4th of July Hangover – Nails and Week O’Nautical Nightcap

I know, its Tuesday… which means anything 4th of July vacation related is nothing more than a memory.  Well, a memory and some awesome pictures!  Since we’re (well I at least) am back to the normal grind I can take the time to reflect on the sparklers that were the 4th on a Wednesday followed by some fun and a trip to the coast.  Since my week O’Nautical kinda got interrupted by life here’s my looks from last week complied together!

4th Of July:

mani and my 'merica's

mani and my ‘merica’s

My Target find  for straight up mega patriotic shorts makes me so happy that all my America holidays will be filled with classic denim cutoff goodness!  So good they even have their own name, my ‘merica’s!  My nails looks like fun fireworks with China Glaze’s Love Marilyn an opaque glitter of red and silver.  Between my sister and I this shade has got some good use last Christmas but it works just as amazing in July!  Too bad this polish chips like a mo fo no matter what I do, so its really only good for one day, if it will even last that long!

And for fun here’s how I nightcapped my week o’nautical:

Fireworks with friends with some good ole’ America themed Budweiser tall cans and navy polka dotted corset from Tilly’s with white shorts from Guess and coral Rock Of Ages Necklace ($24)  from mark.

My 4th was kinda nautical since I spent the entire day in the pool finished off with my ‘merica’s and a red tank to set of fireworks and bbq before a night swim to end the night!  As for ending my holiday week we went camping on the coast in Dillon Beach where I tried to be nautical but it was so cold I basically lived in my North Face but at least my toes stayed nautical and festive in Essie’s Too Too Hot, the perfect summer bright red with a coral edge!

Week O’Nautical – White As A Sail

With the 4th falling on a Wednesday it really makes working on a Tuesday tough!  Helping me get through it is my Tuesday nautical look that pulls double duty!  A crisp lwd for work translating into play for some pre-4th activities.

This little white dress is a stiff cotton, somewhat reminiscent of a sail to me, which makes it automatically nautical.  It’s old from BeBe but you can recreate the look with a white full skirt and a white scoop neck tee tied off with a satin ribbon as a belt.  Then finish it off with nautical accessories!  You know how i mentioned I got that rope necklace in blue too in yesterday’s post, well here it is!  Doesn’t it just make this outfit nautical!  My other accessories include my new FAVORITE bag, the For Shore Bag from mark.  Its huge but lays well and perfect for summer in white with shiny gold accents, which also add to my nautical feel.  Also from mark. there’s of course my go to Borrowed From The Boys watch, Pretty Stellar Ring and Heat Wave Hoops (blue pair).  The shell bracelet is old from Cookie Lee.  This is one of those times I wish my patent red peeptoe pumps weren’t in desperate need of the cobbler, so instead I wore my light grey peeptoes with bright red toes by Essie in Too Too Hot!  The perfect summer red from last years summer collection by Essie.

You can actually see my earrings here, which can I say, these Heat Wave Hoops Set from mark. have been my summer go to!  They make a t-shirt and shorts instantly put together!  My camera isn’t great for representing my makeup look but went with bronzy cheeks, navy eyes and coral lips!

For face I used Bronze Pro and Touch and Glow Shimmer Cubes from mark.

For my eyes I used the Mini Mark. It Stick in Pink Opal from mark. as my base.  In my crease I used a matte navy shade from Revlon… BUT mark. is coming out with a whole slew of new i-mark shades including a matte navy!  Starting July 13th you’ll be able to get them early through me… so stay tuned!  I then lined my upper lashes with No Place To Run in Indigo followed with a thin line of liquid liner, Get In Line in Painted Black.  Curled my lashes with the mark. eyelash curler and Lash All You Want mascara.

For my lips I used Glow Baby Blow hook up lipgloss in m.powerment peach, which is currently on clearance at my eboutique for only $1.99!!!

Shop all the products used (except the revlon shadow) the For Shore Bag, Borrowed From The Boys Watch, Pretty Stellar Ring and Heat Wave Hoop Set at my eBoutique now!  http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com  As an added bonus you can get the For Shore Bag with a Juice Gem for only $19.99 in my private sale going on directly through me only!  Hit me up!

