This is a late post because long weekends tend to be for RR and not blog posts. And then short work weeks tend to be for catching up not blog posts. Either way, Labor Day marks my California-versary so I feel I need to mention it each year! I feel this outfit kinda represents a lot about it.
My seersucker skirt is from Brooks Brothers that I bought while I was moonlighting there. It’s extremely east coast, classic and preppy, which represents that part of me. I got it on mega deal because I worked at the Brooks Brothers Outlet and this was a retail piece, so that represents the champaign taste on a beer budget part of me. Which is why I was moonlighting to begin with, fresh out of college and moved across the country, I needed more $$. Lucky for me a lot of opportunity came from that Brooks Brothers gig, including my now husband. The skirt was too big for me when I bought it and at the time too long, I always planned to have it hemmed. Flash forward to now when I’ve gained some weight and learned that I actually like these longer pencil skirts on me, that too represents how I’ve grown here in CA.
Wearing it today on LDW feels a little full circle. I paired it with another clearance find from Express, this one shoulder eyelet top. CA style is much more relaxed so I can wear something that bares my shoulder to work and a Brooks Brothers skirt. So this top represents my CA side. I also went back to my favorite ivy covered dumpster at my old office building to take these pictures which absolutely was a huge part of my CA life.
Additionally I’m wearing a few of my favorite Avon accessories, my ring, scarf, earring and fav red lipid Coral Fever (see here), which all represent another big part of my CA life and all the opportunities it brought. Like not having to work retail hours but having a 2nd job for that champaign taste!
I may not be where I thought I’d be when I first moved here, but its been a ride for sure… and we’ll see where I go from here!
I love this post!! 💕
