Week O’Nautical – Buttoned Up

Week O'Nautical - Buttoned Up

Week O’Nautical – Buttoned Up

What’s red and white and blue all over?  A patriotic Red White and Blue Week O’Nautical OOTD!  That kinda works right!?  Either way Week O’Nautical is sailing through this short work week as the long holiday weekend is so close I can taste it!

A Little Inspo from Emily Gemma

A Little Inspo from Emily Gemma

If you follow Emily Gemma of the Sweetest Thing Blog then you know she loves a good hat, ESPECIALLY a good Fiddler Baker Boy cap!  It was her post (see here) that had me smitten with this red and white striped hat last year.  I should of copy cat-ted her look there when Memorial Week O’Nautical was cold and rainy, but of course I thought about that after the fact.  So I decided in my head I’ll recreate this look for the 4th but now the summer heat is here and there’s no way I’m wearing jeans, but a denim button front dress I can do!  So I took her flow with the white tee and jeans and put my word on it with this Express Button Front Denim Mini Dress (now marked down to clearance!)

I love a little white dress (as seen here, here and here) and this one was a welcome addition to the LWD family.  The square neck and button front details are super on trend.  The denim material is a little easier to wear too not getting as dirty as quickly.  And white always feel perfect for summer and for Week O’Nautical.

We’ll be heading out to watch some fireworks tonight so I’ll easily switch into some slides and be good to go for a festive casual night out!  Do you have any early 4th festivities this year?  Or you saving it all for the long weekend!?

Week O’Nautical – Style Trial

Let’s give this style a trial for Week O’Nautical!  Today’s look comes from my Express Style Trial box! I’ve been wanting to try a clothes rental subscription for awhile and finally bit the bullet and tried the subscription rental offering from Express… think Rent the Runway only with Express.  I’ll do a full review on the whole experience after I get my 2nd box but until then this little jumpsuit number is a perfect piece for July!

Perfect Jumpsuit for July

Perfect Jumpsuit for July

The Express Stripe Square Neck Jumpsuit is super fun in red, black and white stripes with a culotte cropped leg.  It is a one and done kind of situation with easy pull on pull off for bathroom breaks.  It handled the summer hear really nicely too.  This one is currently on clearance too!

I can *almost* see that long weekend!

I can *almost* see that long weekend!

I thought it gave some Americana vibes so I really picked it out for this week.  I paired it with my black tortoise shell jewelry from Avon and some striped wedges for an elevated casual look.  I wore this to work but I work in a very relaxed dress code kind of place, but you could easily throw a black blazer or sweater over it or even a white collared blouse under it.

A Bit of that 90's Vibe

A Bit of that 90’s Vibe

Too keep it more functional I paired my mini black backpack the husband got me with it, perfect for trotting around BBQ’s and going to watch fireworks.  I wore my walkable wedges but this would look cute with a flat slide too (I have these ones in mind from Steve Madden at DSW)

Week O’Nautical – Little Red Dress

Week O'Nautical - Little Red Dress

Week O’Nautical – Little Red Dress

Week O’Nautical is here for the short work week!  I’m counting down to the long weekend by theme-ing out my life in all things red white and blue with a loose – and I do mean loose – nautical vibe.  Last time, Memorial Week O’Nautical was all about the blues, but this 4th of July week we’re all about the red! Starting it all off with a Little Red Dress!

Red Dress For A Short Work Week

Little Red Dress – the Avon Myrna Dress

This little red dress was from the spring release via Avon which you might of seen me share on IG, but from the moment I ordered it I had nothing but Week O’Nautical OOTD thoughts on it.  A good red dress is a must in my closet.  I like this one because its off the shoulder which I love, even if I have to layer it with a bodysuit.  Its also lightweight, stretchy, kinda loose, kinda fitted and packable so perfect for summer trips!

Red White and Blue Wear To Work

Red White and Blue Wear To Work

For work I paired this with some nautical block heeled sandals (last seen here), a gold cuff and white hoop earrings all from Avon.  My bag is my new summer bag! I scored on a good deal on it at Marshall’s.  This Michael Kors metallic gold canvas bag with rope straps is the PERFECT for Week O’Nautical bag!  This is such a great summer work bag and I’m very pleased I found this gem.