Week O’Nautical – 4th of July Edition

The summer is flying by, just like it does every year…  The 4th of July is days away and it feels like Memorial Day was just yesterday!  I’m not complaining because the 4th is my favorite summer holiday, it’s usually mega hot (unlike Memorial Day), there’s still plenty o’summer left (unlike Labor Day) and there’s fireworks (unlike any other holiday)!!!!!  Even though this year it falls on a Wednesday I’m still doing a week of nautical inspired looks!  Really a week plus, since last week I spent some time on holiday with fam bam on a houseboat, full of nautical looks carried all the way through this week…  which I’ll share later, but let’s start this 4th of July week with Monday off right!

Nautical and Neutrals

Nautical and Neutrals

Shinning Neutral Accents

Shinning Neutral Accents

Today’s nautical look consists of a white and navy striped dress from H&M from a few years back.  I’ve debated donating this dress multiple times, then this time of year rolls around and I’m SO glad I kept on to it.  Striped dresses are a dime a dozen so find one that works for you, because I consider it a wardrobe must have!  I accented with neutral accessories to keep the look clean.

My nautical rope necklace is a clearance find at Target (which I also got in blue, oopsies!) but how perfect is it for nautical looks!  Quick story… I saw this necklace on some chic at the bar way back in early early spring and thought it was SO crazy cute how she had it styled with a 3/4 sleeve white crewneck t-shirt, sailor shorts and bright patterned sky high wedges.  Then when I randomly saw it at Target the other day I was like, THERE’S THAT ROPE NECKLACE!!!!  And for how many times I’ve been to Target over the past months and NEVER saw it, it was week o’nautical destiny!

The rest of my accessories are from mark. of course!  Can’t do nautical without a shiny gold menswear watch with the Borrowed From The Boys Watch ($40).  The bracelets are a set of 4 mixed metal stretch bracelets, In The Mix Bracelets ($22) coming out July 13th.  Also debuting July 13th is my tiger eye ring, Ring Me Up Stretch Ring ($16).  I stacked in an extra bracelet from Express just for fun, the Mesh and Rhinestone Bracelet ($26.90).  The Catch Of The Day Clutch ($32) is a summer outfit go to and lastly my woven belt is also from mark. that’s been in and out of sale so check out my eBoutique for the latest http://ahessinger.mymarkstore.com

There’s just something about wearing a cool cotton sun dress that makes a summer day feel oh so perfect.  Especially when you can make it nautical!

Week O’ Nautical Day 4, Nautical Parisian Stripes

What’s black and white and “red” all over?  A newspaper…. and my outfit hahaha.  You know you chuckled… and also thought a zebra with a sunburn.

Week O' Nautical Day 4 Look

Week O’ Nautical Day 4 Look

Even though it’s getting a little too warm for pants I wanted to wear my red Columnist pants from Express with my black and white tank also from Express.  The Columnist fit of their pants is my favorite!  When they released the red suit last fall I was all over it, except I never got the jacket and didn’t get these pants until like Feb when they went on super clearance and I’m so glad I did.  When in doubt, wear red!  If you’re going for a colorful pant in your wardrobe I would suggest red.  It works year round, looks good on pretty much everyone and will get you noticed in a good way.  Plus it will match so much you already have and works for all your holiday dressing.  Except for St. Patrick’s day.  I don’t recommend wearing it with your green, since everyone will think you’re Christmas-ing it up.  I digress… back to my outfit…  the red pants also kinda look a little Parisian with the black and white striped top which is never a bad thing!

