Week O’Nautical – In The Navy (Romper)

Nautical Navy Romper Look

Nautical Navy Romper Look

In the Navy, you can sail the 7 seas… or celebrate Week O’Nautical!  I was inspired by Khloe Kardashian’s navy jumpsuit look (see here and here), but I made it more practical for everyday wear for hanging out with friends and watching the fireworks!

mark. Easy Does It Romper

mark. Easy Does It Romper

The key elements from Khloe’s look were the navy jumpsuit, textured high ponytail, navy eyes and killer horn  hoop earrings! Because I don’t have a Kardashian wardrobe, lifestyle or stylists I channel the same vibe with the mark. Easy Does It Romper.  It’s way more functional for everyday and like the name says a really easy piece.  I absolutely love that it has pockets!  The easy fit has me wearing this piece all summer long.  Don’t be afraid of the 1-piece, it’s actually really flattering and easy to wear!

Khloe Kardashian Navy Inspired Look

To make it a little more nautical I added white and gold elements.  I didn’t have killer horn hoop earrings but I did have some chain detailed oversized hoops (mark.)!  Add a long necklace and white hobo bag (both mark.) and some white lace and gold pumps (Shoedazzle) and I had a more nautical take on Khloe’s look.

Big Hoops and Hobo

Big Hoops and Hobo

Khloe has some serious mermaid eyes going on, but I went a little lighter for day using the mark. On The Dot Smokey Eye Pallet.  Paired with nude lips (mark. All Butter Now in Bare All) and some bronzed contoured (barely) cheeks (mark. Buenos Aires Vibe Caliente Glow Brozner and Blush – see here).

Navy Eyes with mark. On The Dot Smokey

Like I said it’s been mega hot here (and majorly windy during these pics!) so there was no way I was going to do a major hair style… even though Khloe’s pony is most definitely way more curled and teased I went the easy route.  On wet hair I used mark. That’s Beachy Texturizing spray.  Once It dried a little I swept it up all into a high pony and secured with an elastic.  Final step was to take a piece of hair from underneath and wrap around to disguise the elastic.  It was the perfect hairdo for a hot summer day!

What to wear to work: Plaid Pant Suit

What to wear to work: Plaid Pant Suit

Every morning after hitting snooze a few times to my 3 (yes 3) different alarms and struggle to pull myself out of bed, head to the Keurig for my tea and then to the couch to turn on The Today Show to lounge myself awake.  I like the mindless entertainment with a dash of news and some weather forecasting to get me ready for the day.  As I was watching one day I noticed one of the reporters, Tamron Hall, looked amazingly put together in a glenn plaid pant suit.  Usually the girls are in their business casual dresses or blouse and skirt combo, but this day Tamron stood out!  She was so on point with her look that I just had to re-create it!

Here’s a look (a crappy pixilated screen cap of the broadcast) at Tamron’s look:

Tamron Hall's Plaid Today Show Look

Tamron Hall’s Plaid Today Show Look

Let’s analyze shall we… grey glenn plaid ankle pants, 5-button vest over a crisp white button down with some fun broaches for interest, capped off with some killer pointed toe pumps.  The look is a feminine and fitted twist on the menswear suit, perfect for the office!  Shopping my closet I was able to replicate to the best of my ability.

Plaid Pant Suit For Work

Plaid Pants and Vest from H&M

I had this charcoal plaid vest and pant pairing from H&M (old) which embodied her tailored menswear look.  Even though I could of worn one of my Brooks Brothers non-irons (last seen here) I decided to go with a sheer white blouse with a long shirt tail.

Suiting Style

For visual interest I went with an oversized pearl bracelet set (BeBe).  The accessories still have that old school feel with a modern twist like Tamron’s broaches achieved.  For my shoes I went with the mark. Sassy Stepper Pumps.  Killer shoes with a pointed toe, snakeskin detailing and a menswear vibe!

Tamron Hall helped me get ready for the day in more ways than one!  I appreciate her perfectly tailored pieces and stepping out of the so run of the mill biz casual dresses for a look that was on point!  I would love to see more power pieces like suiting separates on the ladies that trend, but I guess I’ll just have to start with my own look!  Thanks Tamron for the inspiration, and frankly, making my day with an outfit.  The power of fashion.

Lauren Conrad posted this pretty up on her Instagram page and I was immediately smitten, the soft shades, the gorge trimmings and that nail!  A small pop of sparkly goodness that I HAD to recreate!  It looks like a white base shade with pink undertones and a glittered textured top coat like Essie LuxeEffects (which I’ve been known to rock).

