Leopard, and Snake and Zebra, OH MY!

Leopard, and Snake and Zebra, OH MY!

Leopard, and Snake and Zebra, OH MY!

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, animal prints are a huge trend right now. They were hot in the summer and even hotter for fall. You’ll see some sort of version at pretty much every retailer. The thing with animal prints, they’re kinda are always in, just how you wear them fluctuates. Which means now is a great time to get some pieces that will be super trendy now but also last in your wardrobe for years to come. Here are a few suggestions on how to shop and wear the trend:

Leopard Print

Leopard Print

Leopard: A leopard piece is the way to go If you don’t really think yourself as trendy but you like the trends.  Or, if you’re someone who hates the trend when they first come out, but then end up liking it once you see it all over (guilty!).  Leopard works really well for fall because its already set in fall colors with the browns, taupes, blacks and creams.  I suggest finding a leopard blouse in a soft flowy material.  You can dress up a pair of jeans or wear it with some white shorts for a late summer look.   Come actual fall pair with a boyfriend cardigan or with your fav moto/leather/jean jacket for a cool girl appeal.  A leopard blouse always works well for workwear too.  Be trendy by pairing it with a tie waist cropped pant in blush.  Once this of the moment trend dies down a leopard blouse will still work well in your closet especially if you’re just pairing it with a black pant/skirt for work or a dark denim for casual wear.  If you want something a little more trendy the oversized leopard print cardigans are huge!  Nordstrom’s version sold out but the one on Amazon everyone is grabbing.  I also really like the black and cream/white leopard prints as a take that not everyone is wearing…

Snakeskin Trend

Snakeskin Trend

Snakeskin:  Now snakeskin is like the uber-trendy trend right now.  So if you want to be in, then snakeskin it is.  You’ll see snakeskin right now in everything… I mean everything!  From trench coats to shoes to bags to joggers… snakeskin everything!  But, because of this, you can find some really cool pieces, like a red snakeskin printed bodysuit I picked up from Express which is a total fun twist on the trend.  What I recommend shopping for though, is a pair of snakeskin boots!  These are something that will work in your wardrobe for years to come!  For you regular trendy people, get an ankle boot.  Wear it with white jeans and a white tank for a wear now look and then wear it with black jeans and a black tee come actual fall.  For you super trendy folks, get a pair of tall OTK snakeskin boots! Wear them with a t-shirt dress or a band graphic tee and shorts for a late summer look.  Come fall pair them with a sweater dress and a trench or the classic leggings/tee/jacket combo.  Even wear them with a pencil skirt for a wear to work look.  For the not-so-trendy shop for a pair of snakeskin flat mules or loafers.  Just a pop of snakeskin that keeps you on trend but not by too much and a style you can wear to work to running errands to casual outings.

Snakeskin and Puppy Booties ;)

Zebra Print

Zebra Print

Zebra:  If you don’t want to be wearing the same trend as every girl on IG then zebra is the way to go.  Just as in as leopard/snakeskin but a little different, and a little harder to find so you’ll stand out in a different way.  If you want to be even more mega trendy, pattern mix it with other animal prints, I especially like it with a tiger print or giraffe print.  Right now shop for a slinky midi skirt in a zebra print.  The leopard version is all over the place, but a zebra print is a more unique alternative.  It’s really wearable and on trend with just a white tee and sneakers, but I would wear it with heels… you know me.  Come fall, throw on a denim jacket for weekend, a cardigan for work, or a leather jacket and black heels for a night out.  This Ann Taylor Zebra Print Skirt, it’s the perfect transitional piece plus it’s one you could wear 10 years ago and one you could wear in 10 more years.  With all these animal print pieces a nice fabric in a sophisticated style will allow you to get more wear out of the pieces for years to come.

Tee/Layered Necklaces – Avon; Skirt – Ann Taylor; Sandals – Marshall’s

Fun fact about me, zebra’s are my favorite animal.  With that being said, I don’t really like a zebra print unless its done extremely tasteful.   That’s the trick to wearing animal print find it in luxe fabrics and fits that will read classy not trashy and then have fun with it with what you pair it with.  Now they become pieces that last beyond the trend!  What animal print pieces do you have your eye on?

PS:  I have a great neutral makeup look that works with all these looks, and transitions into the fall.  If you want to see more leave me a comment!

