a kimono!) Be sure to check out more on how Jackie at Living After Midnite styled her outfit around these killer sandals. You can shop them at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger
Get pedi ready in your mark. Strappy Pretty Demi Wedges! I’m wearing the shade Raspberry from the mark. Nail This Look Set which you might remember from our past Wear and Share Wednesday post! I love the deep but bright shade especially next to the mark. Get Packing Tote! Shop it: http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger
Award season is in full swing! I can’t say I watch all the nominated movies but I do catch a good handful of them. One of those movies that seems to be nominated for everything this year is American Hustle, since I saw this last week I decided to do a review, Alicia style! Plus Amy Adams is definitely one of my best dressed picks from the Golden Globes, staying slightly in character with her deep v and sleek gown.
American Hustle Plot Overview:
Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Adams star in director David O. Russell’s fictional period crime drama about a reckless FBI agent who recruits a con man and his alluring partner into a scheme to ensnare corrupt politicians and gangsters. Smooth-talking Irving Rosenfeld (Bale) is a hustler of the highest order. No mark is off limits for Rosenfeld, especially when his crafty partner Sydney Prosser (Adams) is by his side. When renegade FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Cooper) thrusts the deceptive duo into the treacherous world of New Jersey power players and underworld heavies, the thrill of the hunt grows too strong to resist. Meanwhile, New Jersey politician Carmine Polito (Jeremy Renner) gets caught in the middle, and Rosenfeld’s capricious wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) holds more power than anyone could imagine. Louis C.K. and Jack Huston costar. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi (fandango)
Word On American Hustle:
This movie was different. That’s the best way to explain it. It’s not your typical drama, comedy, romcom, thriller, etc… but not different in a bad way, but a good way! I definitely give it 2 thumbs up. It had me paying attention to the story line. Which typically would be difficult since it’s not that fast paced really. I was expecting some twists or a big action scene but no, it was all about the story line and relationships between the characters, that was all it needed with those acting skills. It wasn’t as funny as the commercials or nominations in the comedy category would suggest, but it has its chuckles. I did notice the 2hr and 9min runtime though… it felt that long fo sho. I think what had me hooked was the character development, you really felt for each character and wanted them to succeed. Plus Christian Bale was almost unrecognizable to me at first! I had to ask if that was him, haha!
Through the whole movie I think I was just as enamored with the costume design as I was with the movie. Here I thought I didn’t like 70’s fashion but I literally was wishing I had Amy Adam’s (Sydney’s) wardrobe. And some of it I kind of do… the pants, the wrap dresses, the sleek gowns, the coats! I basically have the black coat with mega fur worn by Jennifer Lawrence’s character Rosalyn.
Not only was the fashion spot on, the hair! If only I could get such bouncy soft flowing curls. Ok, ok not all the hair. I could do without the perms. “Hey gang, now what would make this great day even better? Perms for everyone!” (Burgundy reference for those of you not as cool as you think you are)
Word Of Alicia: Go see this movie, don’t expect a lot of action or twists and be prepared to sit for over 2 hrs. Then gawk at how pretty everyone is, then follow it up with wearing a wrap dress, big earrings, a trench coat and bouncy full curls. Maybe I’ll just do that too!
This Labor Day weekend marks my 8th year anniversary of being a Californian. Let’s take this back to 2005, I just graduated from PSU with my Econ degree in the spring, spent my summer home with mom and then packed my bags and flew out to California to start the fall with a new career with my first day being that Tuesday after Labor Day. Fast forward to Labor Day weekend 2013. This weekend I’m celebrating with my Nittany Lions winning their season opener and 8yrs at Dorado Software. Now that I’ve spent longer of my adult life as a Californian than a Pennsylvanian I’ve adopted in some California cool style.
The laid back vibe in California definitely translates through style. For my look I picked easy pieces like this nautical stripped dress with an asymmetrical hemline that I picked up during my Hawaiian vacation! I paired it with a simple capri sandal from Old Navy, the mark. For Shore Bag (now on clearance at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger) and chic jewelry in gold, beads and summer friendly turquoise.
I mixed the two bracelets I also picked up in Hawaii made of black coral and turquoise with mark. m.powerment pieces and the mark. Pretty Stellar ring (contact if interested). A cool CA look like this requires easy beach waves and bronzey makeup.
I used mark. Curl Commander and Sexy Hair beach spray on wet hair and scrunched. I followed it up with mark. Curl to Curl spray throughout the day. I used mark. Pro Bronze on my cheeks and the California eye pallet from July’s ipsy bag! I used shades Malibu & San Francisco together for my easy eye look
Then I just lined my with my favorite liquid liner mark. Get In Line and Lash Act mascara in blackest black
I remember that first day of my real job like it was yesterday. Driving down from Lake Tahoe in the wee hours of the morning after spending the last few days of my summer lakeside with the family. I most importantly remember what I wore, black linen wide leg ankle pants with a black short sleeve silk sweater. It really was not that put together but I was clueless on what I should be wearing, esp to combat the hot Nor Cal heat. In the last 8 yrs a lot has changed a lot hasen’t… but I’m happy the opportunities Dorado has given me & I have access to all this California style!
Once again I’m kicking off another Week O’Nautical! My own celebratory way to wear red white and blue all week leading up to our patriotic holidays! Seems fitting for being July 1st, officially half-way through 2013 and it’s also a Monday so back to the grind. Even though it’s a short week counting down to the 4th I still need to be productive. I had a chaotic weekend moving so I needed to get focused this morning and the best way to start that, is with a clean, simple and classic look inspired by the american beauty look in mark.’s summer magalog (launching the 11th — see the inspiration below).