For my recreation I used Julep Dana as my base and Avon Dazzlers Top Coat in Disco Ball.  I think the outcome was definitely spot on!  I could of gone with Avon Dazzlers Top Coat in Show Stopper Copper to look a bit more like hers, but I liked the silver.  I have many Essie LuxeEffects and I have to say these Avon Dazzlers are giving them a run for their money… literally, considering these Avon polishes are only $6.

Valentine’s Day Makeup

Valentine's Day Makeup Look

Valentine’s Day Makeup Look

Need a quick, easy and totally achievable makeup look for Valentine’s Day!?  No worries, because I have the BEST option that is not only easy but definitely date approved!  As much as we want to believe most fellas aren’t into heavy makeup looks, so as much fun it is to play with a super bright blue smokey eye that’s better left for girls night.  A killer Valentine’s Day look needs to be a little sweet, a little sultry and glowing!

Get The Look For Valentine's Day

mark. Touch and Glow for an easy makeup look!

mark. Touch and Glow for an easy makeup look!

To Get The Look:

1.  Start with a good concealer!  Sorry, under eye circles will just never be a “in look.”  I used Avon Extra Lasting Concealer in Light Medium.  Preface it with foundation if you’re a foundation kind of person, I typically am not.

2.  Bronzer.  Contour the cheekbones with a little bronzer since a little color in February is necessary.  I used Avon Glow Bronzing Powder.

3.  Touch and Glow.  If you don’t know what mark. Touch and Glow is then get with the program!  It’s the most wonderful (and highly acclaimed) cream to powder multi-tasking pallet out there (and way cheaper than Bobbi Brown Shimmer Cubes!).  Use the top left shade all over the lid then use the bottom left shade to highlight the brow bone and inner corner.  I prefer just to use my finger for this, it works the best for me!  THEN swirl all the shades together with a blush brush and apply the apple of the cheeks.  LASTLY I like to use a foundation brush and just highlight the top of the cheek bones and above the brow bone with a little more touch and glow.  So basically, mark. Touch and Glow is the secret to a killer Valentine’s Day look!

4.  Finish off the eyes with winged out liner using mark.’s new cream liner, Saved By The Gel in Black Board.  Use the included brush for a decently thick line across the upper lash line then flip the brush over and used the angled side to get the perfect flicked out wing.  Get the lots of lashes look with mark. Lash Act in Blackest Black, and don’t forget to curl those lashes first!

5.  Lastly finish off your look with a light pink lip in mark. All Butter Now Lip Treat in Baby Me.  What’s amazing about All Butter Now is it wears like a balm so a soft moisturized lip with a great color payoff.  What could be more perfect for kissable lips for Valentine’s Day!?

Christmas Makeup – Emerald Eyes

Under a week until Christmas and the excitement is building!  I CAN’T WAIT for that warm and fuzzy feeling that only Christmas Eve magic can achieve!  I still have shopping to do and gifts to wrap but one thing for sure is I have plenty of inspiration for my Christmas look.  I have ideas on what to wear (here, here, here, and here!.. whew!), what to do with my nails (here and here) and now a makeup look perfect for Christmas through New Years!

Emerald Eyes and Melon Lip

Emerald Eyes and Melon Lip with mark. On The Dot Smokey Pallet

Inspired by Chloe Morello’s look I recreated an emerald eye with a melon lip, perfect for this holiday season!  I’m completely different tone than Chloe, plus I like a winged liner and don’t want to spend $30 on a single eyeshadow (that I can’t even find by the way, I looked).  Instead, I rather spend $16 on a whole pallet to recreate the look using mark. On The Dot Smokey Pallet.  Here’s my take on recreating an emerald eye for the holidays.

Eyes:  With a smokey dark eye, its best to do the eyes first, before the rest of the face for easy cleanup of any fall out.  Start with a primer, Avon Eyeshadow Primer.  Then using the included sponge applicator use shade 1 from the mark. On The Dot Smokey Pallet (top left) all over your lid.  Use an eyeshadow brush and blend in shade 2 (top middle).  Use a stiff brush (I used the mark eyeliner brush) in shade 3 (top right) and accent the outer v in the darkest green shade.  Use a soft blending brush to blend in the socket and right outside of it so there are no harsh lines (I used Avon’s Pro Crease Brush).  This next step is optional, but dab on a little gold eyeshadow concentrating in the middle of the eye ( I used mark. Eye Dream Of Glam pallet for this).  Like I said, I like a winged eyeliner so I used that same eyeliner brush that I used in my outer v for my eyeliner by wetting the brush and dipping it in shade 3 (top right) and shade 9 (bottom right) in that same mark. On The Dot Smokey Pallet to line my eyes and wing it out.  Under my eyes I used a little bit of shade 2 smoked out around my bottom lashes.  For the last finishing tough I highlighted my inner corner and brow bone with shade 7 (bottom left, white).