Makeup Looks To Master – Seasonal Switch

Makeup Look To Master: Seasonal Switch

Makeup Look To Master: Seasonal Switch

Makeup Monday is our last installment in our Makeup Looks To Master series with a look at switching up your makeup for the season.  Just like our wardrobe our makeup wardrobe needs to be updated each season.  Not just for trends, but also for functionality!  In the fall/winter I tend to wear heavier makeup both in formulas and in colors, a lot of purples, smokey taupes and deep jewel tones.  Come spring I’m always looking to lighten and brighten so more highlighting and pinks and peaches.  In the summer it’s all about that bronze glow in formulas that can withstand the hot heat and sweating faces.

Bronzy and Glowy for the Summer

Bronzy and Glowy for the Summer

In the summer it all starts with the right base!  I may be able to use a lighter day moisturizer but I have to use a primer more than ever in the summer.  Perfect for summer is the Magix Face Perfector because it not only blurs my summer pores, it also has SPF 20 in it.  I’ll then use my concealer or my Magix Tint Tinted Moisturizer.  Mid-day I’ll need a powder touch up with some translucent powder or at least the use of some blotting sheets.

Functional for the hot heat

Functional for the hot heat

Functionally in the summer my makeup can’t be too heavy, it will just clog my pores.  I also prefer to use more summer friendly colors to make more of an impact and still look down for anything like a summer day is!  I tend to favor bronzer, glow-y products, bronzy brown shadows and simple glossy lips or a vibrant bold lip if I’m going out in a bright coral, orange or pink.  I’ve really been loving the Avon Dazzle Drops to add in some summer glow to my look.

Tip and Trick: Use your bronzer as your transition shade on your lid

Tip and Trick: Use your bronzer as your transition shade on your lid

A little summer makeup tip and trick is to use your bronzer as your transition shade on your eyes.  Take a fluffy eyeshadow brush and blend in the crease and under the eye, making sure there’s no harsh lines.  Then use a simple shade all over your lid, I used the taupe shade in the Berry Love Avon Eyeshadow Quad.  Finally, add a little bit of your Avon Dazzle Drops on the center of your eyelid for a easy and glowing summer makeup look.  Here I finished it all with Avon Crave Lip Gloss in Peach Bellini, which I think is the perfect summer lipgloss “flavor.”

The products I used in my Big and Bold post are also summer favorites!  I love a fun summer eyeshadow palette along with some big and bold summer color.  I know I don’t take the best makeup pictures, never have, never will but I hope you got the gist of how you can master 5 different takes on makeup and apply them to your life in a functional way!  Just to recap the 5 we have The Everyday Slay, The Quickie, Going Out, Big and Bold and lastly the Seasonal Switch we highlighted today.  Please reach out if you want any suggestions for mastering your makeup!

Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice

Happy first day of summer!  I couldn’t be more excited for long summer days.  I have myself a little dinner and a movie date night so why not wear a killer summer dress!  Summer dresses are my favorite, they’re easy breezy and go with any occasion, kinda like a summer day.

Summer Trends

Summer Trends

I hit a few trends with this black midi dress from Express; button front, ribbed and midi!  It’s appropriately called the Ribbed Button Front Midi Dress.  It actually was a spring item that went out of stock online.  When mom was out visiting we hit up the real legit mall and I was able to swoop it up  and it did not disappoint.  (Its back in stock online btw, and in 3 colors!)  I love it as a summer dress because its so light weight and easy to wear it will be the perfect thing for 100+ days we hit here in the summer.

Express Button Front Ribbed Midi Dress

Because it is such a thin material I felt more comfortable layering it over a strappy bra cami for work. I work in a causal office so summer dresses are allowed, however you could layer this over a white crew neck t-shirt for a 90’s look if you need more coverage.

Summer Obsess-ories!

Summer Obsess-ories!

Summer Solstice calls for summer accessories!  Boater Hat by LC Lauren Conrad and some raffia flatforms from Shoedazzle fit the bill.  My Avon Summer Sands jewelry collection was the perfect compliment on top for some more summer obsessories.