Week O’Nautical – White Hot August

Things about me:  I love any reason to theme out my day.  I love August aka the birthday month.  This year I themed out my August as white hot.  What does that entail you ask?  Buying and wearing white things.  It all started with my hunt for a new purse and coming across this white MK bag at the beginning of the month… on clearance at Marshalls!  I decided there it was going to be a #whitehotaugust!  I’ve been wearing my whitest of whites, painting my nails white, even obsessing over my new white and black new car interior.  So when I was shopping for birthday outfits I ordered this white dress, however my plans didn’t really involve activities functional for a dress.  Now that it’s Week O’Nautical I have the chance to take this LWD out for a spin as we count down to LDW!

Maybe because its been 100 degrees out but I’ve been wearing flat slide sandals like its my job!  I’ve just not been feeling the heels lately… who am I?!?  Good thing a good LWD works so many ways, heels/flats/sandals/booties you name it goes.  A LWD will always be a year round item for me but I’m maximizing them before Labor Day for Week O’Nautical and it’s been white hot!

Word on These Mattitude Liquid Lipsticks: LOVE 'EM!

Word on These Mattitude Liquid Lipsticks: LOVE ‘EM!

Word of Alicia:  Liquid lipsticks have been on the scene for a minute, proving they’re not just a trending item but one here to stay.  People love them for the long wear and color payoff but hate them for making them look like they have perma-chapped lips.  Which is why they were really popular among the young crowd, a crowd without aging, wrinkled, dry and/or cracked lips.  I’ve pretty much not been a fan of liquid lipsticks for that exact reason, my lips are always dry and liquid lipsticks made them look thin and gross, so with this launch I was weary.  I got my hands on 3 shades, a neutral, a bold and a classic red, pretty much one to represent each of the major lip options.  All 3 applied really smoothly both thanks to the formula and the doe foot applicator that has a little well to help get just the right amount of product.  All 3 wore really well and were very comfortable and did not dry out my lips even more nor did they make them look miserable.  I was so pleased with the formula and application that I will be picking up the rest of the shades.

Word of Alicia:  The Anew Vitamin C Warming peel is my new holy grail!  It instantly transforms my skin.  I use it 1-2 times a week for instantly smoother, refined, brighter, tighter and all around better skin.  When I use it I can not get over how great my skin feels let alone looks.  I typically use this warming peel in the shower in the am but I use the cleanser, moisturizer and Anew Vitamin C Serum at night.

The Warming Peel is my new HOLY GRAIL

The Warming Peel is my new HOLY GRAIL

The Anew Vitamin C Warming Peel applies like a gritty mask.  You can apply it to dry or wet skin, like I said I apply it in the shower on wet skin.  Water activates the warming sensation so I lightly massage with wet hands until that sensation fades.  Then I treat it like a normal gritty scrub focusing on problem areas like around the nose and T-Zone, “scrubbing” for about 30 – 45 seconds.  Rinse off and instantly transformed skin!

Shoes that are HOT for the Summer

Shoes that are HOT for the Summer

Shoes that are HOT for the Summer

We all know I have too many shoes. But let’s also be real, I’m going to buy more shoes. I’ve been stalking the trends, fashion-y girls on Instagram and what’s been hot in the stores. Some of these shoes I’ve already nabbed up, others are on the wishlist, but regardless these are what shoes are HOT for summer.

Flatforms

Flatforms

Flatforms – Flats + Platforms = Flatforms.  These have been around for the last few years and are still going strong.  Basically because you get the height of a heel and the comfort of a flat making them versatile and walkable.  I like these for summer events like concerts and fairs.  They look good with summer dresses or casual shorts.  I picked up these raffia ones from Shoedazzle.

Vinyl

Vinyl

Clear Vinyl – I’m not sure what the exact name of this trend is but basically a shoe with a clear vinyl strap, usually in a 2 strap design one thick one thin, but there are a couple variations.  I’ve seen more of these in a heel but also some flat sandals or even wedges if that’s more your gig.  I’m stalking these ones from DSW but I’ve also seen some good versions at Express.

Square Toed Sandals

Square Toed Sandals

Square Toe Sandals – Carrie Bradshaw fans unite!  The square toe sandal circa late 90’s is updated for us now.  This version from Zara has been dubbed the “it” sandal of the summer but honestly I’m seeing more of that vinyl trend IRL!

Slide Sandal

Slide Sandal

Flat Sandal Slide – This has been big for a bit too, and also mega functional.  I was OBSESSED with this look at the end of the summer last year and picked up two key versions; A  snakeskin slide from Sam Edlerman and a crystal embellished slide from Express.