I coordinated my stripped top with my stripped shoes.  Now these shoes are from the Nine West outlet years and years ago and really have seen better days.  I’ve tried to doctor them but if I let you look closely you could see where the dog has got them, the white stripes that don’t necessarily look so white anymore, the mole skin I’ve wrapped them in around the toe to cover the wear and cracking, etc… However they match PERFECTLY and are still some of my favorites.  They were my go to shoe for standing on my feet all day at Brooks Brothers to trade shows to going out comfy heel… these are 24hr shoes!  (I will explain my shoe classification by hrs at a later date).  If these shoes could tell a story they represent a good portion of my life, so I will continue to wear them and maybe take them to the cobbler and see what he can do.

As for the rest of me, those shades are Marc Jacobs and POLARIZED!  I have bad eyes so polarized lenses are a MUST HAVE, actually they are for anyone, skip those $5 shades at the market and get yourself some protective shades.  Then there’s my statement necklace!    I think it looks kind of nautical with all the twisted chains and mixed metals and beads, like a twisted anchor chain with bling.  It’s of course, from mark. they do GREAT statement necklaces.  This one is called the Scene Stealer necklace and has been in and out of sale.  The earrings are the Fireball earrings that match the necklace PERFECTLY.   They will be in next month’s sale at my eBoutique so get them at the KILLER sale price.  I’ve worn mine with everything, they give just that small amount of needed sparkle especially when you’ve got a lot going on elsewhere.  And super light you won’t even notice you  have them on!  I wish you could see my makeup better but lots of sun and a point and shoot camera doesn’t always allow for that.  However, what goes perfectly with all these nautical outfits is the mark. On The Dot Pallet in Neutral.  It has 9 shades you can create a million different looks with and are the most flattering neutral shades I’ve ever come across.  If you get one mark. item in your life it should be this pallet, and it’s only $16!  Take that Naked Pallet!

Cocktail Rings and Watch

Cocktail Rings and Watch

Since I was wearing such a statement making necklace I kept it simple with my favorite silver watch from Burberry and doubled up on the cocktail rings!  The mixed metals and “stones” went well with the mixing going on in my necklace.  The red ring was gifted to me by the FAB miss nicole and I love it!  The 2 balls are also from mark. from last holiday season.  I like how my jewelry all plays together so nicely today, sometimes it just works.

How does day 4’s look hold up?  Too Parisian to be nautical?  Do you have a pair of beater shoes that keep on kicking and you’d like to have brand new once again?

Week O’ Nautical – Day 3 Boho Nautical

Next up on Week O’Nautical is another look that’s not your stereotypical nautical look but incorporates pieces in the right color family and functionally nautical.

Boho Nautical Look

Boho Nautical Look

Def on the casual side with the rouched t-shirt dress from Express, gifted to me by the fab sis-in-law for Christmas (I would say brother but you know Steph picked it out).  Love this style because it works year round with the 3/4 sleeve and t-shirt material.  Also killer because it works for so many occasions, dressed up for work or thrown over a bathing suit as a cover up… etc…  If you don’t own a t-shirt dress GET ONE!  It’s a wardrobe must have.

My other wardrobe must have is a silk scarf.  To go with the casual boho vibe I have it tied as a headband with the knot tied toward the side of my head with one end longer than the other so you can pull it forward to make more of an impact.  This scarf is from my days moonlighting at Brooks Brothers, they have the best silk scarfs!  This outfit could easily be transformed by tying the scarf as a belt low on the hips or right under the bust tied in the back and thick like a cummerbund, or again tied in the back but all the way open so it kinda looks like a tube top… the options are endless.  I always have a constant scarf inspiration from Rachel McAdams in Wedding Crashers when they go out on the boat and she has her scarf wrapped around her head.  I love that look but just not on me, maybe one day…

Sorry for the crappy picture, I had to screen cap a really poor quality you tube video.  I love her full nautical look here.  Still waiting to recreate it with an open stitch sweater and linen pants all in white… on a boat… one day, one day…

Boho Nautical Accessories

You know what’s been missing from my previous posts… shoes!  Given how much of a shoe-a-holic I am, kinda surprising.  Since we’re on the topic of wardrobe must haves, gold wedges are another one of my picks.  These ones are from Nine West and I’ve worn them to DEATH!  They go with EVERYTHING!  Can dress them up for a summer night out or run errands in them in shorts and a tank or take them to the beach/lake/pool for a little glam or when you know you’ll be transitioning from lounging.  Make sure they’re comfortable and easy to walk in, really that’s what a wedge is all about.  (PS. you like my nautical toes?  You know my nails will have their own post)