Face:  Avon Ideal Flawless Liquid Foundation ($12) with a little conturing using Avon Glow Bronzing Powder and mark. Just Blushing in Cameo.  For a highlighter, mark. Touch and Glow just on the high points of my cheeks.

Lips:  A more matte or creamy natural lip with melon tones looks really good with this eye.  Plus if you’re wearing black it really makes the whole look pop!  Use Avon Ultra Color Absolute Lipstick in Creamy Melon.

All it takes is a little inspiration for the perfect look to come together.  I love love love the look Chloe created but my take works for me.  Are you inspired to re-create this look?  $16 for a whole pallet to re-create this look and more!  You can get the mark. On The Dot Smokey Pallet and all the mark. and Avon products I used here:  http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger  and don’t forget about that FREE 2 DAY SHIPPING promo code 2DAYSHIP going on now!  Get the products you need to finish out your holiday beauty look!

Avon Nail Art Design French Tips

For my holiday party this weekend I’ll be wearing these Avon Nail Art Design French Tips in Let It Snow and using them again in Tartan for Christmas Eve!  All you do is use your favorite shade as your base.  Then apply the nail art strip after it’s dried.  Place it higher on the nail if you want a typical french tip look or lower to show just a little for a half moon mani look.  Could even just use these just as an accent nail.  Either way they’re fun and festive and a level of detailed design I could never do on own!  Aaaaand they’ve been marked down to $2.99 so take advantage of that free 2-day shipping and get these NOW!  (http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger)

10.  Nude with gold tips.

7.  Green and gold.

Our friends over at Sealaura already showed us how chic an all white mani can be, but let’s step it up a notch with a snowy white look!  Top Avon’s Gel Finish in Iceberg White with Essie LuxeEffects in Shine Of The Times for a glistening snowy white look… and maybe if you want, do a red accent nail like I did!

5.  Santa Nail Art!

Santa Nail Art

Santa Nail Art

This one looks easy enough to recreate!  Basically do a red nail with white french tip.  Where they meet draw a thin line in silver.  (Try using an old liquid eyeliner brush to get a super thin line!)  To do your Santa accent nail start by doing the beard first.  Let that dry, then do the red santa hat by just making a thick line.  After that dries, make small dots in a row for the top of the hat.  Dot on black eyes (try using a toothpick) and the nose and you’re done!  Seal it all with a topcoat!

4.  Blue Christmas – Avon Gel Finish Winter 2014 Shades

For your non-typical holiday mani I’m loving these shades from Avon.  You already know I’ve been digging Iceberg White, but Inked Out and Alaska (now only $4.99!) are also perfect wintery shades.  Blue for the holidays has become a favorite and not just for Hanukkah!  If you want to make it a little more festive, top it with a silver glitter topcoat.

3.  Gold Stripes with Julep December Box:  Classic With A Twist

Mani Monday: Berry Mixed Mani

Berry Mixed Mani

Berry Mixed Mani

In the summertime I can not get enough summer time berries.  I’m talking strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries… all fresh from the local farm’s stands on the side of the roads.  I make an effort to drive home the long way just so I can stop by and grab a bunch.  So I figured, lets apply my summertime berry love to my nails and make it fun with a mixed mani!

Berry deails with Avon Berry Smooth Nailwear Pro Nail Enamel

Berry deails with Avon Berry Smooth Nailwear Pro Nail Enamel

I started with the perfect berry shade, Avon Berry Smooth Nailwear Pro Nail Enamel on my thumb middle and ring.  I followed up with Julep Oscar on my pointer for summertime sparkle.  For the black I used mark. Nailed It in Tuxedo and used the Avon Nail Tool to easily do the black polka dots.

I was inspired by Dollhouse Nails NZ’s look they did, only swapping out the neon purple for my berry shade.  See the pinspiration here!  They have the BEST inspiration, I just lover her work.  If I’m ever in New Zealand I’ll most certainly drop by.  Until then I’ll just copy cat her looks, Alicia style.

In full summertime sun!

I think this look would be great for transitioning into fall too!  Plus I love the way it matched my new mark. Gleam Weaver Bracelet ($28)!  Have you tried a mixed mani this summer?  What pinspiration for nails are you loving?