Athletic Slide

Athletic Slide

Athletic Slides – Or pool slides, whatever term you like.  If you are an athleisure kind of person then you need this.  I personally want to get those old school Adidas ones that I had in the 7th grade, Adidas Adissage.  Confession, I only got rid of them like 2 yrs ago because they were warped from the hot CA sun.  Oh brings back memories of obsessing over them in the Delia’s catalog and finally convincing Mom to get them for me from Kohl’s.  To bring things full circle I better order them for in-store pickup from Kohl’s right now, I’m sure they have a coupon ;  *UPDATE*  The husband got me some!  Score!

Ew... crocs...

Someone has a case of the Mondays…

You know what’s even hotter than these summer shoes?  Summer shoes on sale!  Because I’m JUST now getting around to this blog post most of the summer fashion is on major sale to make room for back to school shopping!  Between Amazon Prime Day and all the other retailers trying to match them you can DEF score some major deals.

Let’s give this style a trial for Week O’Nautical!  Today’s look comes from my Express Style Trial box! I’ve been wanting to try a clothes rental subscription for awhile and finally bit the bullet and tried the subscription rental offering from Express… think Rent the Runway only with Express.  I’ll do a full review on the whole experience after I get my 2nd box but until then this little jumpsuit number is a perfect piece for July!

Perfect Jumpsuit for July

Perfect Jumpsuit for July

The Express Stripe Square Neck Jumpsuit is super fun in red, black and white stripes with a culotte cropped leg.  It is a one and done kind of situation with easy pull on pull off for bathroom breaks.  It handled the summer hear really nicely too.  This one is currently on clearance too!

I can *almost* see that long weekend!

I can *almost* see that long weekend!

I thought it gave some Americana vibes so I really picked it out for this week.  I paired it with my black tortoise shell jewelry from Avon and some striped wedges for an elevated casual look.  I wore this to work but I work in a very relaxed dress code kind of place, but you could easily throw a black blazer or sweater over it or even a white collared blouse under it.

A Bit of that 90's Vibe

A Bit of that 90’s Vibe

Too keep it more functional I paired my mini black backpack the husband got me with it, perfect for trotting around BBQ’s and going to watch fireworks.  I wore my walkable wedges but this would look cute with a flat slide too (I have these ones in mind from Steve Madden at DSW)

Makeup Look To Master: The Quickie

Makeup Look To Master: The Quickie

Makeup Look To Master: The Quickie

Even if you are not a perpetually late person like me, you need to master the quickie!  From my 5 makeup looks to master the quickie is the easiest and most necessary!  Need something you can quickly do to feel good and look good. Your quickie makeup look has to be quick and easy and with no-fail products!

Easy Breezy Word of Alicia

Easy Breezy Word of Alicia

I have a few of these quickie techniques that I rotate, based on scenario and what products I have at hand… aka what’s already in my purse, what’s on top of my makeup bag if I’m home, what activity I’m doing, going to work/going to the store/etc…  For this look I went with my lashes and lips technique.

Quick and Easy Makeup

Quick and Easy Makeup

On my face I just used concealer, concentrating on under eyes, around my nose and chin.  (I’m using a discontinued one so currently on the hunt for a new one, spam me with your favorites!)  I usually keep a mini blush in my purse right now its a mini Nars Laguna Bronzer and Orgasm Blush which I swirled together and lightly applied.  For eyes it’s just lots of mascara with the Avon Love at First Lash Mascara.  I kinda apply it messy so the transfer kinda darkens the lash line like a liner would.  And then seal the deal with a bright lipstick, Avon True Color Nourishing Lipstick in Dragonfruit.  Quick and Easy.

Messy Mascara = Prentend Liner

Messy Mascara = Prentend Liner

It’s the bright bold lip that makes this looked so finished and polished.  If I have an ounce more of time and a good mirror I’ll do my eyeliner with my Avon SuperExtend Liquid Liner Pen (see review here).  Gets me closer to my Everyday Slay look.  Nice thing about being an Avon lady is I always have those little lipstick bullets in a pocket, drawer, bag, somewhere so I can get this quick look very easily.

Lip of the Day: Avon True Color Nourishing Lipstick in Dragonfruit

Lip of the Day: Avon True Color Nourishing Lipstick in Dragonfruit

This is also the technique I used for my beach makeup, only I use a waterproof mascara and wear a tinted lip balm instead of lipstick and more bronzer than blush.  But real quick my earrings are from the Julia X Avon collection which is coming back to the outlet next week so be sure to check out http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger for them and for my Avon makeup products I used in this look!  Be sure to keep following along my 5 makeup looks to master series here on the blog because all these selfies have me like…

The Truth of Taking Selfies

Makeup Look To Master: Everyday Slay

Makeup Look To Master: Your Everyday Slay

Makeup Look To Master: Your Everyday Slay

The everyday makeup look is the hardest to perfect in my opinion, which is probably why mine is ever changing.  Not only do you need to find the best flattering shades, you also need to find the best formulas for your skin type and that work with your lifestyle… not to mention techniques and trends!  No one wants to look like they’re doing the same look they did when they first started wearing and experimenting with makeup.

First, determine what your everyday looks like.  What features you want to highlight, what products you like to use. Like for me, I like the look of a heavier eye and I don’t really like to wear foundation, so my look is going to be a more complicated eye look and a simpler face look.  For my lifestyle I need a look that works for my 9-5 that’s business casual, along with some after work and weekend casual actives.  Additionally, most of the year its super hot so I need something that doesn’t melt/sweat off and can handle my large pores.

My Go-To Everyday Makeup

My Go-To Everyday Makeup

Now that I’ve determined what my needs are, its time to slay!  I kid, I kid… I don’t slay I just like that it kinda rhymes… Anywho, I start with skincare straight out of the shower, a serum, eye cream and moisturizer.  Right now I’m using the Avon Anew Dual Elixir, the Anew Hydra Fusion Eye Serum and the Anew Ultimate Day Cream with SPF 25.

To battle my large pores and help battle the hot temps my face makeup starts with a primer, Ulta Poreless Face Primer.  Even though I said I don’t like foundation I’ve been wearing the Avon Magix Tinted Moisturizer in Light Medium.  It doesn’t feel like a foundation, or look like one, just blurs my imperfections and evens my skin tone all while looking natural.  Next, I follow up  with concealer under my eyes, on lids and on nose.  I use a fluffy brush and apply bronzer on the top of cheeks and forehead followed by blush on the apples of my cheeks.  Right now I’m using up my mark. Hooked Up Bronzer and been loving the Avon Blush Palette  from the spring.

Pinky Neutral Eyes and Liquid Liner

Pinky Neutral Eyes and Liquid Liner

For eyes, I stick to neutral pinks and taupes that are cool toned for my everyday.  Lately my go-to is a taupe shade in the transition area (from this holiday palette) and the Avon Glimmershadows in Rose Gold all over my lid and underneath.  From that same holiday palette I use a shimmery white to highlight my inner corners and brow bone.  I top it off with a winged eye using the Avon True Color SuperExtend Precise Liquid Liner in Black and Love and First Lash Mascara.  On my lips my everyday is some sort of balm or nourishing lipstick or oil, here I’m wearing some Burts Bee’s Lip Balm.

Just some side eye and RBF

Just some side eye and RBF

This is typically my everyday, all I do is tweak this look.  I tweak the eyeshadow colors and the lips most often.  Same eyeliner, same mascara, same blush/bronzer duo.  If I’m feeling really extra I’ll add a contour or highlight or maybe do my brows but for the most part this is it and easily re-createable even if you aren’t a liquid winged eyeliner fan, just swap in your fav black eyeliner (Glimmersticks are really easy to use!)

You can shop most of my go-to products that I used for this look at my eBoutique and today, June 6th, you can get FREE SHIPPING with a $25 order!  Perfect time to pick up some new makeup that are at lower price points.  I’d also suggest getting some Bug Guard as its on sale right now too!

This was a lot of words of/from alicia and very few and very similar pictures so if you read this entire post, kudos to you!

Week O’Nautical Wants

Week O'Nautical Wants

Week O’Nautical Wants

Week O’Nautical is year has fallen on a weird weather pattern, which is probably more in-line with the rest of the country’s weather normally.  Typical spring weather that can range from cool to warm rain to sun all in one day.  What I’ve found this year in figuring out what to wear is that I really want some nautical pieces that work for these gray days… more white bottoms than 1 pair of jeans, more layering pieces, and more beach sweaters.  I have a ton of looks pinned over on my Week O’Nautical board but I don’t have the supporting items to re-create them.  So, here’s what’s on my want list…

A Classic Navy Blazer with Gold Buttons – I kick myself for not taking advantage of that employee discount and getting one of these when I worked at Brooks Brothers, but young 20’s Alicia didn’t care about that…

A White Dress Slack – I’ve had plenty of these throughout the years but none that fit at the moment.

A Beach Sweater – Again, I’ve had variations of these in the past (see here) but time for an updated one. like the oversized striped ones that have been trending.

Star Printed Jeans – I’ve had my eye on these plenty of times, basically since Stella McCartney’s went super popular, but never thought they fit in during my typical warm springs, and hot summers.  Boy was I wrong…