What really makes this look boho, is of course, my Bohemian Style Bag from mark.  I’ve been obsessed with this since it launched!  It has that uber cool style that everyone who is anyone has been carrying but its priced perfectly at $38.  Plus it holds EVERYTHING!  It’s great for commuting back and forth to work.  I’ve even used it as beach bag and it still looked cool.  The color surprisingly goes with more than you think, yes even black.

And let’s round things out with my super fun jewelry, the statement making hoops are mark. too, part of the heat wave duo set.  My go to instant summer ring is the mark. Pretty Stellar Ring and then of course we have the Borrowed From The Boys watch yet again.  This time I paired it with a white bangle from Express and a thin gold bangle from Brighton.

Boho’s not my typical style so this is my take on it…

Week O’ Nautical – Tuesday’s Look, Minty Nautical

Week O’Nautical sails on!  (pun intended haha)  Little note of fun, as I started to write this Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Summertime, the ultimate summer anthem,  just started playing on my iTunes.  Coincidence?  I think not… its fate!  And if you know me you know my obsession for Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.  I can relate pretty much anything in life to a Fresh Prince episode!  Aaaaanyways…. here’s Tuesday’s fresh ensemble:

The Necessary Accessories

The Necessary Accessories

This is not your typical Nautical look but what’s more sea-worthy than some sea green?  It’s no secret for my mint obsession this spring and these are few of the pieces I actually have to play out that obsession with.  I’m wearing a mint green t-shirt with a black and white stripped bandage skirt, super easy!  The t-shirt I got for $5 at Target, (this one) and my skirt is from Express awhile ago.  But stripped bandage skirts are a dime a dozen so easily re-created.  I love my Express one for the unexpected back detailing with the line down the back.  I’m also glad I got it a size larger so its not skin tight.  I highly recommend adding a black and white stripped skirt to your wardrobe.  I’ve worn mine to death with everything from a t-shirt, to a blazer, to a button down dress shirt to a sequin tank for my Christmas party last year.

For my hair decided to try out some beach waves.  This style I wore a lot in the early 2000’s when I lived in PA and the humidity was ridiculous and NO WAY was I going to blow dry.  Plus the humidity brought out the waves.  Now in super dry Nor Cal there’s no waves in that hair, BUT mark. launched a NEW haircare line and the Curl Commander Curl and Wave Defining Gel  help me achieve effortless beach waves!  All I did was use a decent amount on towel dried hair and scrunched.  I used a little hairspray on my bangs and DONE!  I was really shocked how this gel created some texture in my naturally straight hair AND was soft not crunchy at all!  I’m looking forward to playing more with this look and with addition of Curl to Curl Reactivate and Define Mist.  More hair posts to come!

For the rest of my look I have on some minty fresh baubles from the Banana Republic outlet and mark.  My Borrowed From the Boys watch is a staple.  The ring and earrings are also from mark. which have been in and out of sale!

My makeup look of course is all mark. too!  My mark. of the moment product is the Keep It Going Longwear Shadow and Liner in Naturalist.  It’s a gel formula in a teal and brown duo.  I’ve been sporting by lining half my lid with the teal shade followed by the outer half in the brown with an eyeliner brush.  I then drag the brown shade up into my crease to create definition.  Its WAY easier than it sounds and creates interest with the pop of color perfect for spring and summer.  On my lips is another of my mark. must haves, Lip Click Color Shine in Cupid.  This is not your typical lipstick!  It wears like a balm with some shine and SPF 15!  Added bonus the cap is magnetic so you don’t loose it in your bag o’makeup so no ruined lipstick!  Love this flattering pink shade in Cupid.

So what’s the verdict on day 2?  Nautical enough?  What’s your favorite nautical looks?