I started with a simple navy dress (that I picked up years ago at Old Navy!) then added some simple summer accessories, mark.’s Tote the Town Bag ($45 at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com) and Tall Order Sandals (NOW ONLY 19.99 at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com). THIS. BAG. Let me tell you, it’s the perfect working girl summer bag. It is PERFECT going back and forth from work with its side pockets and front flap and large enough to fit everything. It also doubles as an overnight bag and triples as an awesome carry on perfect for long 4th of July weekend trips. It will look equally chic at work to the beach to the nights out! Think how pretty this would be paired with a white cotton sundress and capri sandals to a linen suit and heels!
I really wanted to show off my back-from-my-tropical-vacation tan with my nail color picks, an opaque nude for fingers and an opaque white for toes, my twist on the classic french. And really showcased with these Tall Order Sandals. The heels really look great against tanned skin (or during my whiter days seen here haha.) These heels are SO COMFY so be sure to catch them on mega sale for a limited time only at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com
Like I said, the inspiration behind this look is from the mark. summer magalogs (comment if you want to get on the mailing list!) Two looks mark. created were this retro American Beauty Look and the Ombre Lips Look:
Ok… ok… I admit I really hated this ombre lip trend. I mean really, its not ombre it’s just lip liner in a different color. HOWEVER I’m eating my words. Today mark. girl challenged us to try it, so I did, and I liked it! I used the same colors used here Make It Rich in Royal for the liner and LipClick in ChaCha for the lips. All I did was line my lips with Royal only I did it a little thicker than I would with a regular lip liner pencil. In the magalog it’s a bit sever, in real life it actually blends really well it just gives dimension to your lips.
Can you believe the ONLY jewelry I’m wearing today are these Keep Me Dangling Earrings ($18)!?! When I went simple, I went real simple. It was just enough to tie in some red to not only match my lips but my Week O’Nautical Theme, red white and blue! You can shop these earrings, Make It Rich Lip Crayons and Lipclicks at http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com
For the rest of my beauty I just copied the black winged liner with Get In Line in Painted Black and black mascara with Lash Act in Blackest Black. I just added a bit of bronzer for definition with Bronze Pro all available at http://ahessinger.mymarstore.com To top it all off I used the feather pin from the Hold It Right There Pin Set ($12 at my eboutique) to keep things neat by keeping the bangs out of my face.
There’s my total look from head to toe for the first Week O’Nautical look for the week as we count down to the 4th of July! It may not necessarily be super nautical but it’s only day one and definitely is red white and blue and American beauty inspired! Be sure to check back all week for all my looks and a special Week O’Nautical edition of Wear and Share Wednesday with Jackie from Living After Midnight! (who might also be doing the ombre lips today on Living After Midnight!)
I’m not sure about you, but it’s not even officially summer yet and I’m already in desperate need of a summer vacation! Since that’s not happening anytime soon I’m forced to take an instant vacation… WITH THE mark. INSTANT VACATION MARRAKESH CAPSULE COLLECTION! Alright, so not exactly the same thing, but this capsule collection has everything you need to be instantly chic on a real vacation or for a more realistic stay-cation.
If this total look doesn’t put your mind instantly in vacation mode then I don’t know what will!
This look is definitely not something I normally would pick out or wear BUT after seeing it so effortlessly on others and after falling in love with the complete thought behind this capsule collection I had to jump out of my black and white box. So glad I did because this look is the PERFECT summer look! Especially for summer BBQ’s because its flowy fit allows for big meals 😉 wink wink! My total look all can be purchased at my eBoutique: http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger and consists of the Exotic Ease Maxi Dress ($34), Mesh Together Necklace ($28), Big Mix Up Bracelets ($20), Take Your Time Watch ($40), Swing By Earrings ($18), Stack and Style Rings ($18) and the Stand Back Heels ($38). (The orange belt is part of the Belt Trio from mark. that’s been in and out of the sale section at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger)
To take it to total look level have to do exotic inspired makeup! I used the Instant Vacation Marrakesh beauty products to create my look. Really its all about the eyes with this look! If you remember, I already introduced the Marrakesh collection beauty here, so I used those same products and created a more dramatic look. I used the Exotic Eye Trio ($14) with the gold shade all over my lid, followed with the green shade on the outer edge with empahsis in the crease and the orangey shade just on the outside corner above the green shade. To line the eyes I used the included brush, wet it, then lined the top lashes and tightlined my bottom waterline. Who would of thought eyeshadow could make this dramatic of a line!?! This formula wet is FANTASTIC and really brings out the gold. To finish off the eyes I used a thin line of Get In Line in Painted Black on top and a coat of Lash Act in Blackest Black. I highlighted my cheeks and eyebrow bone with the Exotic Beauty Face Mosaic Pallet ($16). I used a bit of Bronze Pro on my cheeks just for definition since the look is focused on the eyes and a nude lip. All the products used are available at my eBoutique: http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger
To complete the look beach waves were DEFINITELY in order! On wet hair I just scrunched away with mark. Curl Commander Curl and Wave Defining Gel ($16) and a few spritzes of Curl to Curl Reactivate and Define Mist ($14). Then through out the day if things start to get frizzy or messy just spray some more Curl to Curl and scrunch. If things get really bad, wet hands and scrunch, repeat as many times as necessary. This is seriously the easiest way to get beach waves I’ve found, and the most successful! You can get Curl Commander and Curl to Curl at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger
Follow it all up with a few sprays of the Instant Vacation Marrakesh Fragrance and you’re all set! Since I’m not taking a real vacation anytime soon, I’m taking an Instant Vacation with this look! Plan an awesome stay-cation by the pool, lake, beach, etc… or even just in the back yard. Take the Marrakesh theme a step further and have a bbq complete with exotic foods, floor pillows, candle light or a bon fire/fire pit and some of your favorite people. Put yourself in vacation mode… especially since you’ll already look the part!