Wearing A Summer Jumpsuit For Work

Wearing A Summer Jumpsuit For Work

Wearing A Summer Jumpsuit For Work

It’s wear and share Wednesday and I’m wearing my newest favorite summer jumpsuit… to work!  Wearing a summer jumpsuit for work doesn’t really sound appropriate or professional.  However, it totally can be!

Avon Ella Jumpsuit

Avon Ella Jumpsuit

Let’s start with the jumpsuit… this pretty blue number is the Avon Ella Jumpsuit ($39.99).  It features a sleeveless design with a keyhole neckline and a wide cropped leg with elastic waist.  And it has pockets, anything with pockets in instantly better.  This is the same material of the palm print one I loved from last year (see here) but what makes this one more work appropriate is its simple clean design in a solid color.

For work I layered it with a sleeveless suiting vest in black.  The quality fabric keeps this looking professional while the sleeveless design keeps it functional for hot summer weather.  I anchored this look in black to add a layer of sophistication.  My black strappy sandal works with the shorter hem length over say a chunky shoe, and of course my black Movato watch always looks clean.  I also kept my jewelry simple and clean with these Julia pear shaped earrings and a single bangle.

This look really works for work and play.  Head to happy hour and loose the vest for a warm summer nights look.  I really love a bright blue paired with black but this would also look fresh with a clean white.  If your office is chilly then pair a regular blazer over this for a wear to work look.  It has a lot of flexibility in your working girl wardrobe.

You can shop this blue jumpsuit as my eBoutique as I know its going to be a summer must-have and only $39.99!  This is a summer trend you can get a lot of milage out of from work to weekend.  It looks just as cute with your favorite slide and straw bag for a summer road-trip or beach vaca!  For a little extra inspo see how some celebs are wearing the trend!

Dressing Up A T-Shirt Dress

Dressing Up A T-Shirt Dress

Dressing Up A T-Shirt Dress

One of my favorite styles in life is a T-Shirt Dress. I like the grab and go ease of one that works for pretty much any occasion, especially in Nor Cal.  Which is apparent in all these previous posts I’ve done wearing a t-shirt dress.  When I ordered the Avon Ella Dress I, at the time, had plans of wearing it for Easter, but when it arrived I realized it was a t-shirt dress!  I wanted something a little more formal but in the process I realized you can dress up t-shirt dress for church, work, baby showers, wedding showers, spring flings… you name it spring event… All while being comfy in a loose t-shirt!

Step 1: Shoes!

Step 1: Shoes!

Dressing up a t-shirt dress comes down to three things for me, shoes, accessories and a shaping layer.  Let’s start with the shoes... because let’s always start with the shoes!  In this case a classic nude patent pump from Nine West took my outfit more polished.  You could swap in your favorite classic flats with this one if you’re not a pump gal, or a clean nude heeled sandal for hotter weather.

Step 2: Accessories

Step 2: Accessories

Next up, accessories!  A t-shirt dress is the perfect canvas for all your fun accessories, in this case we want to dress it up so what better than pearls and rhinestones!?  My pearly set is from Avon (which sold out but is coming back in stock this summer!)  A bit on the statement side this pearly necklace really just stands out and turns my OOTD very pretty.

Step 3: Shaping Layer

Step 3: Shaping Layer

Lastly, a shaping layer.  What does that even mean?  It means that usually a t-shirt dress can be kinda shapeless, so, add in something that gives it some structure!  A jacket, a blazer, a cardigan or even a belt or scarf.  We’re looking to dress up a t-shirt dress so some structure does that.  The Avon Ella Dress has these fun ruffled sleeve details so I pulled out this long jacket/blazer with similar ruffled sleeve details in a perfect-for-spring blush color from Calvin Klein.  The pastel colors compliment while the jacket gives it that a polished finish.  Plus I like how the blush tone from the jacket pulls out the blush tone in the necklace.

How perfect is this look for any spring event!?  Even though I didn’t wear it for Easter I’ve been able too dress up this Ella dress or wear it casually.  This is the last campaign the Avon Ella Dress will be available so take advantage of such a versatile piece!  You can shop the Avon Ella Dress and pearly jewelry at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger
